2:52 looks like this conversation was taken out when you are going to meet Snake in Arsenal Gear and he is following you since the room after the ascending colon section. Thank you very much for upload this! MGS2 is my favorite MGS, and obviously, my favorite video game ever!
I really like how i can imagine the exact situations where these codecs would be or the context of it. Makes me wonder what would've been if the content these codecs had talked about was still in the game. I'm also kinda psyched about how i can tell exactly why some of those things were taken out.
0:40 i remember getting this on an easy/very easy run. (dogtag grinding) IIRC, i had just started Plant, decided to go to Strut F cuz why not. got spotted on AF Bridge, got lit up, ran back into A, hid in a closet, and got called.
They made this game in like 2 years, with a hardware platform change at the time. That's an insane time table for a game like this. I'm torn, because I think the rushed timetable and somewhat iffy last chapter still resulted in this postmodern dive into what it means to be an individual, what an identity is, and the place of popular media in all of that. Would more development time have ruined that? I don't know. I think the game, as it stands, is still really great and is still great to go back to. It's kinda like watching Citizen Kane. Like yeah, it isn't '''perfect''' by modern standards and you can see the technical limitations making their way into the medium... but it is still a beautifully crafted story with care and skill present in every moment. On top of that, it uses the medium to tell a broader message ABOUT both the medium (in this case video games) and art/media as a whole (the S3 monologue juxtaposed against Raidens character being a proxy for us as players).
Mgs2 ultimately defined the next 3 main stories to fill holes. It makes me wonder what Kojima ad libs. Some or all. *something special to note: Due to the time of release nov of 2001, they altered much of the games depiction of New York. They spent two months (or so) altering their finished product, still able to produce a definitive game for years to come.
Remember back then just after MGS3 when people shat on MGS2? Now it stands equally tall as MGS3, and is becoming more and more relevant by the day! Love MGS2!
I think I've encountered the "why won't she die already" conversation, I do believe it's in reference to Fortune, calling snake right after the fight at the bottom of strut A
Man, just listening to this all sounds like Hideo Kojima was going to let us explore the second half of Big Shell quite thoroughly and more of Arsenal Gear, both things I found to be extremely disappointing during my play through of the game. Great to know that Konami probably jipped us out of that too, and that we've been getting jipped long before MGS5 was even a glimmer in Kojima's eyes.

Judging by the Colonel's lack of craziness when talking about Raiden catching a cold and commenting on GW remaining frozen, I'm guessing an earlier draft of the game would've had the virus taking effect after you've explored Arsenal for a while. Probably the nude segment was supposed to last for multiple rooms instead of one and Colonel glitching out in the second room, perhaps?
1:05 The first word's out of my mouth when I met Rose. What kind of idiot would bring the field operative's girlfriend into this? (Ignoring how things went down at the end)
Some of these really confuse me. They must have re-structured a bunch of parts, that's the only way some of these make sense. I wish we had gotten this game instead.
I've actually heard some of these in the actual game, but as part of other conversations, if I remember correctly. I wonder why they went ahead and recorded these with the English VAs when they knew they wouldn't be used in the final game? A deliberate little bonus Easter Egg for people who opened up the code and poked around, maybe?
Snake is a lying piece of shit! If you shoot him while he's sleeping and call him immediately, he say's, "Raiden, I'm on your side!" Then later on he says he doesn't recall saying he was on my side...? Fuck you Snake--Fuck you, and your nice ass
SMAXZO Aren't real life computer servers designed to experience heavy loads generally located in cold rooms? GW was supposed to handle a stupendous amount of data, after all.
***** Thanks for the info. It would have been interesting to see ear plugs in the game, though technically just firing an unsuppressed gun damages your hearing, so technically Snake and Raiden would have to be wearing them all the time.
Umm, in all honesty though, weight gain can be unhealthy, if not downright dangerous, seeing as it puts pressure on your internal organs, not to mention the fact that your body is made to needlessly spend time metabolizing that fat.
jesus!! im glad they kept out Emma's cut lines because I think that much bitching would have annoyed players into offering her before Vamp got a chance too
Are there actually ear plugs? Lol I've been play MGS2 since it's first release on PS2 but I have the HD collection now on Xbox how do you get the conversation about ear plugs?
Cardboard Jase well, it is one of those things that has been said for pretty much all of time, but wasn’t really a widespread movement because it was mostly ignored, and rightfully so, but thanks to the Internet, anything can become its own civil rights movement. Only a matter of time until the battle between right-handed and left-handed people begins.
1:44 It's criminal that this didn't make it in lmao
Omg
2:51 One of the best lines...
Raiden:"Why didn't people tell me about these unused codec calls?! Oh wait, don't tell me. I learned the lesson."
3:48 "Raiden, were in trouble. Look what's on the tv."
"it's you, naked."
Ha! That's a good one.
I'm glad I didn't need a Memory Card PS2 to even take pictures
:)
I had a memory card specifically for pictures when I was a kid lmao

It's impressive that MGS2 predicted the shape of future online discourse, and the way it would spill into meatspace.
1:44 this looks like one of my Japanese doujinshis! 😅
6:05 Looks like this would've played at the place where you enter the game, there's a diving suit there
That particular codec call is actually in the game too. At least in the original version on sons of liberty
Its the starting area of the big shell! The suit is still there its just not mentioned
Rose was ridiculously unprofessional.

Earplugs and Stealth Camouflage?
Otaku_GameFan Ear plugs were probably going to be in the game during the early builds of the game but were taken out for the final retail version.
@@mrwolfe8376 iirc earplugs are in Peace Walker, idk for sure though

This is really old, but Raiden's like, basically Snake's nephew, as he's Solidus' adoptive son. While they're not blood related, it's still nasty.
