  • Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
In today's video, I'm super excited because I'm meeting up with my friend Annemieke Rodenburg in Rotterdam, one of my favorite cities in the world!
Annemieke is an illustrator, and sketcher, but she's also a creative powerhouse and entrepreneur. Recently, she returned from an epic three-month motorcycle adventure in the stunning landscapes of Scotland. Annemieke and I will catch up and we'll dive into her Scotland sketchbooks, and she's even going to pull a valuable tip from them, to share with us.
One of the things Annemieke did during her trip was visit the house where she was an artist in residence a couple of years back. She visited the house again, and asked the people living there now if it would be OK if she'd draw them. Then filled a page with their faces and stories.
And here's the tip she's sharing with all of us: Be brave! Don't hesitate to approach someone and ask if you can draw them. Make it clear that your sketch might not be a perfect likeness, setting no expectations. This way, you can fully enjoy the moment together, and they'll open up to share their stories with you.
You'll be surprised at how rarely people say no when you express your artistic intentions. So, let's embrace our creativity, be bold, and start capturing the beauty of people and their stories!

Really cool and unique challenge! Certainly something I could add to my sketching bucket list 😁. Thank you for the video around Rotterdam! My great-great-grandmother and her family immigrated to the USA aboard a steamship out of Rotterdam in the 1850s

    FABULOUS tip!
    Thank you!
If only I could get animal friends to sit still long enough for me to draw them 😁
Hope you visit more friends in future for their tips too! 💞

Animal friends are great to draw too! I don’t have any close by and so it’s a bit of a blind spot in my skills.

I might draw someone when sketching outside, but do it secretly lol
not becuase i'm afraid they might say no, its more about how much pressure I would be under to create a good portrait😆

I get that. But people know that it’s a drawing, and not a photo. Often, even when the drawing isn’t even flattering, they’ll be flattered that you want to draw them. Unless they are very vain

Rotterdam is definitely a city that I want to visit...along with Amsterdam. Fingers crossed, one day...
I think that it's always worth mustering up courage and jumping in...what can happen? Worst scenario is that they will say "no".

Rotterdam is really awesome and I hope you will visit. And yes, exactly - the worst scenario isn’t even that bad.

Hi Koosje, hope you are well.
I know you have a photography background and obviously have been editing video for a number of years now but I have not seen you pull together a video like this before. I really enjoyed your bits between the talking bits, have you considered a parallel channel were you give us walking tours or part of Amsterdam and other places? I think they would be very engaging.
Thank you both for this video on drawing people, I think a lot of is find it difficult.
    All the best.

Hey Stephen! Thanks for appreciating the way I put this video together. I have plenty of projects and ideas, but I’ll have to disappoint you that a channel like that is not one of them.

Yes, it’s an old recording from many years ago. His skills are much better now.
