James Watt Patents:
1: Flywheel Speed Amplifier. Flywheel turns at twice the speed so it can have a smaller radius and still offer the same storage energy.
2: Straight-Line Mechanism: the so called three link mechanism (actually a four link mechanism as the machine frame is always included). Watt was very pleased with this.
3: Parallel Motion Mechanism: this simply amplified the straightline mechanism using a pantograph type mechanism. Imagine your pencil drawing the striaght-line, then the panatagraph amplifies it.

Thank you... I seem to remember reading that now. Amazing to us, now, that someone patented the standard crank-shaft mechanism. However, with the wheel rotating twice as fast as the 'crank'. there are advantages with this design.

The drive for the piston is more vertical with the mechanism then without, the flywheel rotates at twice the speed...
