you are exactly right about the "radio silence" I received info about my GA position and registration and nothing else in weeks!
I knooow! It's anxiety inducing! But at least you know that it's "normal"...
Last time i did anything school related was 10 years ago, i gave up on furthering my education. Look at me now preparing for my masters. Glad i stumbled on this channel.
Hello! I just got accepted into grad school! I haven’t been in grad school in 16 years!! Very nervous and anxious 😬 your video was very helpful ❤ thank you!!! Also first in my family to get my masters ❤
Congratulations!!! What an amazing milestone! So glad you are here!
Your intro made me so hype! I just got accepted into my grad program yesterday. Thank you for the tips! :)
Omg I'm so glad I came across your account! I'm gonna be starting my MS in math this Fall and eventually I want to get my PhD in math too! I'd love to hear your study methods for your classes! Especially analysis and preparing for the prelims!
We mostly just had really challenging homework sets. So I would work on them as soon as they were given. Then work with the other students in my classes. And for any problems we couldn't answer, I would go to office hours. For qualifying exams, ours were in the summer so I studied for 4-6 hours every day for about 6 weeks to take two exams.
I’m so glad I was able to stumble upon this video. I’m also excited to check out all your other videos since I just found out I was accepted into my grad program. Looking forward to the free masterclass!!! 🥳
Congratulations queen! I'm so excited for you :) have you decided what your top 3 goals are for grad school? Mine were getting a 4.0 GPA, creating better work habits, and graduating with my Master's a year early :)
The line, with which you started off, was just ❤️ thank you. And being nervous is definitely an understatement for the new phase in life. 😅
Your videos are just so practical and organized, thank you so much! :)
I'm so happy that you were able to connect with this video! Thank you so much for watching! And I'm excited for your new journey! You got this!
I totally agree! I was so nervous when I started grad school, I feared that I wouldn't be able to keep my 4.0 GPA I had in undergrad. What are your fears?
@@anamarie97 So, how real were your fears? I am asking to get a perspective, please don't take it otherwise. My fear is that I would let the imposter syndrome dominate my already lacking self-confidence.

Great video! Even though I focus on creating teaching tips videos, I so enjoy watching your videos on all the other important parts of grad school and academic life that need to be considered and intentionally worked on. You have such great tips to share on here and in your Facebook group. I’ve really enjoy being part of the community!
That means so much to me! I'm so happy that you are enjoying the community and my content! It really motivates me to keep going!
I start grad school (MPA) in a couple of weeks 👍 Glad I found this video. I am someone who likes to be extra prepared and obsess over what I need to do, so I love this. Nervous and excited!
So glad you found my channel!!! Best wishes this semester! You got this!!!
Amazing Tips! Starting my graduate program this month. Going to be checking your Masterclass today :)
Yessss!!! This is so great! I know you will find a lot of tips and actionable steps in the masterclass!
So excited for you!! Are you nervous? I know the workload in graduate school can be intimidating depending on your major. I personally had 20+ paged syllabi lol but I managed to project plan everything in a way that gave me peace of mind :)
Thank you for creating this channel! I’m so excited that I’m finding you 2 months before my grad program starts!
Perfect timing!! Congratulations on being accepted to your program! Thanks for watching!
I just got accepted into my Master’s program about 3 weeks ago and that’s exactly what I’ve been getting. Radio silence. As far as getting with an advisor to clear me to register for courses, ensuring my financial aid is going through to be able to register, and possibly looking into being a GA even though I had a full time job. Any advice is welcomed and appreciated! Thank you so much!
Congratulations on your acceptance!!! In my experience, faculty get really busy toward the end of the semester. In the spring and summer will be when you'll hear more from them. It may be helpful to reach out to a current grad student in your program to get a good idea of the timeline you can expect.
@@theacademicsociety thank you so much! I have tried setting up an advising appointment with my depart and will try to visit the school this week to see if anything has changed.
@@PeachyYaYa Sounds good! Hopefully you'll get clarity on a timeline to expect things
Thank you for the helpful video! I start my MPH - Epidemiology program at Temple the end of August! Super excited plus nervous. I’m afraid that I’m gonna flunk out like I did with nursing school. The first month in I realized it wasn’t for me, between the lectures, lab and clinicals, it’s was very overwhelming and I couldn’t work! So I’m thankful that my program is online and will be more manageable and a little less overwhelming! Also, side note, has anyone ever told you that you look like Laura from Family Matters ❤
So happy you enjoyed this video! Best wishes in your new program! It sounds like you found a better fit! And I’ve never gotten the Laura comment. But thank you for the compliment!
You’re absolutely right. All the feelings that you described I feel them right now. Thanks for your insights
Oh wow! I'm so glad this video resonated with you!!! Best wishes in grad school!
I loved what you said about accountability measures! What would you say they are? Is there a video that addresses this? Thanks so much for giving us all these amazing tips! I've never felt more prepared.
I actually have a blog post on this topic: www.theacademicsociety.com/gradblog/3-must-haves-for-ultimate-accountability-in-grad-school
Accountability is so important in grad school! I had to rely on myself a lot, I found that the more I stayed organized, project planned, and effectively managed my time, the less stress I felt. The system I created for myself kept me accountable! :) I ended up graduated with my Master's in 1 year and with honors. You can do the same!! :)
I'm so glad I found this video. I'm starting my Master's at the University of Florida in a couple of days, so this will definitely be beneficial. I'm likely going to keep coming back to this channel for my tips for success.
That's wonderful! Congratulations on being accepted!! Best wishes this semester!
This is Social Work. All of this. I love it.
@@nelliajanellia I don't but I have an accountability program for graduate students. It's called Focus. Here's the link if you are interested or want to share: www.theacademicsociety.com/focus
I just watched 4 Grad videos in the past hour. lol I start Grad school this fall, I am so nervous!!!!!!
Thank you so much for the insight and wanting to help people! A tiny bit of constructive criticism though, you kind of talk in circles. You hit the same point 2 or 3 times before you actually convey what you're trying to say, and it can be very distracting. Just wanted to point that out for future videos! Much love, support, and thanks for your help in this journey!!
Thanks! It's definitely my style to reiterate what I'm saying multiple times. It's helpful for my students when I teach
I found this video by searching "grad school vlog" and i really enjoyed it. i am starting my masters degree this fall in library science and just posted a video on my page talking about choosing a grad school! would love to see you do something like that next, but congrats and i look forward to seeing more content from you. :-)
I have one question, I start grad school(chemistry PhD) in september but ive taken a year off and feel like ive forgotten a fair bit of what i learned. Do I you suggest i do some review over these couple months before going in?
I definitely recommend reviewing some materials. I would ask what classes a first year PhD student usually takes and brush up on the topics you've forgotten. You may be able to get some textbooks early too!
What is a good way of getting syllabuses before the term begins? Is just by contacting profs?
I would start with the person in the office to ask if they have a website/database of old syllabi. After that, I would contact the professor to ask if they could share the syllabus from last semester.
@@theacademicsociety Ok that's a good idea and will do. Thanks for sharing!
I like só much your videos.
First!!
I’m 53 and going back to grad school. So happy I found your channel. Keep up the great work!❤️🤗
I love it!!! You totally go this!!! Also, I'm so impressed with you!
