  • "Too true - it is a rotten hole
    A dreary, cheerless place.
    And to Bonnie, Bonnie Scotland,
    A damnable disgrace.
But if I swore from morn till night,
    The half I'd never tell,
And so I think I'll save my breath
    And simply call it Hell
    .............That's STOBS"
Join Fiona, inKa, Lewis and I as we take a look at Stobs Military Camp near Hawick opened in the very early part of the 20th century, was used both for training and for holding POWs after WW1 closed sometime in the 60s not much remains apart from the foundations of the old huts, was once a massive place situated very high would have made for bleak weather and living conditions.

Just been reading the accounts of the men stationed there, a very bleak and muddy place harsh discipline and depression were commonplace, Thank you Jenni ❤️ best wishes to you and yours x X

Hi Mace, great video again, as a side note, when my father had been de-mobbed after WW2, he was re-called for the Korean War in 1952, and was to report to Stobs camp, but he never had to attend, cheers Buzz.

Just been researching the history there, it’s absolutely fascinating I wish I had of researched it properly before I made this video as I now know the significance of the place, that POW hut for instance is over 100 years old.
SBC should preserve Stobs as it’s far more enriching than a tapestry in Galashiels they’ve wasted millions on, thank you for sharing your thoughts Buzz 🐝

Hi 👋 came over from Lewis’s channel.
Fiona- I love your voice. You sound like you should be reading children’s books 💕. You sound magical like Glenda the good witch ❤️. Loved the tour 👍👏.
I always wonder why these old buildings aren’t picked clean of some of the beautiful old objects in these type of places. That stairway once , was probably so pretty. Have a great weekend 🙏🏻💐

"Now the bleak, windswept hills lie as silent witnesses to all that passed before them." Very appropriate line from one of the links you provided. Several indications of that wind in the video. Good history lesson. Travel Safe

I sat and read the accounts of the men there last night unimaginable what they endured, whole battalions dead because they were made to go over the top even though the previous regiment had been completely wiped out, facing bullets with heads down as if in bad weather. Also the importance of music and sings to lift there spirts. No hot water at the camp mud everywhere etc gave me more of an appreciation of the place as I knew very little beforehand. I hope you’re well nana much love from both me and Fio xX ❤️💙🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I don't think I've seen any videos by "Lewis" lately.
I'll have to check my subscription list to make sure he's still there.
2:38 was that an old "silver cross" pram? Those things where built like tanks.

@@XhristinaMacey I don't mean to offend or defend either of you as I don't know what was said / done to make you feel or think that way about someone.
You must remember, some people act differently when something has changed about somebody that they *used* to know.
This could be sexuality, religion or even losing weight and many other reasons too.
I think it's more of a simple misunderstanding on both sides. (Again, I don't know what happened. Nor am I asking for details)
