In this video I show you 10 of the best speaking activities for the ESL classroom. The 10 activities are designed for all ages, from kids to teens and even adults.
When we ask our students what skill they'd like to improve they almost always say, speaking. Not reading. Not listening and not writing. Luckily, students love doing speaking activities in class and over the last 12 years I've designed a lot. In this video, I have put together 10 that have worked the best during my time as an English Teacher.
These tasks are not designed for any level in particular so you can adapt them depending on whether you're working with beginner or advanced learners.

I loved this video, thanks a lot, very clear and funny. And sweet! And straight to the point! Thanks xxx
Really great and simple ideas to get students speaking. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback Niall! 😉
Lots of great ideas! My favourites are the ones that get students out of their seats, moving around the classroom and talking to their classmates. Basically, student-centred to the max.
It's all about the student centered approach!!!
Awesome... I like the way you teach ng the class really... I will try.
Helpful video, thanks for putting it together. Loved the clock montage :)
Glad you liked it! Let me know which speaking activity works for you. 😀🙇

Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for such interesting activities with great examples. I was confused what should I suggest for my students, but now I'm so motivated and excited. Also thank you for being so positive
Wonderful!
thank you!
I’ve recently discovered your channel. This is genius! So helpful. This is the most difficult task for my students. However, would you recommend using dictionaries with those students who don’t know much vocabulary? Regards from Écija, Seville,
.
I wouldn't use dictionaries myself with low level learners. You as the teacher need to decide what vocabulary they need to get by at the beginning. Focus on high-frequency words. Once they are at a higher level then you can start widening their range.
loved it. Thanks :)
You're welcome 😊 Any particular speaking activity you preferred?
Wonderful ideas! I like your background music. It gives.the video a more sophisticated atmosphere.
Glad you like it!
Man you had me rolling I loved this video🤣. This video also gave me some great ideas that I'm going to incorporate into my next lesson so thank you.
What an awesome comment. So happy you're going to use it in your class, let me know which activity you decide to use.
Hi Charlie. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you. I'm also from Bath and a Director of Studies... but I live in Italy.
Wow, snap! Whereabouts in Italy are you working?
@@CharliesLessons Viterbo, in Lazio, about an hour's drive from Rome.
I liked your activities. All of them are clear and understandable to get students to speak.

It is strange to practise by yourself but believe me, that's how I learned!
It's definitely worth a try!
So do i
We will do it me and my hananooo😊
Thank you a lot for the wide range of spoken activities, excellent ❤
Most welcome 😊
@@CharliesLessons wow, thank you for reply, appreciate 🙏🤗
Thank you I like this vedios
So nice of you to say!
Speaking is by far the most difficult to learn. As a native speaker, our advantage lies in speaking so that is the only thing I teach. There's more to it than most would think. For example, you've got to be knowledgeable on enough topics to talk about more than just that surface level stuff that you demonstrated in the mirror lol.
Obviously the mirror was just a joke but you're right, to be able to speak you must also have something to say! And you can't speak on much at all if you're not knowledgeable enough in general.
@@CharliesLessons yup! Many of my students seek to improve their English by focusing on pronunciation and vocab. After a handful of lessons, they usually tell me that the interesting topics that we discuss really helps them "unlock" their potential
Thanks
Welcome
Hello Charli, thx for your fantastic video. How can we work on our speaking in English?
Daily Conversations: Engage in regular conversations with native speakers or language exchange partners to practice and improve fluency.
Listen Actively: Regularly listen to English podcasts, news, or audiobooks to expose yourself to different accents, vocabulary, and speech patterns.
Mimic Pronunciation: Repeat sentences or passages from English speakers to work on pronunciation and intonation.
Utilize Language Apps: Leverage language-learning apps that provide speaking exercises and feedback to enhance your oral skills.
Record Yourself: Record and review your spoken English to identify areas for improvement and track progress over time.
Join Discussion Groups: Participate in online forums or discussion groups where you can share opinions and ideas in English, gaining valuable speaking practice.
Watch English Films/TV Shows: Pay attention to the dialogue, mimic expressions, and immerse yourself in the language to improve comprehension and conversational skills.
Loving UA-cam
Me too!
This is helpful for students who already know how to read and speak in English. What about students just entering the country who do not know how to read or speak any English at all?
I am planning a speaking activities video for beginners.
❤❤
I think listening i the most difficult to master not just for learners but for everyone....they hear but not listen1
Thanks for the video. It could be better if you speak more loudly.
Will do
I love dancing.

Hahahah when he gave some time to the poor watches who can’t smile 😂
Light a candle for all those clocks out there....😭😭
I could not understand activity number three. Can you make a separate video for that?
The name of the game is Taboo. I'm sure you can find some info elsewhere that's clearer.
Um do you know how much levels there are for low people could you please respond thank you. 😊😀
Do you mean what are the low levels of English?
Am teaching my student how to speak English but I have find out that it's still a long process .what other tactics can I use to help her
Make sure you give the student regular practice. You must be patient.
i love dancing
Yes this is the false sentence!
Pineapple on pizza got me gagging! LOOOL
Do you put pineapple on your pizza??
@@CharliesLessons hell no! Talking about death penalty in a class full of sleepy teens sounds way more appealing than pineapple on pizza 😅
The ideas are brilliant but the music is annoying
Thanks for the feedback. My videos since then don't have music.
I didn’t even notice the music until I read this comment 🤦♀️ Now I’m fixating on it….I gotta stop going to the comment section 😂
Thank you. But could you please make your video louder, please
