  • Maryann Rolle lost $50k of her savings catering for the disastrous luxury Fyre Festival before the infamous event ended in chaos, leaving her and the rest of the island unpaid.
People witnessed her plight on a documentary about Fyre, and she suddenly made a fortune on GoFundMe. VICE went to the Bahamas to discover what she’s going to do with the money and how she almost got scammed again.
    Check out Maryann's GoFundMe: uk.gofundme.com/exuma-point-f...

Katya Kostyuk Schmidt Kendall Jenner didn’t screw this woman over and Kendall wasn’t responsible for what happened to her. Kendall was paid for a photo shoot, that’s it. If Macy’s CEO steals money from someone, do you blame the models in the Macy’s catalogs? No.
Billy McFarland is the one responsible. He promised to pay her and didn’t. Putting the blame on Kendall takes away the responsibility from Billy. He is the main focus and the reason for everything that happened

Catherine Vaz I’m not mad but everyone’s pointing fingers instead of actually putting the blame on the person responsible. Everyone brings up the kardashians in every scenario, in every conversation, making them more and more famous. Comments like this are taking away from the crisis that actually happened. We won’t know whether she donated money or not, so it’s pointless to talk about. What should be talked about is what we can do right now and in the future to prevent this from happening again. This isn’t Kendall’s story, this is *Maryann’s* story. Start saying her name more. Give Maryann Rolle as much attention as y’all give the kardashians. I’m sick of hearing about the kardashians in issues that don’t involve them. And then people wonder why that family is so famous. Y’all keep bringing up her name in everything

SHE DOES NOT HAVE A "THICK" BAHAMIAN ACCENT. SHE IS A BIG HEART WHO THOUGHT OF MONEY AS A TOOL FOR BRINGING PPL TOGETHER. GIVING BACK THAT AMT OF MONEY IS VERY NOBLE! TOTALLY PROUD AND HAPPY FOR HER BCZ THE NEGATIVE WAS TURNED INTO A WORLD CLASS POSITIVE!!!

Sad to say but this is just human nature for some people and has been happening for thousands of years. Even in the bible there are stories that warn of swindlers and material-driven people.
Its good to know that there are others that keep their morals though. Thank you.

"A little is a lot if you give it from the heart"
As much as I don't want to buzzkill this great line I couldn't get over the fact that as nice as it sounds giving it from the heart won't make a little into a lot.
"A little is a lot if we all give a little" drives home the sad reality we'd rather ignore. There's people who can afford to help a substantial number of people, there's people who can't afford to help others but don't need help themselves to live an acceptable life, there's people who need help.
Then of course you have a very small group of people who are busy playing a game of who's the richest man in the world! Unfortunately for us they need to use money as a bar amongst eachother to see who's managed to capture a larger percentage of the world's currency.
God forbid they stopped their game and thousands of people's lifetimes worth of money saw the light of day.
    Massive bummer out.

Personally I wouldn’t have felt great cashing that check knowing people who did hard labor didn’t receive any compensation.

I went to her beach side resort for lunch 1 year before fyre festival. Also I can’t believe I got on a sailboat at emerald bay resort right nearby where the “fema tents went up” to deliver the boat up the east coast to Maine. I remember the boat owner stored his boat there on the marina and his outboard motor was gone so we reported it stolen to the authorities but nothing came of that
