If you upgrade to only 3.65 you can still install Enso and not have to re-exploit the system on every boot. I don't think there's many games that require 3.67/68. I'm mostly interested in the Vita for homebrew and emulation, so it doesn't matter to me. And we haven't needed the Adrenaline "Easy Installer" since Adrenaline 6. Just install the VPK.
Yes, for some reason the vita guide still recommends 3.60 I think adrenaline belongs on a Vita and not pstv cuz the resolution of extremely low and a vita is dirt cheap nowadays
Guess what I'll be doing this weekend? :D Thanks for the head's up. My PSTV is actually sitting right next to my TV, but it's not plugged up. It will be soon, though.
In my opinion I think all they would have had to do was add a patch to where if you used a PS4 controller the touchscreen on it would function like the PS Vita allowing you to play the entire library.
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I have two PSTVs I've pretty much never ever used sitting in a drawer. I got them cheap and pre-owned, and all I've done is test them and put them away. My plan was to exploit/mod one and use the other to link to my PS4 for streaming to another TV. Both are fortunately on low firmware versions. However, when I looked into it, everything seemed really complicated; not what to do, but the choice of exploits and benefits of which to use. I was scared to ruin my PSTVs, so I just put them away for a rainy day. This video is the sort of thing I've been looking for since then! Now all I need are some memory cards... no idea where to get those! :(
Just another example of the difference between what a console can do and what the financial department of a company wants you to be able to do with it. Keep it coming homebrew creators, you are the modern day Robin Hoods.
Solid video, dude! I still need to update my consoles to 3.65 since it comes with the added benefits of a permanent install, newer games running, and PSN access if you choose to do that. I'm curious though, why do you prefer to drop in a payload again as opposed to Enso?
just personal choice. Enso is rock solid but prefer something that doesn't permanently alter your system. Also bricks - www.reddit.com/r/vitahacks/comments/8v701k/psa_do_not_updatereinstall_360_and_then_also/
This is really exciting to me! I did have a PS Vita with henkaku last year but I had to sell it so the fact that I can get a cheaper alternative that I can play on my big screen is so cool! I would absolutely be instant watch more content about the PlayStation Vita Homebrew scene! Keep up the excellent work!
This is incredible. Thank you MVG for giving me a new project to tackle! Now just gotta dig up my PS TV lol. It’s at the bottom of a box in an attic somewhere
Great video for raising awareness on your channel MVG! Its a shame that Sony left the PS TV and Vita to die. Skullator showed a whitelist hack on his channel a year ago and it works on the latest firmware 3.68.
Vita is not dead, the PSTV is. Vita is still a good system, people are whining about Vita, where in reality the whining is connected only to games and memory cards being overpriced and that's why people are saying that Vita is dead and everyone should steal... oh, sorry, I mean pirate and mod them.
I have two PS TVs, it's kind of a lost cause. I visited these techniques about a year ago and, at the end of the day, there's just more convenient ways to play the same games on more modern consoles. The biggest disappointment of this whole PS TV story is the fact that it originally had a youtube application that suddenly disappeared. As far as I'm concerned, a youtube app at this point is pretty mandatory for any modern connected system.
Ehhhhh. I don't know. I love that youtube app, ya know? ;) The PS TV situation could have played out a lot better, and people would still be using it. Not sure what they were thinking.
thehaxfactory I'd rather not have "SMART" TV myself as they will eventually just end up like the PSVita unsupported without updates as companies want you to buy a new model. I'd rather just upgrade a cheap small box like a ROKU Express, or ROKU HDMI stick for all my streaming needs, and SONY could have taken a lot of that market share if only they had give it support, standard SD cards, and dropped the back touch pad on the VITA thus making all games compatible with the PSTV, and the ones that use the touch screen could have worked with a dual shock 4's front touch pad. So your excuse of that smart TV only cost $350 for the $K model, and the 1080p is only $150, you know what, that pays a lot of bills around my house instead of throwing it away on again something that more than likely will be outdated, and unsupported in a few years, and I would know as I was an early ROKU adopter, and recently over the past almost 2 years have had to upgrade all my ROKU boxes to express, express + and ROKU HDMI sticks while still saving my good TV's and costing less then a new 4K "Smart TV's", and that's 8 ROKU devices I upgraded for about $260 USD over that 2 year period.
