@@YOSSARIAN313no she didn’t. This is just a false information she never was a ruler of underworld, before hades in more older greek religion poseidon was the ruler of underworld Persephone was never exist before hellenic and despoina or any other goddess in that religion which she seems to be persephone’ pre form is 1)only a theory and we can’t be sure of it and 2)a whole different character of persephone in hellenic. Hades giving persephone the equal rule was like a revolutionary act on his time and a great taboo.
I didn’t realize until my third hearing that Hades was trying to recreate the heat of summer and the light of the sun. Things he associates with what Persephone loves when she goes topside. So that she wouldn’t want to leave anymore.
But unfortunately a fake summer won’t keep her thats why shes annoyed. Hes trying to hard to keep her instead of just loving her like he used to. Shes a free spirit and doesn’t want/need to be held down

True but let’s also not minimize Eurydice’s suffering here. She probably didn’t know that this was how it was going to be when she said he should finish it. I mean are you telling me he couldn’t have pulled himself out of it once or twice to check on Eurydice?
Let's remember that the things Hades created for Persephone are the things that normally don't exist in the underworld, heat and light. He created those so she would be more comfortable and feel more at home.
ironically tho, persephone isnt disturbed by the underworld necessarily bc its cold and dark. shes disturbed bc Hades has perverted the natural cold and darkness, as seen when she says "it aint right and it aint natural." Since she is a nature goddess, it makes sense that she would understand and even appreciate the natural dark and cold of winter/fall/hades. Hades has misread her entire character to satisfy his own anger at the fact that persephone has her own life/desires and has to "fly away", unlike his posessions
It seems to be more like he’s insecure about her preferring the surface to the Underworld, so he brings aspects of the surface down underground. Unfortunately, he seems to have forgotten that he married the literal goddess of spring, and Persephone was not having his industrial kingdom.
@@midnight_rose2337an interesting bit about that is that in older stories, Persephone isn’t a pure Spring goddess, but an underworld one. Chthonic Persephone was the queen of the underworld also with ties to Demeter and Poseidon. Makes me wonder if Hades loves that part of her. Maybe that’s even how they met.
He created these things out of the fear she would leave him. He created it all under the misguided belief that it was what made her love the natural world. He created an entire railroad line stretching from the natural world to the Underworld. He, quite literally, paved the road to Hell with good intentions.
I love how you capture the passive aggressiveness in Hades responses to Persephone. So many folks act as if Hades is faultless and simply blinded by love, but there's a defensiveness in his voice in this song.
Honestly I always thought this version was the stronger one, the lyrics just tended to be a lot harder hitting, but for some reason everyone prefers the other one.
Hey would you mind if I used this animatic in a Hadestown video essay I'm working on? I'll credit you within the video and put a link to this video in the description!
a man shows his disapproving wife his hobbies, while another tries to write a song while his wife dies and his mentor is trying to get him to be aware of everything
Persephone: Loves nature, Hades found her in a garden, all about natural and ethical stuff Hades: So.. youd like it if i were to build you an electric city and scam people out of their souls...right? Persephone: Ew no Hades: y not though, i already made it
I see it more as Hades trying to bring summer to Hadestown to please Persephone, since as she points out in her lyrics, her time in Hadestown is the coldest and darkest time of the year. So Hades tried to make Hadestown warm and bright for her so that she wouldn't leave come summertime since it would already be "summer" down in Hadestown. Of course, since he didnt talk to her about it and they have a lack of proper communication both ways, everything goes wrong.
yeah he was trying to make it warm and bright so it was more like summer on the surface but she didn't like it because it was artificial, and because he did it without asking her. If she's going to be spending six months out of every single year of her immortal life down here, she at least wants an opinion on how it looks and functions.
I love that detail too. I’ve always interpreted Orpheus ignoring Eurydice as less an act of self-absorption and selfishness but rather him acting on a divine compulsion that he can’t ignore. He’s the son of a Muse after all (the literal manifestations of creation and dedication to the arts). It’s literally in his nature to become obsessed by the divine melodies running through his head. This particular melody was of extreme importance as well (the balance of nature itself was on the line), so I think that adds to the theory that he literally cannot stop playing until he completes it. The moment he’s free of his trance, he goes to find Eurydice, presumably to tell her first of his accomplishment and check on her. Needless to say, I’m an Orpheus apologist, so I choose to believe this theory rather than the “Orpheus was an immature, self-obsessed dick who ignored his desperate wife so he could finish his mixtape” theory lol.
Hades makes me think of a husband who converted the den into a gaming room while his wife was on vacation. Then she gets back, and is furious, and he's like, "Nah, baby, I did this for YOU!"
Persephone: For me huh? Why is this thing made for us filled with only stuff you like? Hades: You don’t like giant road hazardous hummers? Persephone: NO!
You can tell that Hades and Persephone still love each other but Persephone is frustrated because Hades wasn't the same man he was when they first met, and he tries to "provide" her with the kinds of things she wants like light and heat even though he knows it isn't what she truly wants. And Orpheus thinks he is still there for Eurydice but he has been so deep and into the music that he isn't even able to hear her anymore.
How dare you make Hades that hot? Excuse me? My rights have been violated. Anyway, wonderful animatic. I think you captured everyone and their emotions throughout the song perfectly!

This is so good holy shit!! the little touches! the constant momentum! It's clear this was made with skill, attention, and passion!!
I love many things in this, but the direction really takes the cake. Like, I honestly believe this could be a great basis for an actual fully animated adaptation of Hadestown.
Thank you!! Hadestown's simplicity and designs fit the animation medium perfectly I demand there to be an adaptation
So fascinating how they used the hair in the wind as a way to transition/switch characters
This is mind blowing! And your designs are amazing💖💖🥺
You did an amazing job with the characters i love the lighting for the fire scene and i love Persephone's facial expression
