The Wire is split in between '02-'05 '05-08 Bodie made up from the first into the last he was around the older heads like Avon and Stringerbell to seeing the young men rise like Marlo and even seeing the new kids on the block mike, dookie, randy etc etc.
Nah, they're just surprised. Marlo in this scene represents realism[well the wire is always realistic for the most part] In a lot of shows when two characters don't like each other and one of them dies you see sort of an "admiration" of the other person. In real life, that would never happen and they would be glad that said person was dead. Like Marlo does. Imagine finding out a guy that has been out to kill you has died, you'd feel relieved.
I just noticed Chris' face for the first time, It's a mixture of relief, unbelief and sadness. I think Omar was a worthy opponent for him. To kill Omar would've meant his name would ring even louder because of who Omar was. To be killed by him meant he would've died with street cred. But to have him killed by a kid meant that this worthy opponent went out without even a fight and he could maybe go out that same way.
Yea I think they were kinda spooked an notice how Chris never mentioned to Marlo that Omar was talkin shit about him cuz Chris knew it's easier for Omar to catch them slippin rather them catching him I peeped all that shit!!!
I see what you mean, Omar deserved a warrior death. They blew that chance to make his death meaningful. Kind of how snoop died, the student kill the teacher!!
People talk about how the "My name is my name" scene is the only time Marlo shows true emotion, but in this scene, you can hear the sheer relief and elation in his voice that he doesn't have to worry about Omar anymore.
the funny part is like omar died, am happy, then you discover he left a nasty memo; in case of my death tell everybody i called marlo a punk. am curious, if marlo never found out, would he think he was a legend like omar and barksdale?
Bruh did anybody notice how Omar’s kill list had the exact location of everyone? If he didn’t die who’s to say he could’ve took them all out by himself. Omar was a different type of hunter.
Omar was still a beast, a king of the streets. Sadly, as the kid showed, the streets is dead. What replaced it is a monstrous existence not even the old boys would recognized.
Yeah it just adds to how much Marlo is able to avoid death, if Stringer never snitched on Avon Marlo body would have been shredded into pieces at that warehouse with all that heavy artillery they were coming with, then he was able to avoid Omar, the co op didn’t push his top back then he avoided doing major time in prison, now that I think about it Marlo may have just been the smartest criminal on the show.🤔
the assumption of it being “a professional job” shows how much the police force thought and expected of omar even when the other detective cracks a joke and Bunk doesn’t laugh like he has before because he realizes who this dead body is and when he found out it was it a kid he knew that omar had the kind of heart to not look twice at a kid and it’s the only way he would get knocked down. the way the detectives know and understand the people on the “other team” is impressive
Marlo didn't know Kenard's name - he was just some young boy who killed just because. Marlo ended up finding out people on the streets didn't know who he was. And he had a lot of people killed, just because. He's describing himself when he talks about Kenard, but he doesn't even know it.
@@donc7984 No he didn't, if that was the case than Michael wouldn't have told people that Kenard did it. Otherwise that would be wayyy out of character. Kenard did it because he felt underwhelmed after seeing Omar injured.