MrDmoney156 agreed, plus why get rid of a good working TV with a "SMART" TV that's gonna become outdated, and unsupported in a few years. I would have loved a PS Vita on each of my HD TV's but as it stands all of them now have ROKU boxes instead, and when they become outdated, I can just replace them as needed for at cheap as $27 each while still keeping my good TV's.
It's sad that the home-brew folks do more with Sony products than Sony does. Props to everybody out there creating and contributing to the home-brew scene. You guys rock!
In hindsight, I should've picked up a PS TV when I had a chance! I didn't think there would be a big homebrew scene showing up on the Vita! Great video, good sir!
If you are on Firmware 3.61 for example, update to 3.65 or 3.67 NOT 3.68. 3.68 DOES NOT have a coldboot exploit where the lower versions do. This way you will not need to run the exploit each time you turn off your system, like on 3.68 firmware.
I had a PS Vita with 3.65 waiting for this moment to arrive. I’ve never had the ability to play that manu awesome games in one single device. I’m no sony fanboy but I can say that the hacked vita is much more fun than a switch (imho). Great vid btw! Amazing content modern vintage gamer!
This is fantastic - I was not aware that there is a workaround for that super expensive memory card. Knowing you can use a USB drive instead now - that's a gamechanger.GReat video, thanks for posting!
Sony took the piss with the Vita. As if the original PSP 2000 & 3000 could be connected to a big screen tv but they took that feature away from the Vita. Don't set the bar then lower it yourselves sony. Just saw your psp iso's in adrenaline, you can use a programme on PC i believe is called PSP ISO Renamer and it renames the iso files properly for you
wow you could do that with the psp but not the vita unless pstv? woww, the whole vita/psp legacy is just a shame, when the vita came out, I loved the hardware, I didn't buy it myself, but I thought the hardware was impressive and hypothetically what everyone wanted; another stick and I think almost simultanious apps running(?) , real shame.
YASPENA Yeah you could connect the original PSP 2000/3000 to a tv but they inexplicably removed it from the Vita. And yes you could have multiple apps running simultaneously on Vita, but the game library was so small and petty compared to the og PSP. Only thing missing from the 2000/3000 was bluetooth so if you did connect it to a tv you'd have to use the psp as the controller which is a slight downfall but still better than no TV output at all. PSP go had bluetooth so it could be connected to a tv and played like a proper console but they're more expensive, have a smaller screen and from what i've read more prone to faliure
@bigevilworldwide1 So you have buy a whole new system and memory cards to play on a tv when its the same thing you already bought. No one wants to have to buy it twice, swap game cards around and keep save files synced, the vita should of had a tv port but they removed it presumably to sell pstv's, which didn't really work. Also many vita games aren't playable on pstv without CFW.
@bigevilworldwide1 That's their point. Why would you pay $100 for the privilege of connecting the device you already own to the TV. A device mind you that was falling and disliked and with the direct predecessor being able to connect while working with all the games.
I still have my PS TV that I couldnt get homebrew on, so I tore it apart took a look at the internals. Years later, its now just a motherboard I use to play Vita games. What a great system!
@Modern Vintage Gamer This is awsome and i got to try this out on my vita tv. I also found one for 20$. The store had 2 so i got one for my brother. We start playing on nes and now with the emulators, we relieve the good old times. Thanks for the information.
Thought PSV Homebrew was dead for everyone with a Vita or PSTV over 3.65... Thanks god it is possible to use HENKAKU since July 1st on 3.65+ Thanks for keeping us up to date and greetings from Germany 👍
Another great video MVG. I didn't even know Sony released a VitaTV. Must had been a stillborn product when it was released here in the UK, if it ever was released here in the UK.
As far as I know, every PlayStation TV units shipped to us had 3.60 installed already. So if you have a brand new PlayStation TV, you're good to go out of the box. I love the PlayStation TV myself, I have 2: one to play legit and one for modding like this.
