But at the same time he got what he deserved as you fuck with drugs you will get what you deserve. no sympathy or do you have the same level of sympathy for the unknown junkie.. definitely not..

Watched this with my kids recently and I cried at the end during the line “you never have friends as good as you did when you were 12”. So damn true. Great movie. Great book. Great memories
This is one of my favorite movies ever. It has so many elements to it, some dark, some funny, a child's perspective and also the adult perspective. It has an amazing soundtrack too, I listened to it a lot as a kid.
When I was 13, my three other friends and I decided to run away together because we had bad families. I remember we had to go through woods for ages and ages until we finally crossed the state boarder and we went to live with my uncle in Vermont. This film always reminds me of our journey and my friends. I remember my best friend always motivated me into becoming a movie director so they always made me think of Chris. They sadly died though a few years later. One of the other two friends sadly passed away too from an accident and the last one I’ve lost contact with. It’s sad but that all happened in 1970…

I don't expect you to understand this yet, but hollywood and our schools basically write and teach from the philosophies of communism, and that hates free enterprise. So they push arts, and anything that is not productive, and bash shop classes, because it was the factories in the USA that got us out of poverty. My old high school , (Scottville Michigan), got rid of the shop classes after our elected started shipping our production to communism in china. But I went on to earn a machine tool associates degree and 2 engineering degrees anyway while I was flipping burgers and working in machine shops. Because of the outsourcing to communism in china, I never got myself much above poverty, (I did not work in a union shop, so I got skill from my employers) until I started my own business/shop. The truth is "production or poverty". Always was, always will be. I also almost flunked HS, but during the last 2 years of my engineering study, I became the sharpest guy in the class. That lesson is about your brain. The more you work it out, (like your body), the better it gets. I have a good friend a bit older than me who actually started 2 factories (left one to start the 2nd), and he makes all the gas tanks and fenders for Indian Motorcycles in Lowell Michigan. Has 35 people working for him, (opportunity for them too), which means he keeps those fine folks out of poverty too. No artist could ever do that, and a engineer/factory built every piece of equipment hollywood uses. My opinion? Don't let them talk you into arts and crafts or anything that is not productive. communism is a really dirty trick. I just have a little shop in a 4 car shop that I have lived from for 18 years now. But I have more capability than what Henry Ford started out with. We are not as free as we used to be to make it easier to grow now though. Individual liberty and free enterprise,--that is what is being stolen from us, and why they don't want you to be productive with your own mind. This movie reminds me of being a kid and running around town and the woods with my brother and couple of friends. We would ride our bikes all over town, get into all sorts of trouble or adventure. We had our parents, but for someone who really understood you as a kid, we only had each other.
Yup, when kid's were FREE to walk about by themselves, and not have to worry about "the buggy man" trying to pick em up in car's, I grew up in the 70s now when you See kids, they are never off, their damm smart phones, they don't use their information, like we did, when things, were Sooo much simpler, and not overly complicated, as they are today sadly. 🇬🇧
Saw this as a kid when our babysitter secretly let us watch it after our parents left. One of the best movies ever made in my lifetime. I danced to the song Stand by Me at my wedding with my now deceased wife. She whisper sang the words into my ear the whole time. It was the only time I ever heard her sing. To this day I cannot watch the movie or get through the song without breaking down. But, that's my problem. And the movie is still amazing
"Stand By Me" is one of my all time favorite mid 1980's films alongwith the Goonies! And the fact that it's based off of Stephen King's novel "The Body" is one of the many things that makes it interesting! Hell Brownsville Oregon the town that was used to simulate Castle Rock has a Stand By Me film festival every year since the movie put the town on the map in terms of tourism, They even had a 1959 penny embedded into the pavement of the street where Vern finds a penny near the end of the movie!
I saw the goonies house in April it’s painted a different color now but we found it it’s in Astoria Oregon near the Washington state Oregon state border