"Hopper wanna hear a pop, see the damage you know?" This is my favorite line of any tv show. "WHOOO?!" "Ain't heard a name, don't even know if there was a Why!" I love the dialogue in the wire, it's second to none. Along with the body language and facial expressions.
I'm south african film maker. What really fascinated me about this series is how some of these cops actually cared about some the guys in "the game". McNulty and Bodie and this case. It's like they understood why these guys got into the game and looked at who they are instead of what they did for a living..
I don't think Omar got a chance to pay him. I vaguely remember in one of the last episodes, the hopper that killed Omar getting put into a police Vehicle cuffed up.
Kevin Qujada How the *FUCK* was Omar the primary character? He didn't get introduced until the third episode and died 3 episodes before the finale. The closest thing this show had to a main character was McNulty.
Blake Lee - you got a point there, the way the writers wrote Duckie's ending was very, very sad. But Bodie is and will always be the hardest TV death I've ever experienced.
Funniest part about this scene is Marlo brushing off Omar as if he was never to be taken serious when Chris and Snoop literally almost died trying to get him
Conor Doyle Michael becomes the new Omar at the end so that would make sense. Omar always walked around with a shotgun mostly. this show is so underrated it’s ridiculous. This is probably one of the realest shows ever made.
I know the comments here are from a year ago but im surprised you guys missed the whole new generation thing that was going on. Mikchael became the robber of drug dealers with a shotgun(Omar). Duquan became a homeless junkie (Bubbles). Chris was the right hand man who took blame for the boss and went to prision (Wee-Bey). Marlo being the kingpin who went legit(Stringer). Though in Marlo's case he succeded in surviving Omar BUT he also is wants absolute power like (Barksdale) and realizes he lost it in the final scene where the street kids tell him they dont know who he is. Namond is the kid who's mother forces him in to drug dealing (D'Angelo). And so on
The crazy thing about this, is it represents reality and the fragility of all humans. Even the great Omar was gunned down by an untrained little kid. And then a bunch of no names came in robbed and took things from his pocket.Teaches you about being humble
Best line in the show is when Marlo explains the context behind this: "hopper wanna hear a pop, see the damage, y'know?" Chris and Snoop are shocked but Marlo had that "any day can be my last" mentality and that's how it is for anyone breathing in the streets.
@Eric Johnson I wouldn't say "major". He is just seen doing it. Tony Soprano on the other hand has openly stated that he was chasing the thrill of winning when he confided in Carmela.
if you think about it, kenard also says something about omar after the scene where omar talks to micheal by gunpoint , kenards sees the way micheal is stressed then releifed when the counter ends, after micheal punches out kenad earlier in the series we could see this as this movitation of killing Omar, wanting to have some kind of an edge over Micheal since Micheal beat him indiscriminately when micheal wasnt involved in the situation directly.
"aint heard a name, don't even know if there's a why." marlo don't talk much but when he do he say some cold shit. "do it or don't, but i got some place to be."
@@jumbopaperztv5738 AC would of been Chris's last stop, Marlo smart enough to know that once there is no enemy, only a matter of time until the gaze turns inward

