Such a beautiful session. It actually made me scared about sharing information online, because everything is about context and that's obviously almost always missing from social media.
May Allah reward and protect Sh. Dr. Hatem al-Haj and his family. He’s such an articulate and effective teacher. I enjoyed and learned a lot from his classes in 2003-2004 before moving from Minnesota to Texas. He would drive all the way from Albert Lea (near Mayo Clinic), which is about 2 hours away, to mpls to teach us at Masjid ar-Rahman and Dar al-Huda. May Allah accept his efforts.
What an essential topic for our entire community. I find it difficult to know how to respond when a friend posts photos of herself after removing hijab and many people praise her how lovely she looks. I found the sample responses shared to “change the paradigm” especially helpful.
In regard to avoid sins and situations that lead to sin: one of the challenges is ghibat , when your friends go in this direction and you need to use extra brain power to figure out how to steer away from it.
somehow bring up Allah’s name in the discussion n ppl will start feeling guilt, or make an excuse n go to restroom or remember a task u need to do n present it as urgent and leave. or just say this is too much information for me to handle n im afraid it may go towards gheebah.
I think “riba” is a sin that has become very normal in our Muslim community. Unfortunately many people do not consider it as a sin. Everyone is buying houses on riba and are not thinking of it as a sin.