The rail road tracks they filmed on are now a hiking/biking path. It's a really great trail. Makes you feel like you are back in the films setting. I love the movie and the short story too.
What has always amazed me about this film is its runtime, clocking in at only an hour and a half, probably because the details of the journey or maybe the way the movie was shot, it feels a lot longer then it is.
I used to watch this film with my cousin every summer. He had a neighbor that would come over and watch with us that reminded us of Vern. I always think about him when I watch Stand By Me. A few years ago my cousin contacted me and said our friend, his former neighbor, had hanged himself in a shed after a battle with severe addiction. I'd ran into him at a department store not 3 or 4 months before and he seemed totally fine. It was quite a shock. When I watch Stand By Me now, it holds up better than ever. Each scene takes on even more melancholy, but it still so balanced and sweet. Great film.
Wil Wheaton is one of my favorite public figures due his absolute candor and genuineness. Also love that his costar Jerry O'Connell voices a character on Star Trek Lower Decks, putting them both into that universe. I read all of Stephen King's stuff growing up in the 80s and I do remember Different Seasons being generally one of the most enjoyable books. It's not surprising the two best adaptations came from it.
I always forget about John Cusack in that movie. This movie always makes me think of my own childhood friends. One of which went down the road of drugs and alcohol. He ODed and died seven or eight years after graduating high school on drugs he got from his father. I still miss him sometimes. His death was such a waste.
This movie rocks. Rob Reiner lost his touch, which is a shame, because his early movies are impressive like this, Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, A Few Good Men, and American President
His streak from Spinal Tap to A Few Good Men is legendary. North really screwed things up. Never quite the same after, although American President is good.

One thing I think makes this film great is that the boys are trekking into the woods to find the body of another boy hit by a train. There is the anticipation, the build up over the course of the entire film and finally when the moment comes the corpse is only on film for a split second. I didn't appreciate it until years later. I think with this film the journey was the destination.
This is a special movie, i never knew quite why but after the first time i seen it i always had to prepare myself to watch it anytime after that. I would have to prepare myself mentally for what i was about to watch. I grew up next to some train tracks and this movie scared me away from the tracks for years thinking i would find a body.

It's funny you mention the song getting a resurgence after the movie. I remember hearing the song alot in the 80s and wondering how an oldie got so popular. I hadn't seen or heard of the movie until I was much older.
I saw this when it came out. I was the same age as the boys in the movie, about to make that move into jr. high where we'd be grouped on ability (like Gordy, all the kids I was friends with weren't going to be in my classes). At the time there was a bit of controversy over the language used by the boys throughout the movie. But upon seeing it, I'll tell you that it was the only movie I'd ever seen where kids spoke the way my friends and I did when grown ups weren't around. Also like Gordy, my best friend at the time was from a rough home. Really rough. Unlike Chris he didn't get the chance to even try to tough it out in the advanced classes. His older brother had such a reputation that before he even arrived at the school he was viewed as being just like that older brother. We drifted apart before we even made it to high school. He dropped out of school in 9th grade or so, got a girl pregnant, made some bad choices. He did a stretch in prison, 7 years from what I heard. He got out about two years ago I think. As a 12-year old boy watching this movie I really related to all four of the boys. When it got a 35th anniversary release with Fathom Events a couple years ago I took my kids to it. As that same 12-year old boy now in his late-40's looking back, I really relate to the grown up Gordy that Richard Dreyfuss delivered. Regardless of what I may or may not think of Rob Reiner and his body of work as a whole today, there is no denying that Stand By Me and The Princess Bride both belong on any list of great movies of all time.
That soundtrack was in my tape deck for ages after that movie came out. It's still on my top 10 of best soundtracks of all time. ❤️ this movie was everything to me as a teen. Different seasons is truly one of Steven Kings best at least imo... Rita Hayworth and shawshank redemption, the body, apt pupil all made into movies and I always liked the breathing method. Great book to check out and a lot more material in the book obviously than the movies.
I remember getting into trouble in elementary school in Texas for reading most of King's work. King was one of the greats that made me a voracious reader. Regrettably, adults will be adults, and even after my parents gave me permission, the school still did their best to prevent me from reading the mature content during school hours.
This is one of my all time favorite movies, maybe #1. One thing that makes it so good is the child acting. Normally the kids in a movie just cant hang and in this one they all hit homeruns and it's a must because the kids are the whole movie. It amazes me how good Phoenix and Feldman are in this movie and for different reasons they never got to show their chops as acting adults. Would love to see Feldman get to do some type of career defining role and win an Oscar.
I agree, fully. River was also great in Explorers and we sadly lost him too soon. Feldman deserves a lot, I could not imagine losing two of your best friends and going through the torturous years he did. RDJ had 2 chances for redemption, where is Feldman's?
One of my favorite movies as a kid. Got introduced through Cable when it played on tnt in the 90s and I never forgot it, and as soon as I could get a copy I did.
This film wasn't just based off of Stephen King's the body. It was based off of something he did as a child. I remember reading it in a biography of his. It said he walked out of the theater after the premier and almost fainted because it brought back so many memories.
wen i was about six yrs old in 1986 on a rainy day my mom let me skip school and we went to a mid day movie, stand by me. up until then i had ben obsessed with cool knifes and swords..lol but wen i saw river phoenix with that colt 1911 he swiped off his dad i knew i had to have one someday. the movie brings back a flood of memories from the 1980s. im grateful that my mom took her six year old to an r rated movie. rest in peace mom. oh and i got my colt 1911a1 a ww2 army model made in 1942. its a prized possession of mine.
I don't get the 'WTF Happened to" thumbnail titles. Stand by Me, for instance, was a movie from the 80's that came out, did well, and then other movies came out. Time is linear, it doesn't stand still, so everything is in the past - thought this was obvious. Now, if your title was "Stand by Me was a great movie from the 80's" - that would make more sense.
Movie reminds me of my childhood. Everything back then to a kid was unknown and you couldn't look it up on the internet. The world was a mystery and we were young explorers.

