In my honest opinion, out of all of the Alice in Wonderland movies and adaptations of the movie, this has always been my absolute favorite! I first watched this movie when my grandparents bought it for me from the Dollar General when I was little around 9 years old. I absolutely love it!!!
Interesting thing to notice about the Alice adaptations often having Alice run away from a problem and find confidence to face it along the way... It's a classic sort of fairy tale plot, one that's easy to grab and put on a story without a plot. Start at home with a problem, journey into the woods to find a solution, and return with the solution. Original Alice journeys into the woods and back again without any intention or ultimate lesson but it's easy and makes sense to us to give her one.
We got this movie as a DVD in a cereal box and it was perhaps the most-watched movie in our house. I like the tone - aimless but entertaining like a pleasant dream, without trying to turn a kids book into a dark & gritty psychedelic trip. And as pointless as some scenes feel, it really captured my imagination and made me think. Like the moral dilemma of the walrus and the carpenter: what's worse? Doing a lot of harm but feeling sorry, or doing a little harm with no remorse? Iconic all around.
Take notes Disney. This is how you make a good film. No reboots. No live action remakes. Not that this movie is good. It's strange but that's how Wonderland is supposed to be. Anyway stop remaking movies. Please.
Alice is just generally hard to translate to film because it ends up coming off so random. It’s a series of vignettes and you feel like you could just interchange any segment with another and it wouldn’t matter. The other problem is, it’s cool to have a weird character who is absent minded and does things that make no sense, but an entire film of characters like that gets really old really fast. This is why the Disney movie works so well, because it’s for kids and kids don’t care about plot or if anything makes any sense. I really like the hallmark version for its visuals, but the star power is there because without it, no adult could sit through the overbearing onslaught of whimsical nonsense. It just gets frustrating because it feels like things happen just to happen.
"Were-Mouse"... lol, good one ;) I've actually seen this one, a long, LONG time ago... probably when it was new. The only memory I have of it is Whoopi as the Cheshire Cat - a very vague memory.
This one's a favourite of mine. Not crazy about the framing device/"believe in yourself" plot, but the look of the film is great and I love the performances. It also takes its time with the story so we get a LOT of both Alice and Through the Looking Glass.
I'm luck to see this twice and lucky enough to find it at a used book store. I do enjoy it greatly. ^^ Not sure if you have seen it. But would you kindly check out the Royal ballet of Alice in Wonderland? It's great as well. ^^
That's next on my list. I've already written the script; in fact, I've already recorded my voice. The problem is that, due to the current global situation, my schedule has been thrown out of whack, and I haven't been able to find time to work on the video properly, hence why it's been so long since the last one.
@@jjhatter3420 Which is next? The '82 version? It amazes me how pretty Kate is because I don't see her that way in real life. That always strikes me as a fancy play
I LOVE This Version. It’s Beautiful And Odd. And I Love That It’s Long! It’s My Absolute Favorite Version, Honestly.

I grew up on this back then along with the animated Disney classic! plus Martin Short was a good choice to play as the Mad Hatter!

I think you're the most underrated youtuber who needs more attention
I agree!
I enjoyed this so much! The one I grew up with watching and honestly my absolute favorite!
Have you seen the 1998 version/adaptation with Ian Holm as White Knight and Kate Beckinsale as Alice?

I got a DVD of this movie in a cereal box in 2004 😂 I'm very lucky but it's on amazon if you want to get it :)
This film terrified me
I love this movie
Yep, I remember seeing the film on the Colgate Saturday Feature on TV2, in 2001, 2 years after 1999
Tina Majorino (I think she pronounces the first syllable of her last name MAJOR, as in the military rank)
I give the 1999 version of Alice in wonderland a 7/210 as well. It's not perfect but it's a good film to watch.
Just start watching. Sorry, after 30 min i stop it🤦♂️🤮

It part of the courtroom scene.
I grew up with the 1985 version and the 1982 play version with Kate Burton

Your mic is really mad, i can barely hear you.
@@Animeloversonicfan I don't think it's my mic so much as my editing. I've had that complaint before, and I'm trying to fix that issue.
This is my favourite version of this story but I was never happy with the casting for Alice.
