To be fair, you could argue that someone who doesn't typically like a particular game type probably brings at least some unique ideas on what to do with it when designing for it. It's getting the outsider's perspective. Now, this can go horribly wrong, but it also can get neat, outside the box additions too. And, uh, given the end product, I think the extra perspective turned out pretty well.
I suppose if you like card games, you might be enclined to just make a card game. Whereas if you dont, but still are making one, you'll have to make it a card game that even you can enjoy. Though that could mean anything i guess.
One thing that Frost overlooked is the Symbiote event having the option to ENCHANT a card with Corrupt. This likely means that a system for altering cards beyond a simple single upgrade is available. Whether it’ll be a single slot system like Monster Train and the Guardian mod or something like the Biomes mod we’ll have to wait and see.
Yeah, like if you were offered in an event to add vulnerable to a strike or whatever - could be interesting/super powerful...adding intangible to a card and then burst/double tap/dupli-potioning it for example. Honestly I hope there's not a ton of emphasis on it, just like one or two opportunities in each character's total event pool to add vulnerable, one for weaken, one for poison, etc... I like that the cards have very distinct identities and ceilings on their own, but just a little peppering in of this idea could be really really cool
I also think the defect got done dirty, but I love the sassy necromancer. Also, I have a wild theory that maybe the defect will be a boss or something, because the steam page says "return to the Spire and face friends and foes."
The reson we don't see him could be he was still in the spire since he came from there has a atnamaton and when we finish his runs we don't get to actually see the outside only his two face orbs blackness and numbers
Oooh that would be cool. Like an option to play it solo or with friends would be neat, I think even local multiplayer would be possible with this type of game.
I can not wait to be a part of the beginning of this after joining the community a year or two late to the first. Between you, Jorbs, and Baalor, I’m going to see this game get dissected to each end. “Is this a board game?” HAH And, side note, the part about the characters having their own personalities makes me hope each character has unique, bonus event choices
The 1000 years thing is interesting because that means the characters we're looking at almost certainly aren't the ones we saw in sts1. So ironclad survived and passed on his martial art. That's really cool!
Not sure in what way, but the dark orb in the shop indicates he'll be around in some fashion imo. Also, claw in the shop. Well it's all in the cinematic so who knows, but yeah.
I'm with you, I knew Mega Crit was going to announce their new game but never in my wildest dreams did I think it was gonna be STS 2. I'm a console gamer but might get a steam deck just to play this in EA next year 😂 (I'm sure I can find other things to play lol). I'm still waiting for my board game to come in and this helped ease the pain
@@sillyking1991 yeah, it's just possible that there will be a super long wait, and since I love the series, I'm really interested in getting in on it sooner than later. I'm assuming that 'Corrupted' is replacing the card Corruption; it won't be in the game anymore. Instead, certain events, potions, and relics will allow you to add the 'Corrupted' keyword to certain cards which allows them to be played for free, but exhaust when played.
I discovered you a few months ago, you hyped my back in the game, and I already know I will be watching you play StS2 ! (after I put 50 hours in it, don't want to be spoiled hehe)
I'm so happy to see this happening cause with the more experience that the devs have now, they can make it so much better than the first, better code, gameplay and maybe even better mod support. (nevermind i just heard him say better mod support should have watched it all first lol.)
I was really hoping (probably more fantasizing) for an adventure story game in the STS universe to show off the amazing lore. And maybe shed new light on characters we already know. But STS 2 is just amazing. Either way I hope we get to delve into a lot more lore. The little tidbits drove me insane. Especially “This is your handwriting. What is going on?”
That particular event was pretty self-explanatory. The first time you encounter that event, it'll ask you to set aside a card from your Deck, putting it into the wall for a later climb up the spire (presumably when you're playing the same character). If you happen to encounter the same event again, you'll be given the option to take the card and add it to your Deck. The card also comes with a note, the idea being that the player character wrote that note to their future self on that previous climb. The reason they don't remember the previous climb is because Neow resurrects each character at the bottom of the Spire each time they die or successfully climb to the top, also resetting their memories. If you encounter the same event again in another climb, you'll once again be given the option to put a card into the wall and so the cycle continues.
@@jacobwansleeben Actually no, it’s not self-explanatory. You can grab cards of other colors from other characters, implying that all four of the characters have the same handwriting. This has very cool implications, like all four characters being the same person. Or perhaps all four of the characters are the same “soul” climbing the spire.
@@AnathemaXIII Interesting. You taught me something. My interpretation is that the player character is somehow always tied to the player themself. Therefore, when it says "this is your handwriting", it's also includes the player's handwriting.
I’ve got a running theory that the defect will have to be found inside the spire as it’s magic is probably what keeps defect and the other automatons alive
Frost asking for more lore in sts 2 is wild to me considering the first one is already so lore dense. Obviously there's going to be more lore in the second one so digging it up will be so rewarding.
Interesting vid idea - what concepts/ideas/characters/etc would you like to be imported/incorporated/refined from the modding community into the Slay The Spire 2
Claw doesn’t mean that the defect is in the game, considering the necromancer has a hand she can summon. Not to mention the necromancer is the color blue, which would conflict with the defect’s colorscheme unless they changed it.
Well I guess I should continue cracking on with my ascensions. I suppose by the time I'm done I'll be able to get StS2 on the Switch 2 or maybe I'd have a gaming PC/laptop by then. I was fairly late on the original anyways but I'm definitely buying it as soon as I can this time. P.S. They really did do the Defect dirty. I thought maybe since they were, from what I gathered, part of the Spire maybe in the act of slaying it they died eventually once they escaped. Certainly I'm not sure how long they would last with a cracked power core and the power system of the outside world is never explained but I doubt any civilizations were generating electricity at the time based on the characters that went into the Spire in the first game. I also get the feeling that the Spire was generating monsters that would wander into the world, reeking havoc and making technological leaps much harder. Man I just want more lore like you and it's awesome to be seeing even the slightest glimpse of a city surrounding the Spire. I've got a bunch of ideas myself but I've never really found a good place discussing what little lore we have and theories based on it. I guess because there isn't much outside of the Spire besides character descriptions. I don't care what they give me though, I'll have fun piecing it all together in my head.
It was never stated that The Defect was created inside the Spire or used to live in it. All his backstory says is that he's a combat automaton who gained sentience.