In 1980 my favorite film became THE GREAT SANTINI starring Robert Duvall. In 1982 that film was replaced by ET THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL. Then in 1986 ET was replaced by STAND BY ME. Which has been my favorite film ever since. It reminds me of the friends l had growing up and how they encouraged my own writing. I lost my best friend over 20 years ago, but this movie makes me feel like l did when we were kids.
We had the edited for tv version on VHS, complete with commercial breaks, that my sister and I watched endlessly in the 80s. When I finally did see the R rated version, it was insane to suddenly hear all the cursing. "Chopper, sic balls!" was "Chopper, sic kid!"
If this movie was redone it just wouldn't have the same impact it did. I think it would be difficult for a lot of kids now to relate to actually going outside and doing all these things. The 80s/90s were a special time to be a young man and even though this film was set in the late 1950s, a lot of the elements were similar. A simpler time, where you actually spent time with friends instead of online with them. I'm glad I got to experience this same type of camaraderie growing up. The innocent sense of immortality, where one summer lasted a lifetime. I may never have that feeling again, but knowing that I did at one time is enough to know what it meant to be truly alive.
That's stupid. I didn't spend a lot of time outside, born in 90 and this is my number one favourite film. Has been for about 20 years. There are many themes for people to relate to in this, though I don't want it remade.

Steven King is a legit crazy man. He can write though. The movies usually don’t hold a candle to the books. He did say he liked the ending of the movie The Mist starring Thomas Jane better than what he wrote in his story. That was a good movie.
I would wager he is literally demon possessed; as is most of hollywood and most liberals and many many politicians. Before you write me off just stop and think.... are they REALLY about taking ALL religion out of courts, schools, etc. or just one... specific one? They false claim Christianity is bigoted and hateful... they hate gays ... which is furthest from the truth. If that was really their basis then why don't they go after Muslims? All other roads lead to destruction and the demons know it. Their goal is singular and that is to take as many humans to the Lake of Fire as they possibly can! They also know their time is very short and that is why things seem to be 'ramping' up all over the world. You see, the devil is actually the ruler of this planet, for now. He has the title deed for the Earth but it won't be his for much longer. Jesus is returning and soon and then the (soon to be arriving on the scene) antichrist and the false prophet will be thrown alive in the Lake of Fire and thus begins the 1000 year reign of Jesus here, on this Earth. During those 1000 years, the devil will be chained in the abyss, but not yet thrown into the Lake of Fire (where his other 2 cohorts are). After the 1000 years he will be released and then he will again deceive the nations (think, 1000 years of mostly peace, with Jesus ruling over the planet. It is not perfect, yet, man still has his free will to choose... and even after seeing and maybe even talking with and being in his company, he will STILL choose evil and rebellion and satan will gladly enlist them into his last folly of an attack). He (the devil) will gather all the nations and attempt to attack Jesus but they will all be slain and then the Great White Throne judgment will happen and all of those whose names are not in the book of life will be cast into the Lake of Fire and in that place there will not be parties, the devil will NOT be in charge... in fact, he will be the chief victim in that place. You don't have to go there, all you have to do is ask Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, ask Him to enter into your heart, show you His love and His mercy so when you take your last breath on this planet you will have a smile on your face because you know the next breath will be before Him in His Kingdom! Please don't be with the world; the world is dying. Be with Jesus!
What I find crazy about SBM that I never thought of before, is how River Phoenix's character gets killed in the end years down the line. Not by Ace or anyone in his gang either, a random fight he tries to separate. Then in reality all the actors go on to live good lives("No really. The fat kid from SBM married Rebecca Romijin. Doesn't that make you mad!?"), While Phoenix, as we know, goes and dies in LA.
Same here. I was fourteen when the movie came out. The movie was a spot on depiction of how me and my friends acted around each other. We definitely would have ventured off in pursuit of a dead body if given the opportunity. The line “friends come in and out of your life like busboys in a restaurant” got me thinking as a kid…but I didn’t fully understand the significance of it until later in life. Still love the movie after all these years…maybe even more than I did as a kid. The ending still gets me every single time.