KoTerrors well I stand corrected. I bought 2 altogether, one I got for $30 from GameStop for the standalone, and one from Walmart bundled with the dualshock 3, 8gb card, as well as Lego the movie game and sly Cooper game for $40. Both had 3.60 but admittedly they were clearance models so they could have been later skus.
A year late to this but still rad! Thanks for great episode @Modern Vintage Gamer! I went out to the local retro home console game store but no luck for vita tv, online they go for $80 - $150, ridiculous!
Sony had no clue what they were doing. They were making record losses. The PS4 really saved the company. Until that point, literally every Sony division was running a loss.
The PS4 is the ONLY thing keeping Sony afloat. Their disasters with Sony Pictures and Entertainment and the Consumer Electronics divisions are proof Sony is on life support. If they don't hit it out of the park with PS5, they could be doomed. Especially with Project One X and the Nintendo Switch Lite and Pro. Hit it or quit it Sony you ain't got much time if you lose the lead.
@@deathstrike well said, they already handed over their hosting for psn over too Microsoft. That's why we see cross play on cod now. I can see Microsoft adding windows 10 to their new system and it WILL kill Sony in my opinion. Once 5g is rolled out Google stadia will be the next step after ps5 etc.
@@cfoodsmella1041 Exactly! Sony who once started the 3d gaming revolution, is now beginning to fall a big behind as it does not really have a backup like Microsoft. Even if the XBOX failed, their IP's alone and Windows 10 and their Surface tablet lines would easily keep them afloat. Nintendo needs not worry as they got 2 massive successes (Switch and Lite) and are the last of the "pick up and play" systems. And Sony? No Vita successor, no VR successor, and no other backup. As for Stadia, I like the idea and it's solid, providing Google doesn't just kick it to the curb like their other projects (Google Plus and Google Glass) and the appeal of an "any device anywhere" is very strong. Just hope that bandwidth (especially in the US) gets better as that is what is killing Stadia for all but a lucky few with good internet speed.
Great video with great .Mod music. Looks like if I come across a cheap PSTV I'll have to snatch it up, and give some of this a go, that is if I can find a cheap 8GB PSVita memory card, and PS3/PS4 controller. lol! Having said that the price of the memory cards, and not all the games working is what stopped me from getting a PSTV when it was new, same can be said about the memory cards for the PSVita(price of the system did not help either).
With homebrew the Vita and PSTV can use sd cards with a cheap adapter, but if you just going with the PSTV its even easier to use a USB drive. There's almost no need to have an official memory card unless you have an OLED model with no internal memory to work with.
chronossage I've heard of varying results with the adapters of some not working at all, and some working but flaky depending on the SD card used, and from the ones I've looked up on Amazon by the time you get one of the adapters, and an SD card it's about the same price as a PSVita memory card, plus on a PSVita don't they stick out the top? if so seems like they would be easy to break. having to use an adapter like this, or hack the system to use an industry standard such as a USB flash drive is just piss poor design on Sony's part.
Commodorefan64 All the adaptors fit inside the game card slot with only a couple of the earlier versions sometimes requiring some sanding of the top corners of the adaptor to get the flap perfectly closed and only on the vita slim model. As for price you could buy and official 64gb memory card for a hundred dollars or more. But I bought a 256gb SD card, and 2 adaptors for the same price. And to be perfectly honest one of my two adaptors didn't works from the get go but I got a refund and the one that works has been fine for months now. Also you said you wanted a pstv in your initial post, and you don't even need to worry about adaptors as that has a built in USB port. So you can use way cheaper thumb driver, or even hard drives on. You just have to be careful with hard drives as the USB port doesn't supply alot of power itself so you might want a hard drive with its own power brick, or which ones others have used successfully. Some people have pstv's with 1 or 2 terabytes for storage.
Another great video. It's funny though, I actually use my PSTV the most for the one thing you didn't cover in this video - Original PlayStation emulation. It's excellent on PSTV.
