The whole lottery logic for tanking teams definitely works for the teams on the bottom and prevents certain teams (76ers) from having a tank monopoly. However, it does not prevent teams in the middle of the pack from tanking, and incentivizes them with a decentish chance at getting a top pick. This is bad for the NBA because teams in the middle will see more value in losing than making a competitive playoff push. A lot of the bottom level teams aren’t even tanking either, they just SUCK so bad and actually need a top pick to revitalize their franchise. I.e. the bulls: they’re boned

The good thing about the nba is that there is a different hierarchy every five years or so which I find a breath of fresh air from an English football (soccer) fan where the top six has been the same since I can remember however the worst thing in sports is loosing on perpose especially for a fan so something must be done to stop that but I and no one else knows what

Not sure if you're aware, but your idea of equal lottery odds for every team was actually how the lottery used to work, but the NBA did away with it around the beginning of the Shaq/Penny era. I think staggered odds are still the way to go, but with more punishments during the season for intentionally tanking teams

Yes tanking is annoying to watch but not all teams can be good. Teams like Atlanta weren't intentionally taking but are still bad. With the new lottery system it puts them at more of a disadvantage to get better. If they don't get another good pick they continue to lose and then are more incentivised to tank to try and get that pick. I see what they are trying to do but when a team like the Lakers are trying to win and get the 4th pick over teams like the bulls and Hawks who arent taking just suck it's very unfair. They need to take less percentage from the lower teams and bump that up to the top picks. They should lower the percentage of the top team but maybe from 25% to maybe 18 or 19%.