"Hopper wanna hear a pop... see the damage, y'know?" Marlo knows. He *was* that young hopper. I liked the fact that Mister Stanfield, after all of that dust and effort, didn't give a damn how Omar was ended. It was like "And that's that. Chris, you got'cho clothes picked out?" I'm the same way. A result is a result.
Man you think cats ain’t listening to Chris Partlow. I’m sure he could mark anybody aside from Marlo and not have to explain himself. Probably just as feared as Marlo.
The relief on Chris face when he finds out Omar is gone still trips me out just like those few scenes where u can tell Chris actually feared Omar...he's the type that comes off as not being afraid of anything so seeing him like that is a trip but I'm glad they did it to show no matter who u are u ain't immortal...Omar certainly proved that, the looks Bunk gives are also a trip u know he couldn't believe Omar actually could be killed and then to be killed by a 8 year old(i think he was about that old)...when i first saw it ..it pissed me off but it didn't take me long to realize how brilliant it was and though i wanted to see a showdown between him and Marlo(even more so later since i thought Marlo was scared but come to find he didn't even know about Omar's challenge) I'm glad they went with what they did and then thinkin back to that kid being the same one that was playing Omar with his friends and looking up to Omar(until he saw em limpin like Why Y'all So Scare of this Limp asshole?) What Goes Around eh?
Omar had Chris/ Snoop under so much pressure. People in the comments saying Chris was let down when Omar died out of some street gamesmanship, nope he was very relieved lol. Only time he ever appears concerned or scored is when searching for Omar.
Somebody made it look like a setup with those names on that piece of paper. And somebody else came in and robbed him, 'cause Kenard was so shook at what he did himself, that he ran after he shot him.
Here in 2024 and this scene is still crazy. You could see on Chris face he was relieved but lowkey taken aback too. This would be like Lex Luthor finding out Superman wasn’t killed by planet scale threat but a random street punk. He wanted to defeat his top op, but instead was done in with no honor by a no name.
keep thinking it was crazy how he gave the speech to Omar about Kenard and how the kid thought he was some kind of God, and that's who got him damn great writer's
Marlo seemed so nonchalant about it. “That shit is done…” then starts talking about the resupply as if they hadn’t just dedicated the last year to hunting down Omar which is why I always thought Chris had that confused look on his face.
lmao at Marlo all excited for Atlantic City while Chris is bummed about Omar. "Look, Chris, I know you're upset about not getting to have your cool big fight scene, but remember - everything dies, that's a fact. But maybe everything that dies some day comes back." "Yeah, I guess you're right, boss." "You know I am. Now get your make-up on and fix your hair real pretty, and meet me tonight in Atlantic City."
I remember on the DVD commentary they talked about the brutal reality of the Baltimore streets was that someone as infamous as Omar could become just another random toe tag overnight.
I like how Bunk and Norris are all careful with the evidence- that piece of paper until it's time to open it, then bunk just grabs it with his bare hand lol
Chris' face is the purest example of; The Hunter is nothing without the hunt... And both Chris and Omar were hunters... That wasn't relief on his face. That was a daze of disappointment and a mind struggling to comprehend... They say rival enemies tend to have a mutual respect for one another if the rivalry lasts long enough... Omar got taken out by a nobody runt and Chris got his prize taken from him.. His team won the championship, but he was not crowned the MVP. Bitter sweet....
This is extremely great acting but I don't see anyone talking about how great the dialogue was between the law enforcement in this scene it was absolutely GREAT
When I watched The Wire the first time and saw Omar got popped, I literally screamed out “noooooooo”. One of my favorite characters of any show. RIP to the GOAT Michael K Williams
Bunk…after feeling a certain way, picks up the paper and softly shouts “Back on the Hunt were you!?!?” takes me right back to that scene with him and Omar look how far we done fell off ending in Omar spitting in pure disgust of the Truth! People hate when others are right
Kenard killing Omar, seems almost whimsical at first ... little kid gets the best of the scariest stick up man in Baltimore ... but it serves narratively to emphasize the later seasons of the Wire's them of inevitability and the cyclical repetition of the game. Earlier in the show we see Kenard on the street with his friends through the eyes of Bunk Moreland ... he's playing "cops and robbers" with some other kids using sticks as guns, only its more like "robbers and druglords" - Kenard shouts "It's my turn to be Omar" - This shows Kenard looks up to Omar - idolizes him as a street hero, a force of nature, something to emulate. Later on, in the confrontation with Michael, Kenard sees Omar limping - his hero has become fallible... human.... weak. Kenard calls him a "gimpy ass motherfucker" The street resents nothing more than weakness. When Kenard enters the store, Omar barely looks at him - he doesn't recognize the threat. He slipped - and the street was watching ... Kenard, acting as the personification of inevitability in the game ends his life. This hearkens back to Avon in season one telling D'Angelo "The thing is, you only got to fuck up once. Be a little slow, be a little late, just once. And how you ain’t going to never be slow, never be late?" Inevitability. Kenard acting here as the agent of Omar's inevitable conclusion is further appropriate to emphasize the cycle we started to see in season 5. The old guard of Baltimore being slowly replaced with the new, to take their place and play their parts .... Dukie Weems becoming the new Bubbles, Sydnor becoming the new McNulty, Carver morphing into Daniels, and Michael becoming a clone of Omar. Michael was the one who unceremoniously punched the shit out of Kenard for running his mouth, demonstrating his casual treatment of violence to contrast Namond's innate (and very un-Weebay-like) passivity. Kenard shooting Omar also forms a sort of symbolism of getting back at Mike, and foreshadows what will almost inevitably become the fate awaiting Mike at the end of the path he's chosen. Even something so simple, and seemingly flippant as this little kid ending a major character - is actually a probably well thought out and exceedingly tidy bit of narrative by the writers.