I remember when I was young, I downloaded a bunch on ps1 games, and with a soft, I could convert them to psp games. I had a lot of great games (with a cfw). But I f*cked up with the cfw and bricked the console, and I couldn't but a Pandora battery or a magic memory stick to revive it. I'd like to find a working one, even used for 20/30$. I never had the psvita, because when it came out I was 13, and I didn't have enough money
I modded mine a few months ago with Henkaku but you've supplied additional information I wasn't aware of, ESPECIALLY with the idea of getting a USB flash drive.
My PSTV story is pretty much the same as yours. Ive had it for a couple of years, but its been collecting dust for about 2 years now. Im really excited to try and put some of this stuff on there and really revitalize this cheap little system as a nice emulation and nostalgia box!
I've heard that into track before. It was an old MOD or S3M from back in the early demo scene days. I even used it in my old Turbo Pascal emag I used to write for the ascii art scene ua-cam.com/video/ncjI1zWQwQE/v-deo.html
Without homebrew about 45% of the vita library is playable. With homebrew and using a DS4, does anyone have a rough estimate of how many games are playable with a reasonable amount of struggle? I’d love to get a vita, but playing them on a TV is more appealing, and I want to make sure I’m not missing out on some really cool games that won’t work on the PSTV
It was mostly only the earliest Vita games that used touchscreen gimmicks. I'd estimate at least 90% of the games past the launch window didn't bother with them and would be perfectly playable with this whitelister.
Great video which introduced me to the PStv. Picked one up cheap and it's my go to for playing PS1 games. I prefer the display options of a hacked PStv compared to playing PS1 on PS3. I've had some good results using it with MClassic.
Air Zonk... It's a Turbo Graphix 16 game or pce game in Japan, there's also Super Air Zonk. It's Bonk but in shmup style. You can play it on emulators.
All of these third-party groups that make some products so much better, why can’t the actual company that make the product make the differences themselves and stop being lazy and money hordes.
Damn man thanks for all of this. I had no clue a new exploit was out for us that upgraded our firmware too much I will definitely give it a try when I have the time.
I just picked one up for 8 bucks at a flea market, not really knowing what it is. Glad to catch this video. Sounds like a great deal. Perhaps turning it into a nice portable device that hooks up to a TV...
Ryan A But you can't take your $2000 PC with you and play it on the move, such a stupid comparison. For example my 100$ (that's how much I got mine second and for) Ps Vita can run any emulator up to PS1, plus any Vita games I want as well.
I can't believe someone actually traded a bag of weed for a PSTV, I mean who does that? If it was a firestick, with USB adapter, I'd understand... but for a PSTV? Man, if only that guy knew he was getting ripped off... hehe. How much he was getting ripped off, depends on how big the bag is. LOL.

Also bricks - www.reddit.com/r/vitahacks/comments/8v701k/psa_do_not_updatereinstall_360_and_then_also/
PSN access without ban? How?
No one ever got banned using a hacked Vita... so the answer to how is how to even get banned on the VIta :D ?
I'm still waiting with my Enso 3.65 Vitas and PSTV. Having to use Mai dumps is a huge negative in my opinion.
@Jake why would you use Mai Dumps if there is the NPS or PKGj
This is really exciting to me! I did have a PS Vita with henkaku last year but I had to sell it so the fact that I can get a cheaper alternative that I can play on my big screen is so cool! I would absolutely be instant watch more content about the PlayStation Vita Homebrew scene! Keep up the excellent work!
6:45 HEY! That reminds me of the "Letter Bomb" exploit on the Nintendo Wii! :D
Some legit nostalgia hit me from that music, Amiga forever!
This is incredible. Thank you MVG for giving me a new project to tackle!
Now just gotta dig up my PS TV lol. It’s at the bottom of a box in an attic somewhere
Looks like I may need to dust off my "Persona 4 Golden player" and put it to use
Imagine if they re-released the PSTV not only as a vita but also as a streaming box for full console games. It would sell pretty well
Great video for raising awareness on your channel MVG!
Left to die is not the same as dead 🙄
I now want a pstv. So glad they finally got around that limitation.
Time to play Windjammers!
Get it before it gets super expensive
Yeah, I should. We all know that this video will make the device go up $100 on eBay.
