Back again after several rewatches. I have to say what a joy it is to know an articulate bonsai presenter ; there are a few others but musical and good looking too?! Colin you got it all, come back soon 🙏✝️
Yay! Colin's back! Great to see you bro. very nice to hear the melodic tones of your music too. Oh yeah, and great progress on the barberry. Yellow blood man, that's just alien!
Lol yup, not of this world. They’re vicious little shits though. I once left a pruned branch in the ground and then later stepped on it with bare feet. FUN. But hopefully they respond well to pruning…we shall see. Cheers my friend. How’s Spain??
@@BostonBonsaiIdiot Spain is crazy right now. Politics haywire, weather is weird, somehow not much blue sky this year... hopefully life will be back on track before the end of summer 🤞 hope you're doing well and becoming accustomed to the burbs & nearby flight path.
That base is a monster of a barberry! I’m growing it in the ground still, hoping it does as well as yours! I’m digging the pruning decisions (and the ending line 😉)
How did I miss this video?? Missed you - super platonically ofcourse. The mice damage bah! That was nothing, once you started choppin it! It reallly looked like the mice ate it! To my surprise at the end, you have a nice little shohin. Great work man, for beating the mice at their own work. 😆😆
@@The_Dood yo buddy. Platonically, or not…it’s all game to me brother! I actually need to do an update on this already because, and please remain seated as I type this: THE PLAN ACTUALLY WORKED, and it’s growing like crazy!! So we shall see if I can get around to it. Cheers brother, always good to see your comments.
“I don’t buldge enough” 😂 One of my flaws as well! Great to have you back good sir! I’ve always wanted one of those but have never been fond of the spines. Cheers!
@@BostonBonsaiIdiot the industrial tree complex is strong this year so far. Did the first pruning a week or so ago and things are good. Still crap. But good lol
Thanks Xav! Been meaning to bug you about some dawn redwood advice this spring but ALAS, I never got around to all those repots and/or pruning. Looks like they'll have to wait another year in their pots...hold your breath!
Oh my happy day seeing your video posted. Brilliant time lapse - lover your pruning decisions, and that gnarly trunk! I can attest to those thorns - dam they be nasty!! What are you feeding your kids? They're growing up!
Nasty little buggers aren't they?? I've learned to carefully pickup all of your pruned-off branches because they become landmines for bare feet, especially once they've dried out a bit. SHEESH! Good to hear from you Sue, hope all is well.
I have always been fond barberry. The yellow wood is cool. Foliage comes in several colors too. It looked like you had some great re-growth after the initial chop, anything special with fertilizer? I am excited to see what you create with this tree. Great to see you again!
Yo bro! No nothing really special with fertilizer. I think I was hitting everything with a heavy dose of 20/20/20 early on the spring about once a week, but pretty much neglected everything for most of the summer. I think these things are just so tough that they grow through everything. Cheers man, looking forward to some spring vids from you!
Loved it! So interesting seeing the progress one year to the next......eagerly staying tooned 😉 Though, I was left wondering how those seriously jaundiced lookin' big wounds were healing...?!?
Yo Kate! As of today the wounds look ok. Not closed up, but in the process of rolling over. Time will tell if it will rot away or not. Cheers, stay tooned!
Good to see your pretty little face again Colin. I like the direction it’s taking, they seem to be fairly resilient things and the growth this year looks really promising. Also, how nice of a space is your dappled sunlight bonsai pruning area
My brother...good to hear from you. I hope all is well on your side of the pond. It also feels good to hear from people with very low standards for "pretty faces" so thanks again.
@@BostonBonsaiIdiot hope all is good. Once again you’ve shown me up by tending your trees. Well one tree anyway. I’m still utilising the STUN method and it appears to be having mixed results
@@leighharron Oh believe me, the vast majority have gone maintenance free for the last two years or so. It's rare I actually get back there these days.
Thanks my friend! I don't know if the barberry can survive tropical areas. I know that it is native to Japan and is considered invasive here in the U.S.A. It is cold hardy, but I don't know if it can survive the heat. Cheers my friend, I will go watch your new video now!

Wow, such bright yellow wood! A good plan for the tree!!

Niiiice that healed up well, and is growing like a beast. Its coming along very nicely. Also that yellow inside is funky!
Thanks bro, yeah hopefully it can heal from all my manual mous-ing. Cheers!
Omgggggggggg Colin!!!!!!
Lovin' the barberry!
Thanks buddy. Hope all is well up in the great white north!
Idiots delight. Nice work Colin. Thanks, keep growing
Thanks bud, hope all is well. Keep foisting!
Nice to see you back Colin, interesting work 👌
Thanks man!
Nice choppin' Colin. Like the way the tree's going. Looking good. 👍😀👌
Thanks Guy! Cheers my friend
Love your "style" of bonsai :) Keep them vids coming
Thank you sir, I’ll try my best!
That music sounds very familiar. Nice come back for this one. Shrub to pre bonsai! Nice!
I’m just glad we’re synching up our cycles. Our BARBERRY cycles, of course.

Yeah based on my experience, just keep growing it until she's THICCC, then chop away. Then be back when you have a little something more to show us.
Nice to see you posting again, great vid as always Colin
Thank you my Yakky friend, hope all is well.
@BostonBonsaiIdiot All is well my friend. Hope all is well with you.

It bleeds yellow. That's awesome 😎
@@bonsaiexpression yeah and someone mentioned that it’s incredibly bitter so the mice probably won’t eat it. All sorts of cool fun facts!