To be fair, real gangsters don’t talk as poetic. In real life Marlo would said, sh$t I don’t even F’ing know.
@@jordanbriggs9689 That’s y it’s a television program
@@themoreyouknowfools4974 It's a progrum. A movie.
I'm south african film maker. What really fascinated me about this series is how some of these cops actually cared about some the guys in "the game". McNulty and Bodie and this case. It's like they understood why these guys got into the game and looked at who they are instead of what they did for a living..
"Ain't even heard a name. Don't even know if there was a why."😂
He payed him tho or how else he would know kenard got that 250k
I swear the writers just gace Avon, Omar and Marlo THE best lines across the whole show.
@@lionelsanches8699 did I miss an episode? I never seen him pay Kenard.
@@gotdank I mean if that's one of marlos boys and he had 250k bounty y wouldn't he pay him
I don't think Omar got a chance to pay him. I vaguely remember in one of the last episodes, the hopper that killed Omar getting put into a police Vehicle cuffed up.
Saddeat part of the whole series for me, Omar was easily my favorite
Marc Bolinger ....well maybe he was the primary character? JUST A GUESS
Kevin Qujada How the *FUCK* was Omar the primary character? He didn't get introduced until the third episode and died 3 episodes before the finale. The closest thing this show had to a main character was McNulty.
Nah the saddest part was when Michael and Dukie had to go they separate ways
Blake Lee - you got a point there, the way the writers wrote Duckie's ending was very, very sad. But Bodie is and will always be the hardest TV death I've ever experienced.
I hated Omar !! Lol I think I might be the only one
Funniest part about this scene is Marlo brushing off Omar as if he was never to be taken serious when Chris and Snoop literally almost died trying to get him
So accurate 💯
He didn’t really brush it off it was really a relief. He was more so excited cause he thought snoop and Chris had something to do with it.
I always like to think that the shotgun Mike has at the end of S.5 is Omar's, he just got it from the hopper who took it.
Conor Doyle interesting. I can see that as well.
And so on
@@-BlazeK- namomd gets out though
@IslangDong317 no you're thinking of the walther ppk mozune gave omar to get rid of

Marlo has a way with words lol
That didn't age well
😂😂
He got Folded 😏
The crazy thing about this, is it represents reality and the fragility of all humans. Even the great Omar was gunned down by an untrained little kid. And then a bunch of no names came in robbed and took things from his pocket.Teaches you about being humble
Best line in the show is when Marlo explains the context behind this: "hopper wanna hear a pop, see the damage, y'know?"
Chris and Snoop are shocked but Marlo had that "any day can be my last" mentality and that's how it is for anyone breathing in the streets.
Poor Chris never got that magical trip of a lifetime with Marlo stanfield to Atlantic City
awwww : (
Lmao
😹😹😹
@Eric Johnson I wouldn't say "major". He is just seen doing it. Tony Soprano on the other hand has openly stated that he was chasing the thrill of winning when he confided in Carmela.
@@aliceinthewired Gee whiz!! You Soprano's fans love praising that show on vids about The Wire.
One of the few times that Marlo smiles.
This and his first time talking to Michael are the only examples I can think of
@@VaultRadio Also when talking to Slim and Joe about Chris and Snoop killing the New Yorkers and while watching Chris say goodbye to his wife and kids

the kid that Michael punched out
Yup
fucking Kenard
if you think about it, kenard also says something about omar after the scene where omar talks to micheal by gunpoint , kenards sees the way micheal is stressed then releifed when the counter ends, after micheal punches out kenad earlier in the series we could see this as this movitation of killing Omar, wanting to have some kind of an edge over Micheal since Micheal beat him indiscriminately when micheal wasnt involved in the situation directly.
Kenard sees that the legendary Omar at his weakest point and is not impressed. That's why he killed Omar. Michael had nothing to do with it.
Camron Willis he was about to burn a cat right before kid was sick as fuck
name of the song is "a bay bay" by hurricane chris
ilya Kozlov if you don't know that old ass song you damn sure shouldn't be watching The Wire