MightySquirrel Spoke to soon... it definitely reached up there now! especially on Amazon.com it's going for $110 - $154.99
@@MrDmoney156 its about almost 200$now
Just got my first PSTV and came straight here to start wrapping my head around modding it!
The UA-cam app wasnt great. A much better method which still works is to just use the browser
Ehhhhh. I don't know. I love that youtube app, ya know? ;) The PS TV situation could have played out a lot better, and people would still be using it. Not sure what they were thinking.
thehaxfactory Not everyone has the cash to get a 4K Roku television and the PlayStation TV could've been their cheaper solution
thehaxfactory I'd rather not have "SMART" TV myself as they will eventually just end up like the PSVita unsupported without updates as companies want you to buy a new model.
I think a back story of the ps vita homebrew scene would be an interesting topic to explore. Keep up the great videos.
Nice! My dad works in the army so we have to move a lot and we’ll stay at hotels for short times so I can use this at them
It's sad that the home-brew folks do more with Sony products than Sony does. Props to everybody out there creating and contributing to the home-brew scene. You guys rock!
In hindsight, I should've picked up a PS TV when I had a chance! I didn't think there would be a big homebrew scene showing up on the Vita!
Great video, good sir!
I've owned 3 PSTV and sold them all cuz they wouldn't play a few games I wanted and I didn't see a Vita homebrew scene happening lol
Lol, I've got one for 25€ exactly for that reason
Thing I love about the PS TV is it's form factor, I'd truely love to see an Android TV box with the same shape and connectivity as of the PSTV
If you are on Firmware 3.61 for example, update to 3.65 or 3.67 NOT 3.68. 3.68 DOES NOT have a coldboot exploit where the lower versions do. This way you will not need to run the exploit each time you turn off your system, like on 3.68 firmware.
it only takes like 20 seconds or less. hardly worth stressing over.
There is also a port of AM2R for the PSVita/PSTV. Imho this is the best way to experience the Metroid II fan remake on a big screen.
This is fantastic - I was not aware that there is a workaround for that super expensive memory card. Knowing you can use a USB drive instead now - that's a gamechanger.GReat video, thanks for posting!
By the way, did you know that you can play PSP and PS Vita-related fighting games on your PS TV/PS Vita TV with a PS3/PS4 arcade stick?
Man i wish I had known about the possibilities of these before the price exploded. Def worth the $30-$50
Sony took the piss with the Vita.
YASPENA
Yeah you could connect the original PSP 2000/3000 to a tv but they inexplicably removed it from the Vita. PSP go had bluetooth so it could be connected to a tv and played like a proper console but they're more expensive, have a smaller screen and from what i've read more prone to faliure
damnnnnn !
@bigevilworldwide1
So you have buy a whole new system and memory cards to play on a tv when its the same thing you already bought.
About the external memory, you can get an "adapter" to use microsd in the cartridge slot...
Just bought one today. Been using a 1000&2000.
So far loving it. It’s excellent to be able to play some titles on a big screen.
Better than my snes classic. Also prefer this over the pi3. Makes a great little living room emulation box.
@Modern Vintage Gamer This is awsome and i got to try this out on my vita tv. I also found one for 20$. The store had 2 so i got one for my brother. We start playing on nes and now with the emulators, we relieve the good old times. Thanks for the information.
I'm so happy I left mine on 3.65
Thought PSV Homebrew was dead for everyone with a Vita or PSTV over 3.65...
Thanks god it is possible to use HENKAKU since July 1st on 3.65+
Thanks for keeping us up to date and greetings from Germany 👍
When you connect a psp with an AV cable to your tv, it works, but it's a very small screen.
I love the PlayStation TV myself, I have 2: one to play legit and one for modding like this.
ah interesting. Mine is a JP version which came with a lower FW out of the box
Sony:
2013: Launch the PSTV
2015: Release TVs run Android
Sony had no clue what they were doing. They were making record losses. The PS4 really saved the company. Until that point, literally every Sony division was running a loss.
