I still have the acoustic Fender copy folk acoustic I bought from Ian I used in Dumfries Big Band Monties Bar 74 to 78 -I taught fiddle classical in the Galloway region in schools -
Mon nights -Ok on fiddle solos like Close to You/Misty but midnight mugging up guitar solos "string of pearls" Great guy Ian -Got me a solo fiddle Talent radio show in 76 at BBC radio Mussleborough. Thelads kept my guitaar seat for me whilst on teacher exchange to Ca 76/77
I led the Border Strathspey Soc to 2nd prize at the Mod in Brora 75 ish -sponsored by Glen Morangie - Got photos of the magnum prize bottle and the big band in Theatre Royal-There was a sound tape made of that gig somewhere -Also photos of the band and prize .
Also a colour tape made of a Border TV prog of the society fiddling in kilts playing in a
Stately home nearby? 1/2 way up a staircase-The lab steward of Moffat academy did it for me but I moved S in 78 and forgot. Brenda Davies -[of N Wales who was ]head of Glentrool pmy recommended me for the job in 72 before I went to train at Jordan Hill
I shared a mansion Murraythwaite [ nr Annan and by the lead sax from Dalton ]with another teacher -a clarinet lad fresh out of the Guards Band -A sound like smooth liquid nectar!
I led the Dumfries Phil with another fiddle teacher - great ex SA lad Ray Clark.
Happy days-Was chased up a tree by a pack of big black otter hounds when I crossed the scent
whilst working on my 7 iron - cross country - one day. -Lost the ball though .
