I know you most likely already know this by now (I'm watching in order), but the parry button blocks attacks when timed with the opponents strike. It's also used to escape grapples. Speaking of grapples, when you figure out the timing, are so devastating. As are the other moves when you upgrade/level them up. It takes a bit of grinding, but you can make your attacks stronger and add more attacks/strikes to them. I love Shenmue and when I found out you were doing a playthrough, I was so stoked! It's been a pleasure watching others enjoy this game I loved so much growing up. Thanks :)
Ian, I personally savescum this part every time but not savescumming in a live stream makes sense. Nobody wants to watch someone reload saves. You guys actually made it super entertaining during the box moving at the end. I loved the conversation about what it'll be like when you're 70.
I love that the Color Wheel scale had no way of saying "I don't like achievements." There was red (I like achievements), yellow (I don't care), or blue (I like achievements). If you're purple, does that mean you SUUUUUUUPER like achievements? And if you're orange or green, are you equivalent on the scale? Whatever. I'm whatever color means "I don't like achievements." Luckily, most of the games I play are super old, so I don't have to worry about it~! Also, I love that brief awkward moment after Ryo's messed up a button press when the crate has dropped and Congo still has his hands in position. It's like, "Congo know boy just want to hurt Congo. Congo feel unfathomable sadness."
This was such an enjoyable stream. You've clearly perfected Ryo's fighting style, and it made me laugh a lot. Punching is lame, running away and grabbing are what's cool now.
love watching your VODs :) Sorry for the difficult name.... My name is Marcia and people told me i had the attitude of Marvin the Martian... So people started calling me Marcian lol Thanks for all the great videos as you are one of my most favorite UA-camrs :)
You know, I feel like the extreme dependence on constantly earning money kind of diminishes this game for me a bit. I know it's easy to blame Ian's obsession with gambling, but I don't really think that's the root of the problem. In Shenmue 1, the focus was on the investigation. Money was present so you had some leeway to approach problems from different angles, and even though it wasn't much, Ine-san's allowance made you always feel like you COULD progress. There were very few actual money barriers in that game, so you were allowed to stick to the investigation side. With Shenmue 2, it feels like the money angle is a lot more troublesome. There are different approaches you can take (gambling, pawning, street fighting, EUUUGH-ing), but no one really feels consistent or worthwhile. Gambling is challenging even to an experienced Lucky Hitter, pawning requires you to have something valuable to pawn, street fighting requires you to be good at Virtua Fighter, and EUUUUGH-ing is just...well, time-consuming and dull. I've never played the game, so I can't say from firsthand experience, but I feel like the money issues are a bit of a design flaw. EDIT: I heard in the chat that Yu Suzuki was intentionally trying to make the player/Ryo feel like they were struggling for money to reflect the notion that, since he was abroad in China, he was not in as comfortable a position. I think he nailed that, although I also feel that may not be something you necessarily want the player to feel. It's like putting obnoxious, jarring noise in the background to indicate that the player avatar has tinnitus or something. Overall, at this point, I feel like Shenmue 1's the better game. But I also saw people in this stream saying that "the best is yet to come," so maybe the judgement is too early. Either way, I saw more than enough Gatcha for one stream. I'm not convinced Gold Pose Man is gettable.
In terms of achievements in games, I'd give it a 5 out of 10 or a #FFDB58. I'm not really a competitive gamer, so I'm definitely not a bragger. I'll watch you when you're 70 :) Those last two fights were intense!
I don't know why you look so distraught when you find out you need 3500 smackers to continue the story. all I hear is an opportunity to gamble without making up an excuse to the chat.

The original title of this VOD was "Grabbing Dudes in Public for Money", but UA-cam didn't like it.

Shenmue 2 always reminded me a lot of the Runescape quest "One Small Favor"
Oh god I forgot about Congo
"Let's change it to a color square. It's like a color wheel, but it's a square"

Since they're doing game 1 and game 2 in hd does that mean we can finally bring our things from game 1 over to game 2?
I just split a baked potato with my dog
He really likes Ian's Shenmue 2

You haven't played either game so I wouldn't talk so much
What is it with this game and exertion noises? Like who would ever make these?
I must know who the pretty girl reacting to coca cola and popcorn is.