They lost over $4.5b with the PS3
THAT GENESIS EMULATOR FOR THE PS2 SONG AT THE BEGINNING GIVES ME CHILLS
"at the bottom of my office drawers, never to be used again"
*Puts it at the topmost drawer*
But it’s at the bottom of that drawer. He never said ‘bottom drawer’.
@@Brinta3 mfw joke
The music brings me back to those 80’s office training videos. :)
Damn, should've jumped on this earlier, goes on Amazon for over $200 now...smh
So awesome! I just picked up a PSTV and dint even know about all these exploits that are available. Definitely going to dive deep!
Commodorefan64 just hack it to use a flash drive simple
No need for paying 8gb for the price or 32gb flash drive
(Or even 64gb)
I still use it and this device saved me a tons of travels.
I use the PSTV to stream my PS4 on another room, it's like having a second PS4.
I modded mine a few months ago with Henkaku but you've supplied additional information I wasn't aware of, ESPECIALLY with the idea of getting a USB flash drive.
I remember when this came out and a few years ago my dad considered getting one to stream Tv shows, we settled on the Amazon fire usb stick.
Space Debris! Great opening song!
Yeah, reminds me of the "good old days" . no internet, no streaming just plain old copied floppies .
You should try the SD2VITA card
Flash drive is better
My PSTV story is pretty much the same as yours. Ive had it for a couple of years, but its been collecting dust for about 2 years now. Im really excited to try and put some of this stuff on there and really revitalize this cheap little system as a nice emulation and nostalgia box!
MVG: “Now both bukkake and hentai...wait...”
The music playing (Space Debris) was my all time favorite mod. I must have played it about a thousand times on my Amiga 500.
They're so expensive now...
SPACE DEBRIS! Yes! One of my favorites.
"ON THE PLAYSTATION TV " You said it some many times on the video I am becoming crazy already omfg
So much missed potential it is unreal. Great video mate.
I've heard that into track before. It was an old MOD or S3M from back in the early demo scene days. I even used it in my old Turbo Pascal emag I used to write for the ascii art scene

That music on the start, I respect
Without homebrew about 45% of the vita library is playable. With homebrew and using a DS4, does anyone have a rough estimate of how many games are playable with a reasonable amount of struggle?
I’d love to get a vita, but playing them on a TV is more appealing, and I want to make sure I’m not missing out on some really cool games that won’t work on the PSTV
Rei Senpai you should be able to pay any game that doesn't require the camera. There's only a handful that does.
It was mostly only the earliest Vita games that used touchscreen gimmicks. I'd estimate at least 90% of the games past the launch window didn't bother with them and would be perfectly playable with this whitelister.
downphoenix well ac liberation does on its before last sequence /:
And don't forget about gyroscope
You can't play uncharted on your ps tv
bedo's adventures fortunately that game is playable on current gen systems so that's the way to go with that. Uncharted is a loss though.
RoseWolfz Prime can that be played on a TV?
Great video which introduced me to the PStv. Picked one up cheap and it's my go to for playing PS1 games. I prefer the display options of a hacked PStv compared to playing PS1 on PS3. I've had some good results using it with MClassic.
excuse me but what is mclassics?
14:18 what game is in the screen?
Air Zonk... It's a Turbo Graphix 16 game or pce game in Japan, there's also Super Air Zonk. It's Bonk but in shmup style. You can play it on emulators.
You've convinced me to buy a PSTV. Retropie is good but this is better

I traded my pstv for a bag of weed. Totally worth it lol
ClutchGamez no but i can on my $2000 pc and with a bag of weed
You could have gamed on the pstv for a long time, then smoked it after it breaks down. Better luck next time.
Ryan A But you can't take your $2000 PC with you and play it on the move, such a stupid comparison.
For example my 100$ (that's how much I got mine second and for) Ps Vita can run any emulator up to PS1, plus any Vita games I want as well.
I wonder how many marijuanas he snorted?
I can't believe someone actually traded a bag of weed for a PSTV, I mean who does that? If it was a firestick, with USB adapter, I'd understand... but for a PSTV? Man, if only that guy knew he was getting ripped off... hehe. How much he was getting ripped off, depends on how big the bag is. LOL.
