In these television shows, the high school kids who were the "studs" and "bombshells" were usually older because there were so few actors and actresses of actual high school age who were that developed and good looking. Basically, they were still growing.

Mike Lyons Actually I was just going to comment that he looks like the lead singer of the Peppermint Trolley Company. He was the guy who sang the Brady Bunch theme song. (first season)