I liked the 1986 movie "The Wraith" with Charlie Sheen a lot better. (despite it being a bit cheesy 🧀 in ways) It became a cult classic & is actually free to watch on UA-cam. I sooooo wanted the Honda XL motorcycle in the movie & of course the Dode MK4 Interceptor.
I guess they forgot to mention that this movie is where Rob Reiner got the name of his production company Castle Rock Entertainment from. It's the name of one of Stephen King's primary fictional Maine towns.
This might be an unpopular opinion. But even when I was a little kid and still to this day, the Pie eating contest scene is the one scene in that movie that I can honestly do without. I always felt it was weirdly out of place and just felt weird and unnecessary
That's fair. It's totally gross out humor. I think it worked a bit better in the context of the actual Stephen King story. Before I got a chance to read it, my dad was laughing his head off while reading it. Reading probably allows people to use their imagination better for it.
Most people will say T2, Lion King or some other big movie is their favorite but Stand By Me is that movie for me. There's no movie that tells a complete compelling story and keeps your attention through the whole movie. I can't find a movie to take it's place because it seems it's irreplaceable. I can't completely relate to the characters but in a way I can relate to them all especially Gordy.
I once found a dead body in the woods. The incident always reminded me of this movie from my childhood. I think everybody should experience finding a dead body in the woods. Just don't be a dead body in the woods yourself.
In my top 5 movies. The scenery is gorgeous. I love how gordie remembers his brother. Had to read the book when in the junkyard they mention Teddy and a tree. In the book Teddy falls out of a tree and Chris grabs him by the hair and saves his life.
It upsets me that Corey Feldman bullied Will. There is much evidence that his behaviour hasn't changed as an adult. The interviews with people he's worked with tell similar stories. He strikes me as a jealous creature. He portrays himself as a professional victim but victimises others. That is something that maturity should fix. Sad to Feldman is a lost cause. Glad someone stood up to him. Bullys should not be tolerated.
Great great movie. Whenever Steven King annoys me to death on Twitter, I think about this movie and realize that he isn't all that bad :) River was my brother in arms growing up. Rip sweet River.
Both Stand By Me and Apt Pupil were better than the originals. One would have to pay me to watch The Shawshank Redemption because I could not get through Rita Hayworth and TSR. Yeah, I said "Apt Pupil".

I bought the book Different Seasons when it came out ... I didn't realize it was short stories. I still have it 40 years later. I always recognize it because it was orange.
Easily one of the greatest coming of age films and stories ever conceived. The young cast was just perfect & had a beautiful chemistry. While the Adrian Lynne version would’ve been interesting, Rob Reiner was the right choice to helm this movie; same when he directed Misery 4 years later
I think the first time I saw this movie was right before Netflix was created, when cable TV was the only way to watch a movie outside of pay-per-view and, obviously, VHS. Of course, the profanity was edited out when it was on TV but I still had to watch it with my mom, but it was still one of the most interesting movies I'd seen at the time and remains one of the best 80s movies out there. Love it

For me it remains a movie fan and film critic as the best coming of age film hollywood has ever made. I have a good friend a bit older than me who actually started 2 factories (left one to start the 2nd), and he makes all the gas tanks and fenders for Indian Motorcycles in Lowell Michigan. Has 35 people working for him, (opportunity for them too), which means he keeps those fine folks out of poverty too. No artist could ever do that, and a engineer/factory built every piece of equipment hollywood uses. My opinion? Don't let them talk you into arts and crafts or anything that is not productive. communism is a really dirty trick. I just have a little shop in a 4 car shop that I have lived from for 18 years now. But I have more capability than what Henry Ford started out with. We are not as free as we used to be to make it easier to grow now though. This movie reminds me of being a kid and running around town and the woods with my brother and couple of friends. We would ride our bikes all over town, get into all sorts of trouble or adventure. We had our parents, but for someone who really understood you as a kid, we only had each other.

