I have been super impressed with all the routing options of the Helix. Already have been loving the stereo fx loop, but discovered today how to route the various usb channels through my iPad with AUM and using the USB channels 3+4 to set up an iOS FX or Re-amp loop inside the Helix path. After all these years of owning the Helix i keep discovering new stuff. Such an impressive and flexible platform!
I just send the output to xlr for the guitar out and the input set to guitar. Then a separate line with no input with a block for return 3, and the output of that line set to 1/4" Then go to global settings and set the headphones to 1/4". I send the Behringer p16 headphone output to the return 3 jack of the Helix. So the mix going to the house is not affected. And I can hear myself and everybody else and give it more eq to my taste by adding an eq block after the return 3 block. I use a stereo adapter for both sides. Comes out stereo for me.
Thanks for this ‘tutorial’. I have a Helix LT and although it doesn’t have the AUX input, I managed to get around this by using Return1 as guitar in and then use the Guitar input for your feed from the board as this can be used for reamping.
Thanks. So this only works for a mono feed tho since Aux is a mono input, right? My monitor feed from FOH is stereo but the guitars from the feed are mono. That’s why I’m interested in using Helix for my monitor feed...so I can hear the Helix in stereo. Makes it much more “room like.”
You can do a stereo feed by using the Aux for one channel, and the MIC XLR input as the second channel. Then in Global Settings, configure AUX for the "USB 7 Re-Amp" channel setting, and configure MIC for the "USB 8 Re-Amp" channel setting. Then plug one side of the stereo feed into the AUX 1/4" input, and plug the other side of the stereo feed into the MIC XLR input. On the iPad, make sure you are configuring Audiobus for Stereo input from System Audio channels "7 and 8", and configure the output of the Audiobus chain for System Audio (Channels 1 and 2). This will produce a stereo feed all the way through to your headphones :)
I’m thinking of buying the helix lt but all I got is an iPad Air 2 I’ve got the camera kit cable as well , could I redister the helix from new still an still get the patches an stuff that you could normally do if it was going through a computer?
The HX Edit application, which is used to transfer Presets to and from the Helix, doesn't have an iOS app; so you can't use an iPad to load Presets. You would need a PC or a Mac to run HX Edit. You can just build your own though, directly on the Helix; no need for HX Edit if you do it that way.
stoopalini ahh thanks mate for explaining in such simple terms 👌I’ve asked many people on UA-cam an explained to them that I’m an old school guitarists an only jus getting back in to it again but the technology with what’s about now just throws me an I ain’t got a clue with all the daw , ir an all the other names an equipment that is used now days, at the moment I’m basically have made up a bit of a peddle board going through a I rig pro with the apple camera lead plugged in to a iPad air2 and am playing to backing tracks on UA-cam an doing bits on GarageBand, but I can’t quite get the sounds I’m looking for right I’m after Dave Gilmore tones , an I see on UA-cam with the helix lt they build the patches to perfection an that’s what I want to do , so if you can explain to me in simple terms because as I said I’m not that to clued up with the names an things , if you can just explain the best an simplest way to achieve an getting what I want out of the helix it’s only for bedroom use anyway , if it means me having to get a lap top then could you please advise me the basics an simplest way would be most appreciated 👍
@@peterwright5249 I think your best course of action is to join a Helix group, maybe on Facebook, and you can get a lot of guidance that way. There is just too much to know to achieve your goal, for me to walk you through it all in a UA-cam video comments section. Here is a very active group, where you could find this kind of help: facebook.com/groups/line6helixusergroup/ BTW: A PC is a Windows based computer, while a Mac is an Apple based computer :)
For that, I would recommend using something like Loopcommunity's PRIME app and an iPad ... connected through USB. Here' s a different video I made to demonstrate this, along with using a separate foot controller to trigger it. You could trigger it with just the Helix though, if you didn't want to use a separate foot controller. ua-cam.com/video/1DDc8gKvKVQ/v-deo.html

super helpful thank you!
That's smart man. Thanks!

How good is the latency?
Would use helix as an audio interface with Bias Fx :)
I didn't experience any noticeable latency, but you'd just have to give it a go and see.

An buy the way I don’t even know the difference from a pc an a mac 😫 as silly as that sounds in today’s world 😔

Any other apps besides Audiobus that work?
Sure, any app which can route USB multichannel audio should work.
What if I wanted to run a click track along with a backing track but only send the backing track to the front of the house?
For that, I would recommend using something like Loopcommunity's PRIME app and an iPad ... connected through USB.
