Hello, Just wanted to say thank you i was able to get a set of these and i'm using them as the rear setup of speakers for my 5.1 setup. and it worked great. I was able to follow your steps and was able to use these speakers and not use the transformer. I got my set at an auction and got them super cheap. brand new and i agree they work great and sound great for what i needed. thanks again
Once I did what he suggested, I have two of them hooked up to my home audio amp. Using them for rear speakers in the ceiling . I can't tell you how many watts the speakers can handle, sorry.
Nice vid! Just have one question though, after bypassing the transformer, does this drop the impedance of the speaker? And if so, what would be the impedance be? Thanks!
The more parallel speakers you connect creates LOWER resistance. This causes the amp to deliver higher current which causes the amp to protect itself (if you're lucky).
@@Trialnerror Resistance is measured in Ohms. Lower Ohms is lower resistance. Voltage divided by resistance equals current. If the resistance is too low you are putting too big of a load on the amp and it will blow a fuse. Or the amp will go into current limiting mode if it was designed with built in current limiting.
Awesome information - I just picked up 20 of these brand new! Do you have a video of them hooked up and running? Also I’m not to up to speed on my audio, any recommendations for a nice amplifier unit? Thank you !
If you only have two of these and hook them up directly to the amplifier what would happen? What changes when you do this as opposed to leaving them as is when just running two
Great video. I recently came into a pair of jbl 26ct and a pair of jbl 24ct. I plan on taking them out of the original ceiling enclosure and installing them into a pair of salvaged floor standing tower speakers for home use. I would like to know if I will need to instal them with the original crossover and at what wattage will they operate at after removing them from the original ceiling box. Thanks.
I have a pair of JBL control contractor series 28T-60 speakers and like you mentioned, they seem to be really good quality but with the transformer they do not get very loud. Was wondering if you could tell me how to disconnect it like you did yours but with mine?
Does your tap selector not have a straight 8ohm (or 16 in your case?) selection? I’ve got a couple different 70/100v transformer speakers and both have an 8ohm selection which I’d believe accomplishes what you just did here?
No. Most JBL "T" equipment doesn't have a bypass. only the "AV" versions do. Almost identical speakers such as the Control 25T and Control 25av have this difference in the transformer taps.
I got 4 for 80 found a guy that installs them everywhere he has 8 more and has more often I tried just running the speakers wire directly to the driver inside the can I didn't clip the tweeters but it seemed the speaker didn't sound right.
Hello I have a pair of EV evidence 4.2 speakers. Please what low budget clear sounding amp can I use? I have tons of high end audio equipment. But not any 70-100V amps. I have a QSC. GX5 Amp but not sure it will work! Help 🙏 thank u.
I've got 15 of these on the line for $5 a peice, the kicker is no metal mounting bracket, it looks like I don't really need it unless mounting in drop ceiling, what do you think?
Ok, I am trying to find some in ceiling speakers for a new whole house audio system. Are these speakers wired in pairs or do they have able to drive both channels?
I'm confused on miebthw green and yellow wires coming out the top of the transformer run to the switch, you say it runs to the Crossover. there a set that goes from the Crossover to the switch and a set that goes from the transformer to the switch you say the pair that runs from the transformer to the Crossover, there are none
nevermind, it was a 50/50 ...lol I was wrong 1st try..I suck...lol but figured it out. Holy crap These sound awesome with these Crossovers I thought it'd be comparable to running raw to the speaker, definitely not imma buy the other 4 thanks bud have money
Speaking of converting. What happens when you make home speakers out of speakers sold for cars? I mean subwoofer for $20 made for cars vs. $300 made for home. Same for dome tweeters,midrange..even amplifiers. You could get all that so cheap..but what does a home woofer with rubber edge sound like compared to the conventional?
A subwoofer or tweeter for a car generally speaking is no different for a car than a house. A midrange/bass driver for a car is normally designed to be run open baffle so they would normally be only appropriate to be run mounted in a wall or ceiling. Car amplifiers require a 12v power supply with a large current demand and would normally not be worth the cost or effort to be used for a home. With car audio speakers the main issue you would have to be concerned with is they are often only four ohm (sometimes even lower with subs) and not all home amplifiers can drive a speaker below six or eight ohms (it should always be listed in a amp/recievers user guide).
I am having trouble locating the HF APP,could you please share a link for it? Thanks Very good info, worked in the AV field most of my life and have done this several times as well as ad transformer to make 70V systems

Bad a** garage and good video btw! I've seen this mod on an older YT video. I did this same mod, but when you put a meter on the terminals or directly on the speaker, it reads 13.7ohms. How did you get an 8ohm reading from this mod?
I can't seem to find someone clearly showing how to convert a wireless bluetooth subwoofer into a wired subwoofer I could use for my amp. It only pairs via bluetooth if I have the compatible soundbar....I don't. (specifically, a Samsung PS-WN30 sub) I would like to find where I could put a line in jack. Hope someone accepts this challenge!

Its exactly the same for the 24CT, I've just done 4 tonight and i used this video for reference. The wire colours are identical too. Just make sure for the green and yellow, you dont do what i did on the first one and connect the red and black to the green and yellow going too the transformer! You connect them to the wires going to the selector switch (once you cut the cable in half). I used red thru crimps to connect my cables together and it worked a treat. Really simple job to do.
@@jessefladmark4554 you wire them exactly the same as a normal speaker once you have converted them over using this method (suitable 2 core cable to amp). I have put 2 speakers per channel in parallel. What this does is change the ohms per channel from 16ohms down to 8 ohms. It's important to make sure your speaker ohms match your amplifiers output capabilities. If you dont, you can blow your amp. This is one of the main reasons I chose the JBL speaker, due to their 16ohm impedance (meaning I can have 2 per channel producing 8 ohms). I found most other speakers on the market are 4 or 8 ohm each meaning running 2 in parallel either creates 4 or 2 ohms (two equal output speakers in parallel halves the ohms output), which not all amplifiers can handle. I know that's alot of info, but I hope it helps!
I have these and did this modification. They sound like very cheap speakers no joke. I 100 percent do not recommend. They are running on high end equipment.

That's great to hear man! Thanks for letting me know, I really appreciate that!
Aftet take that off then can you use a 300w cheap amplifier?

Thank you very much for the guide and information!!!
There is two yellow and 2 green so which one need to cut
Nice vid! Just have one question though, after bypassing the transformer, does this drop the impedance of the speaker? And if so, what would be the impedance be? Thanks!
When connecting to the receiver, did you daisy chain the speakers or run wire from each speaker back to the receiver? Great video. Thank you.
The more parallel speakers you connect creates LOWER resistance. This causes the amp to deliver higher current which causes the amp to protect itself (if you're lucky).
Lower the ohms number but RAISE the actual resistance. Not to mention you can add by wiring in series to lower the resistance (but raise the ohms)
Correct!!

Let's say if you remove the transformer from the speaker, what impedance will the speaker become?
I believe you could test it with a multimeter

Why do all that? Didn't the transformer have (low-z) bypass mood to do that?

Usually you switch the dial to zero and it bypasses the transformer.
Not on these. The trans has no taps that bypass it.
Great video!
I bought an Amp at Goodwill and says use "Class 2 wiring". What that means??.
Not much, it just means it's power output isn't much of a fire risk. You will see that stamped on 90% of the amps out there.
