Austin put in great heel performances during '01, the problem was that on a business front, the wider audience wanted their anti-hero.

Austin sucking up to McMahon destroyed the Attitude Era and was the end of my time as a fan.

It’s not that it was bad, it just felt wrong.
When Austin came out on Raw to stun the Alliance it felt like a course correction and a huge explosion of joy and relief that the heel run was over. When he turned heel again at invasion I was so disappointed and it was a bit of a whimper for me.
In the long run it had a negative impact on him overall as well since when he turned face again after Survivor Series, he had no momentum and in truth he never really recovered from it while a full time performer.
I dare say that if he’d remained a face all the way through 2001 that he’d have been fully confident and on a roll and gone on to face Hogan at X8.

I think honestly of the people on the team Jericho should have turned(if you had to do the heel turn) He was a heel a few months later and won the title) Big show wasn't on the team but would have made sense(yes Austin was in WCW too but Jericho and Show and the Radicalz were there more recently.

Guys like Booker T and DDP could have made waves... But they had their nuts cut off.
The Rock absolutely Billy Gunned Booker on the mic leading up to Summerslam, it took a while to recover from that.
Undertaker did everything to bury DDP short of having a buried alive match and literally burying him. His wife beat him with the arms crossed pin in a match for god's sake.

Vince stooges like Bruce, Jerry Brisco and Jim Ross love burying WCW to this day 😆

It’s okay to take your ⚽️’s out of Vince’s pocket and say this angle sucked, Bruce. Including the leadership of Austin for the opposition.

molly holly was the whole package. the woman next door who looked great. all the bad mouthing from the announcers unexpectedly turned her into a babyface although she was supposed to be heel.

We hoped the WCW guys would be accepted and seen as a threat. And to do do that, we made them look as weak and silly as possible and they needed a top WWF guy to bail them out. I don't know why it didn't work.
Bruce is such a 🤡 and has so much Vince 💩 on his 👃🏻.

yeah, seriously at the end of the day, its how you present them. Yeah Lance storm may not be a huge name but if you present him as a equal or Booker t not being clown on by the The Rock or DDP not doing a stupid stalker gimmick. If they were presented as more of a threat, it would have worked. And just think we got Flair, the Nwo, mysterio Jr, Steiner and Goldberg not long after that. If they booked it better and let it build and when Bischoff comes in it truly explodes, I also honestly would have brought Bagwell in for the NWO angle, he could have been their patsy for a bit or something make him earn his stripes. It could have worked well. Same with ECW when that happened and ECW joined the invasion it was this is awesome. I three way war and then they merged and Stephanie was the owner. Uggh. I could have dealt with Shane for a bit until Bischoff got there. So many miss steps I am not saying oh well Mark Jindrak should be at Austin for the belt but its all about presentation. Some of those guys had potential, some didn't. But agreed Bruce is such a clown.

@@turboturkey 👍🏻 Couldn't agree more. Reason NWO worked was because Hall and Nash were presented as dangerous. They powerbombed Bischoff after being there for a few weeks. And them fighting WCW guys was presented as a serious battle for the future of the company. People believed these guys meant business and they can be a big problem for everyone. And if took a while before they lost any matches and it was seen as a big deal when they did.
If they debuted and 2 weeks later Flair or Sting clowned on them in a promo, then they got beat up and thrown out of the building, fans wouldn't take them seriously anymore. They wouldn't seem like a threat to the WCW guys or seen as top guys.
All Vince had to do was follow that formula. But he's too prideful, petty and out of touch somthey blew what could have been the biggest story line in wrestling history.

They couldn't even have anyone other than RVD rise to the level of credible mid card act during the invasion. Kanyon and Mike Awesome come to mind in that kind of spot.

@@moopert86 agreed, either of those guys could. Especially Awesome, just give him a mouth piece and he would be a monster heel. Kanyon was always one of my favorites, sucks he never got a sustainable push.

As silly as it was to place the top baby face of the company not only as a heel, but as the leader of an alliance the main being WCW who fired him after a promising run Austin was obviously still great in the role not many wanted him in. The biggest issue I will always have with the Alliance is Vince wanted this to rightfully be the greatest storyline of all time but wasn't willing to buy out even a few top guys from WCW out of their time Warner contracts. And the ones that came in straight away like Booker and DDP were weakened like the whole Alliance. Considering that if the WCW and Nitro brand still had most of its reputation it would have likely became what Smackdown became as a second show" it all felt so counter productive from Vince. Wanted to get the most out of him finally owning WCW but not willing to get the actual WCW guys over.
I still love discussing the invasion and it wasn't all bad in the slightest. Just to think what could have been, and what genuine few WCW stars could have meant to the WWE in the long run is so unfortunate. He never could let an established WCW guy have a shot at their full potential.

I wouldn't have bought anyone out.

    • @moopert86
      @moopert86 2 місяці тому +1

@@joshdamage I actually agree with this. The Time Warner contracts for top guys would have instantly made every one of them better paid than every single guy on the WWF roster. And Guys like Nash, Hogan, and Goldberg... they were more than happy to sit at home and make millions to do nothing.

Maybe he thinks he's Jesse Ventura. If you ever watch video of him as a commentator, he is constantly rocking back & forth. Sometimes even in just regular interviews he's doing it.
