I loved the Netherlands when I visited as a teenager in 1986.
The country is extremely clean, as villages and towns compete as to what is the cleanest town. All except Amsterdam.
Amsterdam has it's own charm, but it doesn't really feel like it's part of the Netherlands.
If you ever do go there, see what is outside Amsterdam.

The reason the Wallen exists is partly because of the tax revenue it generates from the girls themselves and the building owners. The curious tourist bring lots more in bars and restaurants and shops..... it's a win win situation with a very good and much overlooked side effect. The health and safety of the working girls who have to have regular health checks and work in a safe environment having security at the end of a panic button, and don't have to risk their safety in a strangers car......

You start heading south in Belgium, that's when you get into the area that is more French influenced, and they tend to be total d*cks. Not all, but some. Northern Belgium speaks Flemish and Netherlands speaks Dutch. I clicked on your video because of the title. I have been to the Netherlands and have to say that they are the most civilized and dignified people I have met. The country is beautiful and you have highlighted some of the museums, parks and towns I would like to see the next time I'm there. As for the dark side of the Netherlands, it doesn't look too dark to me. They have a regulated sex industry that is monitored successfully for sex trafficking, they allow people to die with dignity. They do not hide their dark past but display it so that people are aware that such atrocities were commited in the past and must not be commited again. When confronted with a problem such as a lack of land or flooding they find a solution around it. Perhaps aside from being a big player in the flower exporting market, they should also be actively engaged in exporting their mindset and attitudes to other countries that would benefit greatly from it.

Amsterdam (and The Netherlands) is not in danger of being flooded because of sea-level rising, the city is in danger because it's still sinking - just like its neighbour across the sea where I'm from... southern England, and in contrary to Scotland in the north where the land is actually rising. It's all to do with... yes... tectonic plates, and not as most may assume, global warming. Interestingly enough, there was a documentary explaining the above just a couple of weeks ago.

I am Dutch . When the video started I thought yes, we're going to have it again. The red light district and euthanasia are once again familiar so-called difficult subjects. Once I have seen it, I think it is a reasonably accurate video about the Netherlands. There are also a number of things in the Netherlands that you could consider the dark side of the Netherlands. However, we accept the oldest profession in the world. Furthermore, it is a given that people who really no longer want to live will actually leave their lives at some point. In the Netherlands we offer these people the opportunity to do this in a dignified and civilized manner. Furthermore, this process can also examine whether someone simply has depression and treat it with therapy or medication. In that respect, lives can be saved.
All in all a good accurate video, my compliments

Cost of living might be too great. I don't know. I'm a Dutchie living in the UK but, in the Netherlands most things are efficient, clean and overall good. In the UK it has gone backwards. simply becasue we are developing a low income nation so not enough taxes thus not enoughmoney to properly support the things that we all need. Greedy untility companies( the profits from power companies is just extortinate), water companies that are not doing what they are supposed to do (fix the water network), allowing sewage to be pumped in the waterways, road surfaces are diabiolical, train transport is also a disaster and so on and so on. Why do I stay: I have a lovely family here. But honestly, this country is run by morons and corruption is rife. Sunak is worried about immigration, maths tests etc. Maybe he could do something about energy prices, develop a solid energy plan for the country? Make sure we built more AFFORDABLE HOUSING so that people can actually buy one? Sort out the NHS. We spend a fortune on casual labour (via agencies) because we can't get the staff. That is nonsense BUT they should be paid better and a program of training should be developed. Did you know the NHS has appox 120,000 vacancies? Just a joke! Ahhhh, ofcourse, there is no money for that. REALLY??? I could go on and on. Such a mess. Incredible. And I love this country and it's people but this stupendous class system is driving the country into the ground. Mick Lynch is a person who is capable of wording things very well and is very knowledgeable. Just to mention one. not these lying bastards called tories.

As a Dutch person, great video, nothing in it was wrong, but compared to some of the other dark side videos I think this one was a bit too light. Of course as a developed country that has been developed for a long time our country has fewer glaring issues than fast-developed countries like China and Korea or underdeveloped nations, but it isn't flawless. In recent years the political situation in the country has been more and more difficult and problematic with a huge housing crisis and the toeslagenaffaire(look it up), as well as a rise in polarisation, xenophobia and extremism. Places like Amsterdam and Giethoorn also face problems with the extremely high amount of tourism, which was briefly mentioned in the part about the wallen but could gave been explored more in depth, especially with the tourists Amsterdam attracts often coming for drugs causing many to fall and drown in the canals while intoxicated.
Again, while these might not be the biggest issues compared to other countries and we are doing quite well, I think they could have been mentioned in place of the (admittedly creepy)museums we have here.