Yup, when kid's were FREE to walk about by themselves, and not have to worry about "the buggy man" trying to pick em up in car's, I grew up in the 70s now when you See kids, they are never off, their damm smart phones, they don't use their information, like we did, when things, were Sooo much simpler, and not overly complicated, as they are today sadly. 🇬🇧

Saw this as a kid when our babysitter secretly let us watch it after our parents left. One of the best movies ever made in my lifetime. I danced to the song Stand by Me at my wedding with my now deceased wife. She whisper sang the words into my ear the whole time. It was the only time I ever heard her sing. To this day I cannot watch the movie or get through the song without breaking down.
But, that's my problem. And the movie is still amazing

"Stand By Me" is one of my all time favorite mid 1980's films alongwith the Goonies! And the fact that it's based off of Stephen King's novel "The Body" is one of the many things that makes it interesting!
Hell Brownsville Oregon the town that was used to simulate Castle Rock has a Stand By Me film festival every year since the movie put the town on the map in terms of tourism, They even had a 1959 penny embedded into the pavement of the street where Vern finds a penny near the end of the movie!
I saw the goonies house in April it’s painted a different color now but we found it it’s in Astoria Oregon near the Washington state Oregon state border

The rail road tracks they filmed on are now a hiking/biking path. It's a really great trail. Makes you feel like you are back in the films setting. I love the movie and the short story too.
What has always amazed me about this film is its runtime, clocking in at only an hour and a half, probably because the details of the journey or maybe the way the movie was shot, it feels a lot longer then it is.

I used to watch this film with my cousin every summer. He had a neighbor that would come over and watch with us that reminded us of Vern. I always think about him when I watch Stand By Me. A few years ago my cousin contacted me and said our friend, his former neighbor, had hanged himself in a shed after a battle with severe addiction. I'd ran into him at a department store not 3 or 4 months before and he seemed totally fine. It was quite a shock. When I watch Stand By Me now, it holds up better than ever. Each scene takes on even more melancholy, but it still so balanced and sweet. Great film.
Wil Wheaton is one of my favorite public figures due his absolute candor and genuineness. Also love that his costar Jerry O'Connell voices a character on Star Trek Lower Decks, putting them both into that universe.
I read all of Stephen King's stuff growing up in the 80s and I do remember Different Seasons being generally one of the most enjoyable books. It's not surprising the two best adaptations came from it.

I always forget about John Cusack in that movie. This movie always makes me think of my own childhood friends. One of which went down the road of drugs and alcohol. He ODed and died seven or eight years after graduating high school on drugs he got from his father. I still miss him sometimes. His death was such a waste.

I am 60 years old now, and I finally figured out why hollywood and our following culture bad mouthed kids in shop classes, then and now. I don't expect you to understand this yet, but hollywood and our schools basically write and teach from the philosophies of communism, and that hates free enterprise. So they push arts, and anything that is not productive, and bash shop classes, because it was the factories in the USA that got us out of poverty. My old high school , (Scottville Michigan), got rid of the shop classes after our elected started shipping our production to communism in china. I love movies that have bonding that feels relatable and non forced acting
One thing I think makes this film great is that the boys are trekking into the woods to find the body of another boy hit by a train. There is the anticipation, the build up over the course of the entire film and finally when the moment comes the corpse is only on film for a split second. I didn't appreciate it until years later. I think with this film the journey was the destination.

This is a special movie, i never knew quite why but after the first time i seen it i always had to prepare myself to watch it anytime after that. I would have to prepare myself mentally for what i was about to watch. I grew up next to some train tracks and this movie scared me away from the tracks for years thinking i would find a body.

It's funny you mention the song getting a resurgence after the movie. I remember hearing the song alot in the 80s and wondering how an oldie got so popular. I hadn't seen or heard of the movie until I was much older.

