As the years have gone by I don't have the negative feelings about Imola anymore. In fact it's great to see Senna giving it his all around this track in happier times. I not only miss Senna, I miss the whole era.
Man everyone talks about how they missed out senna Schumacher, I'm more pissed we didn't see Giles villenueve vs senna Giles went in 82 senna came in 84..... Wow Giles vs senna that would have been an absolute war
If Giles had lived it would have been Giles vs. Prost before it would have been Giles vs. Senna. And Giles would have been 10 years older than Senna when Senna entered F1; I can't see a rivalry happening there.
1984 had probably the most stacked driver lineup in F1 history. Legends like Senna, Prost, Lauda, Mansell, Piquet. Then throw in guys like Rosberg, Berger, Bellof, Patrese, Arnoux, Alboreto, Boutsen, Brundle. Imagine adding Villenueve to that group!
@Bob Clo No real argument here - I was just specifically addressing the idea that there might have been some Villeneuve-Senna rivalry had Gilles lived.

I remember playing Grand Prix 2 for hours and hours on end in the early to mid 90's and this is the version of the track I always knew and loved. If only safety had of kept up with the speed of the cars

Ayrton Senna was indeed the brilliant Brazillian. He was way beyond the rest of the other racing drivers in his approach to F1 racing and that is exactly why he was the greatest of all times in the history of Formula 1. I would've loved to see him in the Mercedes AMG Petronas alongside Lewis Hamilton during qualifying at Imola now, because my personal opinion is, that Ayrton would've beaten even the pole time of Valterri Bottas, which was set at 1:13:608 this year. Ayrton's sheer superiority and skill would've promoted him to pole position even faster than Valterri Bottas.
Early eighties to the early nineties was a golden era for f1 racing Prost,Senna and Mansel driving brilliantly with many others just behind them. Big leaps forward with technology, Honda engines and much better safety record . Murray Walker and James hunt were also a brilliant commentary duo, Murray with unfiltered enthusiasm and James with an unfiltered laid back short to the point brutally honest commentary style backed up by first hand experience.
Well, technically he may have raced for Benetton but before it was named that, just depends on which angle you look at it from. Since before Benetton, there was Toleman back when Senna started in '84 and around '86 they had been bought out to create the Benetton chassis you have seen in 86+ up until the 00's. But yeah it would've been cool to see him race for Ferrari as I heard on the 27th of April he met with Ferrari management and was in talks of leaving Williams for them. But he died before he could get that figured out.
@@sumitsinha21483 Not only 84 Monaco, his McLaren of '93 was not exactly the epitome of super performance, what he did with it in the Donington Park on 11 April 1993 will always be regarded as one of the finest races ever, fourth on the grid, first at the end of the first lap, passed previous and future world champions as if he was taking candy from kids...in the wet....a display of mastery. Ostihpem you reckon Senna's 1993 McLaren was not an underperforming car? Was Prost driving an underperforming Williams that day in Donington Park?
@@ostihpem Senna never had to use an underperforming car in his prime? The McLaren of 1993 that Senna used at Donington Park was not an underperforming car? The 1993 Williams of Prost was an underperforming car? I always had great respect and admiration for Prost's smooth style but when the conditions were less than perfect then Senna was the man to beat...like Donington Park, Monaco, Brazil and a couple of other races showed us...when Senna was hell bent on winning a race it gave one the chills...

Mclaren allways looked more solid, driveable, than that 94 Williams, particularly in fast corners, didn't cause his crash though, steering wheel failure
Benneton and Ferrari have never been convicted. Right. Their rap sheets are miles long, especially Bennetton's in 1994, and though I love Ferrari, for decades they have played politics to get the upper hand or save their own arse from some sort of prosecution, or force it on someone else, especially when "The Man" was in charge. All teams are guilty of this to one degree or another, but Ferrari has mastered it. Moreover, we're arguing over F1 teams. There's no need to get personal about it.
I always got sick of the commentators not understanding sennas philosophy on how to extract the most out of the car. " Oh his previous run was ragged" Of course it was...its intentional you fool!! Its the only way to find the limit on every corner. This is why Senna was a qualifying god. Agressively perfect and always exhilarating to watch.
It's a great track that most people blame because of his death I mean blame the cars that were fast but slippery Blame the FIA for letting they race after Ratzenberger's Death
Just because ferrari and benetton were never convicted does not account for the cheating they could have been doing behind the scenes. Conviction is not always the be all and end all of truth.
Il più grande errore della vita sportiva di Senna fu andare alla William, fame di vittorie ? O fame di essere sempre il migliore ? Comunque per me rimane in assoluto il migliore pilota al mondo .
spieler440 Well sure he had a mechanical failure but there was insufficient runoff space to slow the car down. For such a high speed turn, they needed to increase the space between track and wall. Actually I saw that Senna and Berger (or Hill?) looked at it, but there was a stream running behind Tamburello that interfered with that kind of track modification. Of course, it's much more boring now, but that is the price you pay. 😕
Not exactly: the root cause for the accident was a steering failure. What caused his death was a massive head trauma due to a suspension part, that hit the helmet's visor.
No matter the years, it is always great to watch Senna.
The Michelangelo of F1!
I get goosebumps when I see him entering Tamburello
