If i was under 16 right now it would totally be a challenge accepted moment and I would be super driven to beat the system it's a fair enough concept but i can't see it also not backfiring a bit
The simplest method I can think of to block social media is for parents to install firewalls at the router/modem level. That becomes a personal problem, not a legal and industrial problem. If they need help with it they can ask their kids how to set up the firewalls.
Kinda strange that this isn't just a school grounds ban. I wonder how they define social media, what apps? UA-cam falls under social media but it's got a vast amount of education focused channels. We also know full well that governments fail to differentiate between this and communication platforms like Whatsapp. Would art platforms be affected? this could easily eliminate a ton of younger aspiring artists. I don't think they considered these questions.. A better solution would be to educate the parents on the positives & negatives of these platforms since they're the ones who decided to grant their children the ability to access said platforms.

Parents need to take control of their children's internet access.
Well done Australia it is a start in protecting families the world will follow
That’s true, but I know multiple people who use the internet as a kind of escape from bullying, harassment, excluding groups, etc. I feel like they should rather ban shorts, because that’s the main reason kids nowadays have such small attention spans, always need stimulation and become narcissistic ish. We should keep apps like Instagram and discord for texting, but remove the shorts.
@НеіНаа Hi what it is saying is get a life, there is the rest of your life after 16 to use the screen.
They can just change the year of birth and increase the age,
It certainly should be Discouraged.
Take away their phones for the love of Christ.
So parents need the government to make a law so it controls their children? 😂
VPN companies are cheering🎉
They have an eye on those as well.
How do you prove a user is under-16 year old? Does every adult user verify their age with their legal ID and give up their privacy?
Australian Nanny state strikes again..
Are you over 16 years of age? Yes/No lol
Great idea!! 👍
It would easier to ban Adults from social media 😄
Does that include youtube?
4-chan thanks you for your service.
Now all i can think about is Moot and the Aussie meme
too many people have died, I'm above 16 and im old enough to know better! i love Australians! so I'm 💯,yes
How are you going to keep kids off the internet? This will never work.
@@ljre3397 it’s not the internet, it’s social media.
@@snoopy13946 its not social media, it is the internet, goverment always starts with fingers and then take your whole hand away. the internet will be gone and under filter system until hackers make their own network. multiple example have been giving in the past 10 years. enjoy it while it last
Young people, or children need to start learning right from wrong early in life by their own decisions and strong values, not restrictions.. There is no way gov should impose itself how parents bring their children. Any way, not sure how this can be implemented without big brother watching and digital ids. I do not agree that parents were in this conversation
Where are the parents!!!!!??
Parents aren't involved enough in their kids lives if they are on their phones and computers and especially when they do stunts they see on social media and/or bully kids through social media.
Even many parents even in the US are pathetic blaming others for bullying, kids doing stunts because of social media. Uh, they need to be aware and listen to their kids and be interested in what they say and how they say it.
How about social media companies have stricter parental controls. For phones and computers.
Government have taken away the rights of parents more and more so then parents get lazy and/or just do not know what to do.
I am a parent of a teen. I am very involved and have no problem to say "no" to my kid and have them dislike me. But it has been absolutely exhausting. This stuff is highly adictive and potentially harmful. This legislation is the same as not allowing minors to drink, to drive, smoke weed, etc.
This is not Saudi Arabia, Iran or Russia. We are supposed to be the free world. Stay moderate!
I wonder what you getting from a 16 year-old using social media? If you don’t agree with this band technically that means you are doing something wrong.
@ cannot ban everything someone thinks is bad for you, this is not Iran or Russia
@Ciilow24 if you think the internet is full of only awful things, why are you here? Maybe parents should control their kids
You forgot to add China, North Korea & Malaysia.
@@thorkagemob1297how parents can control edgy teenager who watches Andrew Tate and tries to escape the matrix? Thanks for social media
Try not buying smart phones for your kids. Flip phone them.
Treat online as necessary (svhool n'such) but, HEY, PARENTS!!!
PARENT.
if your put your child to bed by 8pm, how hard is it to say, no to online? To limit their access? To parent lock their computer?
Which is why it shouldn't be banned, it's up to the parent to keep their children in check. I don't want the government raising my children
@bigdogediting that, and it can potentially lead to other bans. Not just for adolescents.
Slippery slope, there. With this ban.
Besides, implementing this will be immensely hard. Then, there is the policing. How do you know when someone isn't old enough??
It's a great idea. But, let's put the onus where it belongs. On the parents to monitor what their child is exposed to.
We do for everything else.
✌
I agree with you all!!!! We don’t need the government to parent our children at all 😱😱😱😱😭😭😭😭😢😢😢😢😢.
Look at that classic woke abc “expect” 😂😂😂😂 give me a break from all this nonsense
lol it was implemented by a conservative government, not sure how you the left had anything to do with it. 🙄
Seems a bit unfair to those teenagers who are freely using them now but will no longer be allowed once the law is implemented.
That's what teenager's said when laws were brought in to ban their ability to buy and consume alcohol. They will get over it.
@@PraetorianAUalcohol is a totally different issue. Get a grip.
@@ljre3397no. It might be less physically destructive. But it is far more wide spread, and it can destroy lives just as efficiently.
This is the point. They want them dumbed down, socially isolated, and easy to coercively controlled.
@@darkhorseman8263you don’t know how to socialise without an online social media!? If you can’t then that’s very sad.

Will Australia require that pedestrians wear helmets outside next?
Bullying from social media caused aussie kids to commit suicide. I do support the bill my government just have it passed but wonder how to implement it.
Australia and New Zealand have often been used for the Empire's social engineering experiments
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
But allows porn to be accessible...
it’s much about Politics … a whole year to actually enable this? could be tied to a Digital ID card coming, because how else can you validate someone’s age when you’re 15 or 16?
Perfect hahhah😂😂
Another way for government to get involved into people's lives...
1. This has to fall in the supreme court or whatever Australians have.
2. Kids need a right to vote.
This is embarassing for Australia, the pearl clutchers have taken control.
A company craates an app for all to use, now a country creates a rule for this app and if the owner of the company doesn't obey it must pay. I don't get.
50 million < 50 billion
Still no repercussions 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