I saw this when it came out. I was the same age as the boys in the movie, about to make that move into jr. high where we'd be grouped on ability (like Gordy, all the kids I was friends with weren't going to be in my classes). At the time there was a bit of controversy over the language used by the boys throughout the movie. But upon seeing it, I'll tell you that it was the only movie I'd ever seen where kids spoke the way my friends and I did when grown ups weren't around.
Also like Gordy, my best friend at the time was from a rough home. Really rough. Unlike Chris he didn't get the chance to even try to tough it out in the advanced classes. His older brother had such a reputation that before he even arrived at the school he was viewed as being just like that older brother. We drifted apart before we even made it to high school. He dropped out of school in 9th grade or so, got a girl pregnant, made some bad choices. He did a stretch in prison, 7 years from what I heard. He got out about two years ago I think.
As a 12-year old boy watching this movie I really related to all four of the boys. When it got a 35th anniversary release with Fathom Events a couple years ago I took my kids to it. As that same 12-year old boy now in his late-40's looking back, I really relate to the grown up Gordy that Richard Dreyfuss delivered. Regardless of what I may or may not think of Rob Reiner and his body of work as a whole today, there is no denying that Stand By Me and The Princess Bride both belong on any list of great movies of all time.
That soundtrack was in my tape deck for ages after that movie came out. It's still on my top 10 of best soundtracks of all time. ❤️ this movie was everything to me as a teen. Different seasons is truly one of Steven Kings best at least imo... Rita Hayworth and shawshank redemption, the body, apt pupil all made into movies and I always liked the breathing method. Great book to check out and a lot more material in the book obviously than the movies.
I remember getting into trouble in elementary school in Texas for reading most of King's work. King was one of the greats that made me a voracious reader. Regrettably, adults will be adults, and even after my parents gave me permission, the school still did their best to prevent me from reading the mature content during school hours.
This is one of my all time favorite movies, maybe #1. One thing that makes it so good is the child acting. Normally the kids in a movie just cant hang and in this one they all hit homeruns and it's a must because the kids are the whole movie. It amazes me how good Phoenix and Feldman are in this movie and for different reasons they never got to show their chops as acting adults. Would love to see Feldman get to do some type of career defining role and win an Oscar.

This film wasn't just based off of Stephen King's the body. It was based off of something he did as a child. I remember reading it in a biography of his. It said he walked out of the theater after the premier and almost fainted because it brought back so many memories.

I don't get the 'WTF Happened to" thumbnail titles. Stand by Me, for instance, was a movie from the 80's that came out, did well, and then other movies came out. Time is linear, it doesn't stand still, so everything is in the past - thought this was obvious. Now, if your title was "Stand by Me was a great movie from the 80's" - that would make more sense.

In 1980 my favorite film became THE GREAT SANTINI starring Robert Duvall. In 1982 that film was replaced by ET THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL. Then in 1986 ET was replaced by STAND BY ME. Which has been my favorite film ever since. It reminds me of the friends l had growing up and how they encouraged my own writing. I lost my best friend over 20 years ago, but this movie makes me feel like l did when we were kids.
We had the edited for tv version on VHS, complete with commercial breaks, that my sister and I watched endlessly in the 80s. When I finally did see the R rated version, it was insane to suddenly hear all the cursing. "Chopper, sic balls!" was "Chopper, sic kid!"
A&E used to air a heavily edited version of this movie.
If this movie was redone it just wouldn't have the same impact it did. I think it would be difficult for a lot of kids now to relate to actually going outside and doing all these things. The 80s/90s were a special time to be a young man and even though this film was set in the late 1950s, a lot of the elements were similar. A simpler time, where you actually spent time with friends instead of online with them. I'm glad I got to experience this same type of camaraderie growing up. The innocent sense of immortality, where one summer lasted a lifetime. I may never have that feeling again, but knowing that I did at one time is enough to know what it meant to be truly alive.
That's stupid. I didn't spend a lot of time outside, born in 90 and this is my number one favourite film. Has been for about 20 years. There are many themes for people to relate to in this, though I don't want it remade.

Steven King is a legit crazy man. He can write though. The movies usually don’t hold a candle to the books. He did say he liked the ending of the movie The Mist starring Thomas Jane better than what he wrote in his story. That was a good movie.