Is it also true that calves are almost immediately removed from their mothers and fed only milk? So, up until the day of slaughter they never eat grass or hay and the meat remains white and thus be expensive veal?

I am Canadian. Canada now has the highest number of assisted suicides, or euthanasia. In Canada it is called MAID (Medical Assistance In Dying). Recently MAID has been approved for people who are suffering from depression, so I expect the MAID rate and numbers will now skyrocket. Personally, overall, I find this practise absolutely disgusting. It is one thing if a person is suffering from a terminal illness and has exhausted all possible methods of healing or improving quality of life and is in constant pain requiring expensive drugs and pain killing medication, but to permit and assist someone to die just because they are feeling depressed is evil. The WEF wants everyone to own nothing and has told us we will be happy, and we need to lower the population of the world and eat bugs. Next will be Soylent Green. Aldous Huxley's novel, Brave New World, was published in 1932. We are now deep into that world.

Video mentions that the Netherlands became members of the EU, Well when i was at school in the 1970's (before we in the UK became members) I was taught that three counties started to trade between themselves without trade barriers - i.e. taxes etc. Those three countries were Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg - together known as the BeNeLux countries - in order to re-establish their industries after the World War 2.
This 'barrier-less' conglomerate then gained more countries and became known as the Common Market (which the UK joined), later the European Economic Comunity and then to the EU - European Union and that is where the trouble began as it is Politically governed by non-elected politicians who seem resolute in incorporating ALL the smaller - less productive - countries and states.
The EU leadership is not only unelected but does not publish it's economic records and accounts whicht is a major problem for France, Germany and the UK for it seems those three members are the only net contributors.
So the UK left and now there is a lot of problems emerging due to the financial unaccountability and 'federalisation' being forced onto a lot of member states that quite frankly, those states are not happy with.

    • @johannesdalhuijsen1705
      @johannesdalhuijsen1705 8 місяців тому

This is fictional stuff. There are nine contributor states to the EU. Between 2014-16, Germany and the Netherlands contributed almost twice as much per capita as the UK did. Sweden, Belgium and France also contributed more per capita than the UK. In the UK many people are alas skilled at glossing over their own immense democratic failures and their staggering corruption, as well as their pervasive bureaucracy, all while denouncing and scapegoating other countries. The mainstream British press amplifies this tendency. It is possibly a deeply rooted tradition.

As for being able to choose when to die…euthanasia…wel let me tell you the truth. There are so many rules and regulations that it is near impossible! My husband had an aggressive type of brain cancer. Before his mind was corrupted by the tumour, he signed a document, had it registered at his local doctor and our public notary. Alas when he became terminal, euthanasia was denied because he couldn’t express himself any longer, (he had lost his speech) and there was also doubt if he could comprehend what was being said to him. He died naturally after 4 days in a coma, spending his last few months in a hospice. My husband was not an exception, euthanasia is not possible in most of the cases due to the very strict rules that have to be taken into consideration .

This current culture in the Netherlands is more a part of the NAZI occupation than anyone will admit. The NAZI's did not only work to extinguish Jewry and all Jews in the Netherlands, but also ALL Christians as well. As Christians and Christianity was viewed by the NAZI's, and particularly the SS troops stationed there, as the antitheist of the NAZI ideology and the SS "religion". Which it was to those earlier indoctrinated SS members. The Netherlands was one of the last areas of Westen Europe that was freed from the NAZI SS oppression as well. All that took me aback and cast a dark shade over my time was the degree of casual, open, public racism. Sometimes I would walk past gaggles of angelic-looking middle-class children and overheard them blithely spewing invective of the kind I've never experienced. In Britain that would never fly, we have a fairly zero-tolerance policy toward vocal racism (not that racists don't write or speak in the U.K., just that they do so quietly or behind closed doors).

The only real darkside of the Netherlands is that we are THE masters in complaining about everything even the good things we are admired for abroad.
In general as a nation we are hard workers and go for maximum excelence and efficiency in everything.
This comes from the "pompen of verzuipen" (pump or drown) mentality due to centuries of survivalmode, living with and combating the sea.
Foreigners preceive us often as rude and cold hartet people.
We are just straith to the point and cut all the uncessary crap.
With the sea we have a weird symbioses like a long lasting marriage.
We love and fight the sea without the sea whe are nothing and to be fair i dare to say the sea can't live without us as wel ! We sail and work the 7 seas and the most fanatic enviromental groups to save the seas are also based in our country.