I really appreciate these vids, B. Hicks. I just wanted to say that you smart, you loyal, you grateful, and I appreciate that. They didn't want you to put up these vids so you put up these vids. Another one.
I don't hear it this way at all. Marlo as a violent, thoughtless hopper makes very little sense
3:34 Chris mind: somebody killed him before me?
Chris face is the most priceless he like wtf 😂😂😂
What I'm trippin on is how the hell Marlo hear about Omar's death before anyone but not hear abour Omar calling him out?
Monk told him
Man you think cats ain’t listening to Chris Partlow. I’m sure he could mark anybody aside from Marlo and not have to explain himself. Probably just as feared as Marlo.
Chris was surprise asl that some kid was able to get the drop on Omar & he probably realize that anyone can get it if Omar can
Man I wish we could have seen Marlo and Chris in Atlantic City.
“White folk, gangstas and them thugs, Ay Bay Bay”
Snoop always had the good ish on lol.
chris mad cuz he wanna do omar himself
Don Corleone it could have been other way around
Chris and Snoop didn’t believe Omar got smoked by lil kid, they like WTF!
Omar had Chris/ Snoop under so much pressure. People in the comments saying Chris was let down when Omar died out of some street gamesmanship, nope he was very relieved lol. Only time he ever appears concerned or scored is when searching for Omar.
1:31 snoop trying make Chris feel better lol
I love there relationship
Somebody made it look like a setup with those names on that piece of paper. And somebody else came in and robbed him, 'cause Kenard was so shook at what he did himself, that he ran after he shot him.
Nah, that list belongs to omar.
Remember ; i can find your people a whole lot easier then they can find me line?
He meant it
Boy Marlo was so ready for him and Chris to go to Atlantic City together lol
3:33-3:44 Chris's face is the face you make when you walk into a fart trap at the grocery store!💯😐
'hopper wanna hear a pop, see the damage'

Omar knew the game and he knew how it would end.

Bunks face showin anger was prime! Bunk made him promise no more bodies after Omar used his "get out of jail free" card
lmao at Marlo all excited for Atlantic City while Chris is bummed about Omar.
"Look, Chris, I know you're upset about not getting to have your cool big fight scene, but remember - everything dies, that's a fact. But maybe everything that dies some day comes back."
"Yeah, I guess you're right, boss."
"You know I am. Now get your make-up on and fix your hair real pretty, and meet me tonight in Atlantic City."
I remember on the DVD commentary they talked about the brutal reality of the Baltimore streets was that someone as infamous as Omar could become just another random toe tag overnight.
Chris was legit hurt he didnt smoke Omar.
Chris couldn’t have looked any more crushed getting that news. He desperately wanted Omar
The hunter wanted his prized trophy
This is extremely great acting but I don't see anyone talking about how great the dialogue was between the law enforcement in this scene it was absolutely GREAT
Who cares lol it's Omar's scene
One of the few series you can literally watch from beginning to end . Just good writing an good acting . Now all we got is garbage
Marlo all happy, Chris and snoop in disbelief
Putting a person in jail, where their human rights are violated continually, is not obviously better off to me
3:34 that's Chris face when he heard that the real Omar died 😕🥺😞🙏🙏🙏💯❤ R.I.P. Michael K

Chris looked because he wanna the challenge !!!
I read all this and you on the money i agree.
Holy shit this show is deep
Chris' reaction to Omar's death = McNulty's reaction to Stringer's death