He has the title deed for the Earth but it won't be his for much longer. Jesus is returning and soon and then the (soon to be arriving on the scene) antichrist and the false prophet will be thrown alive in the Lake of Fire and thus begins the 1000 year reign of Jesus here, on this Earth. During those 1000 years, the devil will be chained in the abyss, but not yet thrown into the Lake of Fire (where his other 2 cohorts are). After the 1000 years he will be released and then he will again deceive the nations (think, 1000 years of mostly peace, with Jesus ruling over the planet. It is not perfect, yet, man still has his free will to choose... and even after seeing and maybe even talking with and being in his company, he will STILL choose evil and rebellion and satan will gladly enlist them into his last folly of an attack). He (the devil) will gather all the nations and attempt to attack Jesus but they will all be slain and then the Great White Throne judgment will happen and all of those whose names are not in the book of life will be cast into the Lake of Fire and in that place there will not be parties, the devil will NOT be in charge... in fact, he will be the chief victim in that place. You don't have to go there, all you have to do is ask Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, ask Him to enter into your heart, show you His love and His mercy so when you take your last breath on this planet you will have a smile on your face because you know the next breath will be before Him in His Kingdom! Please don't be with the world; the world is dying. Be with Jesus!

What I find crazy about SBM that I never thought of before, is how River Phoenix's character gets killed in the end years down the line. Not by Ace or anyone in his gang either, a random fight he tries to separate. Then in reality all the actors go on to live good lives("No really. The fat kid from SBM married Rebecca Romijin. Doesn't that make you mad!?"), While Phoenix, as we know, goes and dies in LA.

Same here. I was fourteen when the movie came out. The movie was a spot on depiction of how me and my friends acted around each other. We definitely would have ventured off in pursuit of a dead body if given the opportunity. The line “friends come in and out of your life like busboys in a restaurant” got me thinking as a kid…but I didn’t fully understand the significance of it until later in life. Still love the movie after all these years…maybe even more than I did as a kid. The ending still gets me every single time.

I liked the 1986 movie "The Wraith" with Charlie Sheen a lot better. (despite it being a bit cheesy 🧀 in ways) It became a cult classic & is actually free to watch on UA-cam. I sooooo wanted the Honda XL motorcycle in the movie & of course the Dode MK4 Interceptor.

This might be an unpopular opinion. But even when I was a little kid and still to this day, the Pie eating contest scene is the one scene in that movie that I can honestly do without. I always felt it was weirdly out of place and just felt weird and unnecessary
That's fair. It's totally gross out humor. I think it worked a bit better in the context of the actual Stephen King story. Before I got a chance to read it, my dad was laughing his head off while reading it. Reading probably allows people to use their imagination better for it.

Most people will say T2, Lion King or some other big movie is their favorite but Stand By Me is that movie for me. There's no movie that tells a complete compelling story and keeps your attention through the whole movie. I can't find a movie to take it's place because it seems it's irreplaceable. I can't completely relate to the characters but in a way I can relate to them all especially Gordy.

In my top 5 movies. The scenery is gorgeous. I love how gordie remembers his brother. Had to read the book when in the junkyard they mention Teddy and a tree. In the book Teddy falls out of a tree and Chris grabs him by the hair and saves his life.

It upsets me that Corey Feldman bullied Will. There is much evidence that his behaviour hasn't changed as an adult. The interviews with people he's worked with tell similar stories. He strikes me as a jealous creature. He portrays himself as a professional victim but victimises others. That is something that maturity should fix. Sad to Feldman is a lost cause. Easily one of the greatest coming of age films and stories ever conceived. The young cast was just perfect & had a beautiful chemistry. While the Adrian Lynne version would’ve been interesting, Rob Reiner was the right choice to helm this movie; same when he directed Misery 4 years later

I think the first time I saw this movie was right before Netflix was created, when cable TV was the only way to watch a movie outside of pay-per-view and, obviously, VHS. Of course, the profanity was edited out when it was on TV but I still had to watch it with my mom, but it was still one of the most interesting movies I'd seen at the time and remains one of the best 80s movies out there. Love it
Well done documentary behind the movie- as for stand by me review by Jeffery Lyons’ fellow film critic who said it best “ the kinda film I thought Hollywood forgot how to make/. For me it remains a movie fan and film critic as the best coming of age film hollywood has ever made. While I grew up in the 1970s there is a realistic capture of people we know like the characters regardless of the generation we grew up.
You'd be surprised how many people relate to this movie...and I don't mean how many people like it. Every one knows this is an 80's classic. I mean the amount of people who see similarities in their childhood with the characters in the movie.
I watched a film locations video that said the campfire, leaches and where they found the body scenes were all shot in the same area. How do you know the campfire scene was in a studio
