One of the highest mileage examples was from a Greek taxi driver named Gregorios Sachinidis. This man had a 1976 W115 Mercedes-Benz 240D with over 4,600,000 kilometres on its odometer. That almost 1.5 distance travelled from earth to moon.
Grew up and learned to drive on a 73 114 back in the late 70s. Such a wonderful driving experience... far more refined and capable than most other cars of the day. Later traded for an 81 123 5cyl diesel. Nice car, but nothing like the 114. I now have a 95 124 cabrio. Very nice and luxurious compared to the others, but the 114 is still my favorite.
@@KyleLiongCars Here in the USA, most people drove American cars in the 70s. Unless they were upgraded with auto trans, power steering, etc, they were very basic... with manual transmission, no power steering or brakes... cheap materials and uncomfortable seats. Japanese cars were basically tin cans... uncomfortable, poor handling, loud and small. Then there is the MB.... totally the opposite... very comfortable, wonderful ride, fantastic ergonomics, brakes and steering had no rivals. It was a night and day difference to drive a basic Ford, then drive a Mercedes 114. In recent years, Japanese and other car-makers have caught up to Mercedes. But for many years, it was the standard and no one could touch them.
That’s pretty interesting. I should start looking for an older American car so I could get the basis of where you’re coming from haha! Hope I get to review some of them too
@@KyleLiongCars Go to Cuba. They have gorgeous 50s classics. I was mostly referring to maybe the 60s or 70s American cars. GM cars drove the best. But the Fords and Chryslers were probably the most basic and felt the cheapest on the base models. If you drive one, you will definitely "feel" the difference between American and foreign cars and will see how the MB excelled way beyond the "competition" in those days. Have fun.
A friend I know has one. His is a 1971 model and it belonged to a retired United States Army officer who was stationed in Europe. It even has the oval Z licence plate.
The w114 trunk is deeper because its fuel tank is below the trunk (hence the fuel filler on the back!), and the w123 has the fuel tank actually inside the trunk (and the spare tire below the trunk). Well, the sedan & coupe that is!
Cool old car. Probably not a power house, but has to move out a lot faster than the 4 cylinder models. I bet its kinda fun to drive with the 4 speed and the large diameter steering wheel. I think these old cars were built to last. Thank you for your video
I think the rear headrests are an after market addition and may have been wrongly fitted. Should be on the backrest and not on the hat-rack. I’m restoring a w114 280E (facelift) and retrofitting rear-headrests. Not sure if I’m correct, and will continue my research. Please let me know if you can verify correct positioning. Thanks!
@@KyleLiongCars Your Benz and this one are my fave so far. I hope you could find a Benz Fintail and a Benz Ponton to review. In the 80s-90s, there were still some on the road. They were in bad shape, but they were still running.
@@KyleLiongCars Just curious, how was the aircon on this car? Is this the reason why the window is a little open or that is just covid safety protocol?
Sounds like it has a vacuum leak somewhere when it idles that rough. Perhaps it settles down when up to temperature. The carbs needs a tune I think, especially since you felt the need to pump the pedal to "help it start".
Actually saw this 114 at carousell a few months ago. That deep blue paint is quite rare, unlike most 115/114s here which came in German taxi Ivory. W114 is a beautifully designed car, although this one maybe in a less desirable conditions. So, it may affect the driving experience~ I m guessing.

2:25 how is it Japanese version with steering wheel on the left?!
Japan allows LHD cars. Decades back, a lot of the Mercedes Benzes in Japan were sold as LHD. To this day, most G63 AMGs in Japan are still LHD.
