  • Had a steady coolant and engine oil leak. Until the egr coolant hose broke.
Changing all the gaskets on the egr assembly took me about 20h. I’m not a car mechanic so a professional could do it faster. Cleaning took me a long time.
First step is to let the coolant out. I disconnected the coolant line from the gearbox cooler. It’s under the car, next to the radiator.
Sorry I didn’t get the moment on tape when I took the assembly out.
Also did not film the removal/install of two brackets in the back of the egr assembly. One is between the assembly and the engine block. The other is between the exhaust tube and the egr.
A big mistake I made was a egr tube that goes to the intake manifold. When I installed the assembly I forgot to attach the egr tube to the assembly. Doing that on the car with egr assembly already inside the engine was a pain in the butt.
Also I removed right side fuel rail to get the assembly out.
I also installed new thermostat assembly. Not sure if you have to remove it to get the egr unit out.
You definitely HAVE to change the engine oil after this job. Removing the egr assembly will let a big amount of coolant in to the engine.
Overall not a easy job but doable. Local garage price quote was about 750-800€ only labor. Parts were about 600€. Nice save for a weekends job.

It is not necessary to remove the rear EGR pipe from the headers. The video is pretty much useless the author could have at least added data on the tightening torques and gasket numbers.
    Gaskets you need:
    LR023145 - 2x thermostat housing
    LR023022 - 1x EGR pipe
    LR022775 - 1x EGR pipe
    LR022777 - 2x EGR pipe
    LR023021 - 1x EGR pipe
    LR023072 - 1x EGR cooler
    LR023100 - 1x EGR housing
    LR050864 - 1x EGR housing
    LR022903 - 1x Oil cooler
I couldn't find the o-rings in the catalog, so I used o-rings from universal set.

How do you know whether the coolant leak is from the cooler gasket or not? What is the sign? I have a problem with coolant leak, still can't find where it leaked. It only leak out at the bottom at certain temperature, after idle running the car for a few minutes. I suspected it is the cooler gasket, because it's been opened before and are not properly reassembled.
By the way do you have the full video without time lapse version of this job that you could share? That would be very helpful, thanks!

Good video but really need as mentioned below the non time lapsed video even if split into 3 or 4 parts with comments like torque settings etc

I got a motor management light that is burning yellow. Failure code P245A: EGR recirculation cooler bypass circuit but no fluid is leaking. How many hours labour?

@@kristoffscuba5466 Yes. Im not a car mechanic. This is my personal car. I started friday after work and finished sunday evening. Took my time and cleaned everything carefully. Saved about 800€ in labour.

@@karbussisassFair enough. I just wouldn't want DIY mechanics to be put off by that number. The job is one that a home mechanic can tackle, and it should be do-able in an afternoon. You also don't need to remove the fuel rail, and it’s better to lift the complete oil cooler out in one piece and clean it on the bench. I have a car to do this job on shortly so I may film it. The main thing to watch out for is not snapping the coolant hose connector as its brittle and easy to do, it’s also on back order in the UK so the car will be stuck until a replacement is sourced.👍
