    Thanks for having Mario in the video! Voltage sag and the true Wh (energy) delivered by the pack are critical. Much more important than the capacity rating and even the current rating (as long as you are not abusing that). The P42A is a great performer and an even better cell is on the way, the P45B, that will hopefully be used by the manufacturers.

    You touch on a point that I think needs to be addressed by manufacturers… but they are so focused on the high speed, long range audience… but nobody is catering at all to the folks who don’t ride 40+ miles at a time…. I was kinda hoping you were gonna give this a bad review. Lol. I just bought my first EUC a few weeks ago. First I watched a ton of youtube videos by you, Chooch, Ginger, Wrong Way, etc. During that time of course I watched the video of the new Kingsong catching fire in NYC. So of course after I ordered my S18 from Ewheels and Jason emailed me asking if I wanted to wait a couple weeks, pay a couple extra hundred bucks and get a new special S18 with a new battery, I said no. I didn't want to be one of the first to get it only to find it prone to blowing up. Now I kinda think I should have waited. Oh well. But whatever! I'm loving this thing. Did my first ride across town yesterday and it was amazing! Thanks for all your great videos!

    I got the molicel version a few weeks ago and really enjoy it, I live in a strange area to ride and most of my riding is around my yard and in the woods beside my house, since the S22 has been delayed I went for the 18 molicel for it's better torque (hopefully) and lighter weight and I'm glad I did. It feels very similar acceleration wise as my MCM5V2 and of course the suspension is butta. I figured I'd run the battery down quick but it's not bad even at my 210lbs, I did also opt for the fast charger which is a good investment imo. Oh, I haven't even added pads yet, it won't really be for power but for stability.

    Voltage sag is very important. The electric power delivered is Watts = voltage x current.(amps) . The motor has windings, the controller has resistance and transients, the battery has interconnects, and connecting everything is wiring and connectors. Measurable resistance is everywhere. The losses due to resistance (heat) are amps (squared) x resistance. As the voltage sags, the amps go up to deliver the same power, but the resistance losses (heat) rise exponentially. So, if the voltage sags 10&, the amps rise 10% but the heat generated rises by 21%. Resistance rises with temperature. So, more power is consumed in resistance losses which reduces the voltage getting to the motor which must be compensated by more amps to maintain power. This goes around in circles and can lead to thermal runaway. This is the primary reason our wheels have increased voltage. However, high voltage MOSFETS are more expensive and there are diminishing returns for increasing the voltage. Motors also generate back emf which is a generator effect. The faster these motors run, the more back emf or blocking voltage is generated. Back emf is the reason you have a no load speed when you lift a running wheel. You cannot eliminate resistance, but its one of the trade off choices that have to be made by the manufacturer. Changing the battery pack is about the only thing you can to about it as a consumer.

    The Molicel P42A can handle 30 to 40 amps, but that translates into 90 to 120 amps with the 20S3P configuration. The S18 controller board and motor can't handle this, so the fuses remain at 20 amps, translating into 60 amps for the controller and motor (actually 66 amps, since blade fuses are spec'ed to run 100+ hours at 110% current rating). The controller board is going to limit this further still, but I don't know by how much. If it can handle 60 amps, then at 60 amps, based on testing, a 50E or M50T battery pack will sag about 14 volts, while a P42A pack will sag about 9 volts, so a P42A pack can output the same power with 5 volts less battery charge. The unknown here is what the peak power that the controller will allow.

A number of hills where my bud (weighs 70+lbs more) on his RSt smokes me, my s18 would literally give up 1/2 way up the climb. If this s18 SE can get close to the torque of the RSt, I wouldn't have sold it. Don't need range for em dirt fun stuff but torque, light weight & nimbleness are a must which the RSt have in spades. Price tag aside, are there any downsides to using this is a beginner's wheel? I seem to fall in the category of "heavier rider" at 220lbs so I've been contemplating something like this or the V11 to learn on.

  • @bobreichel
    @bobreichel 2 роки тому

    So what exactly is the difference? I only saw 14 added miles or is that coming out in your next video? I have the S-18 I love the wheel but would like more power and twice the distance.

  • @evgeniyan2426
    @evgeniyan2426 2 роки тому

    The very short explanation why high voltage is better. Power of leakage = I^2 × R. So less the current , less the leakage Power in a square dependence. But to reduce the current , you should increase the voltage. That's why high voltage is better.

    I ride a standard s18 and have been concerned with the safety margin of the 3p pack, I am 70kg lightweight and as an older person do not push the wheel hard, but am getting close to top speed often and would like to be able to accelerate a bit more harder at times, According to EUC World my typical max current usually doesn't exceed 15amp, could this be correct ?? just cruising along at 30+ kph current is about 6amps again according to EUC world which is I assume just reading the kingsong firmware output. if the readings can be trusted I seem to have plenty of overhead , any opinion on this??

    • @DuffMan-lh9lc
      @DuffMan-lh9lc 2 роки тому

      @@PatVachon based on previous experience in RC things, it will decrease it. Voltage sag is a thing, but not as relevant until you pull that throttle really really hard; but if you do it, range will never be enough anyway.
