  • Every year in the USA alone, 11.5 billion pounds of surplus fruits and vegetables from home and community gardens, ends up as food waste; simply because of a larger than expected harvest. The excess produce grown is just too much for the gardener to keep or give away and is discarded. This staggering amount of waste could have fed 28 million hungry people. To avoid garden food waste...why not simply donate your surplus produce?
AmpleHarvest.org is a nationwide non-profit that uses technology to educate and enable the estimated 61 million Americans who grow food in home and community gardens, to easily donate their surplus produce to one of 8,064 registered local food pantries spread across all 50 states. These food pantries help nourish the one out of six Americans who are food insecure, (including a quarter of all kids under six) and rely on these pantries.
If you are a gardener or food pantry in the USA, simply go to AmpleHarvest.org and use their online platform. It’s free and easy to use. #vegetablegardens #foodwaste #communitygardens

Our Vision: Imagine a world where perfectly healthy, and edible plant-based foods are no longer wasted. Our vision is to ensure that food is available for all to eat, while creating a more sustainable planet to live in. Just having something to eat is not enough. Starvation and malnourishment are not only the result of a lack of food; they can also be the result of eating foods that don’t supply the body with the diverse nutrients it needs to stay healthy and functioning.
Almost half of the food produced in the world goes to waste, the majority of this wasted food, well over 80% is also the most nutrient-rich; plant-based food. So we cannot end world hunger without first addressing the loss and waste of plant-based foods.
