10:56 POV you're Shelly's kid
Indeed, he is.
That was fun! Enjoyed your son’s POV! 🥰
Yay! Thank you!
He's adorable
I'm not really into non-fiction books but I had to read The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down for my medical ethics class a couple of years ago and I thought it was interesting. I think it's more so meant to be thought provoking rather than making a statement that things should be done a certain way. I also had to read Spillover by David Quammen which was about the real stories of the researchers who investigated how diseases like the Ebola and Hendra viruses originated by being passed to humans from animals. I think I enjoyed that book a bit more because it had a bit of a mystery aspect baked in, so it felt more compelling. Nice book haul, I hope you enjoy them!
Oh, thank you for this! :)
This was a good format for a video. You executed it very well.
My last book purchase was also a Steve Donoghue recommendation. He described it during a recent bookshelf tour of his kitchen’s paperback shelves. It’s a thriller called _Survivor_ by Gregg Hurwitz, and it starts with the protagonist about to jump off a high ledge when he discovers a crime in progress on the other side of the window, so he intervenes. That outrageous premise made me want to buy the book.
I think I added Survivor to my list as well because of Steve. His library tours are dangerous.
My most exciting acquisition was actually a little free library find. I found a 50th anniversary pictorial history of the 1939 Wizard of Oz. It's so cool I found it as I'm an Oz freak!
What a lovely acquisition!
Oh wonderful! In addition to Fadiman, Welty is one of my very favorite authors. I hope you will enjoy them both.
Thank you, Hannah.
The game of kings by Dorothy Dunnett is the first of the Lymond chronicles. Another good one is King Hereafter, her stand alone about MacBeth. Her other series is the Niccolo series.
I'm itching to read Dunnett's work. Hopefully I'll get a book of hers in by the end of summer.
“Taking care of you!!” 🥹
So sweet, right?
In general, I'm not a short story fan. But I do love Eudora Welty! (And Ray Bradbury 🙂). Half Drowned King sounds interesting. Glad you are able to go to some used bookstores. Enjoy your reads!!
Thank you, BJ!!
Fun video. Loved the dress, shoes and jewelry. Your camera man did an outstanding job (so sweet)!
I can't wait to hear your reviews on your newest purchases, when you can get to them.
Awe! Thank you!!!!
. Just wanted to share another picture book I just read. My Heart by Corinna Luyken, she is also the illustrator. I really loved the story and pictures.
Hey, since you are dipping your toes in manga, might I suggest you to check out in the future the Japanese light novel "Ascendance of a Bookworm"? I think it would bridge the gap nicely between book & manga content on your channel. It's a slice-of-life, fantasy, character-focused story with slow and very careful world building. It's also not a "shonen" and by a female author, in case you wanted a change of style from your other manga content like one piece (but it is surprisingly similar to it in other aspects). You can find the English localization by J-Novel (both digital and physical). Nice book haul, btw!
Thank you for this recommendation!
Half Drowned King looks intriguing, taking your own cameraman to the book store....cool...hope he liked his DogMan book.
Thank you!!!!
That particular title from Melanie Benjamin did not work for me. I believe I DNFd it. However, I have really enjoyed some of her earlier titles. The Aviator's Wife and Alice I Have Been were both terrific.
Oh! Thank you!
Hey Shelly I love your content I found you through your one piece videos and now I watch it all haha. I’ve been thinking about starting a UA-cam channel and I’m not sure how to start, especially video editing. What’s your set up like? What do you film and edit with?
Thank you! I would start with your smart phone camera to see if you like it and edit on your phone as well. I use a Canon t7i and edited with iMovie for ages.
Will Laotian help?? ❤
Yes! Thank you!!
I have yet to read a Jonathan Franzen book. Not terribly interested so far...
Same, girl. Same.
