Well done those who made this tribute, the Type 12s were excellent ships, mother of the Leanders. My father was TTL, he commanded Tenby, a sister to Yarmouth in 1962/3 and used to take me to sea with him in the school holidays (Dartmouth Sqn. F17) and of course was in it with all of you in the Falkland's conflict. A noble cause from which you all deserve the honours and everlasting memory of what you achieved.
Dad served on her during the Falklands war, wish she was still here so i'd get to see her but im proud of her for bringing him home. Thoughts are with all the families of whom didn't return from the conflict.
What was his name? My brother was with me at the time. He was also a sonar operator. We all would have lived in the same messdeck. 3P mess. @@Ogwizard69
Brought tears ....hard to believe ...40 yrs ... So many days of for all who had family members serving on HMS Yarmouth...Despite all they went through....came home safely! Thank God !
Great video. Loved the stirring music. Makes me proud to be British..!! I was on the Yarmouth in 1965 when she was 20th Frigate Squadron operating out of Londonderry.
I was one of four anti aircraft gunners. We each had two LMG's on a mount built by a Squadron member on the way to the Falklands. 11 Field Squadron, Royal Engineers. We defended the RFA Sir Bedivere. If it wasn't for the missile defence put up by HMS Yarmouth and her sisters the loses would have been catastrophic. Rapier batteries ashore also added to the defence of the fleet. On our ship the main defense was two 40mm bofors guns at the bow. We where positioned on the flight deck and outside of the mess deck hatches. Giving some sort of all round defense. Between us we were credited with shooting down a .iMirage but I don't know if that still stands. We had a glancing blow from a 1000lb "return to sender" bomb. Dropped by a Skyhawk. The "return to sender" is because these bombs were sold to Argentina along with the Canberra bombers to drop them. Some years before the war.
@thewyrelight No problem mate........I get loads of abuse written on my videos by the Argies, but always delete it as soon as I see it. These videos are tributes to you and all Royal Navy men............be proud.........always. You boys did a fantastic job.......no other Navy could have done it with the gear you boys had...fact.
My fist full commission ship in the RN, after Duchess went to Oz to replace the lost HMAS Voyager. Cod wars and lots of green stuff-a good ship even surviving a collision with Tiptoe. Very lonely on the forward diesel generators- all we were left with till we decided not to sink :) Derry Sqdn leader. Very proud service she did in the S.Atlantic too..Fine girl y'are !! The South African Navy had three Rothesay Class Frigates. SAS President Steyn, SAS President Kruger and SAS President Pretorius . Sadly SAS President Kruger sank in a a collision with the supply ship SAS Tafelberg. These British frigates served the South African Navy very well and kept the Russian navy on their toes.
my first ship was HMS Rothsey then HMS Lowestoft both joined at portland and so did 12 weeks work up ,with a break of a week CPO at Collingrad doing a kit muster of a Junior rate with kit muster of chinese laundry JREM/JWEMR best time of my life
Yarmouth certainly put a shift in during The Falklands Conflict. All the more reason to ask why Admiral Woodward seems to single it's Captain ( Tony Morton ) out for alot of criticism. Anyone elaborate?
I was the control OA on Yarmouth in 1965, I relieved the OA who was killed in the 4.5 turret. Poor devil was squashed. When the gun ran away in elevation. Ended up as Director Officer and TS maintainer as well. When we rammed the Tiptoe off Portland I could see all that went on astern. They were very lucky to get away with out being sunk! Good ship but not my best ,Tiger Timpson ex COA
My brother was on her for the Falklands conflict. I was at Rosyth with my family to welcome them home. He was a killick SA. I had left the navy just a few years before hand....
I was on Antrim during this tiny conflict. We were hit first attack in bomb alley. Had to leave overnight. But what I didn't realise these guys were still in a danger zone. I salute everyone of them. Heroes. My brother served on Crazy Y later.
HMS Sheffield and HMS Ardent were both hit by Exocet Missiles supplied by France has and later Sank, try searching for the films if you haven't done already but if you are playing games knowing what happened to them then you're a bit SAD

This ship was attacked the 1st of may 1982 along with the HMS Arrow and the HMS Sheffield. Sheffield was hit by 250 lbs bombs from Argentine Air Force planes. The three ships were south of Puerto Argentino attacking the airport with naval fire, when they were caught by surprise by three Dagger aircraft. This was the second time the british invaded and attacked the islands... 1833 and 1982. Shame on you!

Ex HMS LONDONDERRY man - nice vid
Until this I thought Plymouth was the oldest ship of the task force.
F 126 was apart from F 101, great ships, but I'm ex Plymouth, I would say that.
Flagship Hermes was oldest naval vessel in taskforce . Commissioned Nov 1959
