In today's Chinese lesson, you're going to learn at what points native Chinese speakers speak fast. I've made a list of classic examples from own experiences. It's true that in daily life conversations, when I speak with my family or friends, I tend to speak very fast without noticing. This is a speaking practice, so feel free to repeat after me and make longer pause you need it. As a Mandarin teacher from Taiwan, I'm so excited to show you what is the authentic Chinese Mandarin :)

This is an "eye-opening" video to give us, students, exposure to what's really out there. I'm still trying to get the basics down. I wouldn't necessary speak that fast (not that I could) - to do so I will definitely need to drink shots of coffee first. Hahah! I once tried to order a 中熱美 in a 台中 seven-eleven in chinese. I tried to explain 無糖 and 無冰塊. It ended with two clerks standing there trying to figure out what I want, I finally got a hot coffee with ice cubes in it. My chinese must have been terrible, I still have no idea what I told them, was a funny situation.
Practice makes perfect! Good try! No ice -we usually say 「不加冰塊🧊」😊

Because in Taiwan, we didn't say 無冰, you should said 去冰...
I’m from Mainland Chinese roots and currently learning simplified Chinese, I can see it has the same speak but different writing although I think that traditional characters are more beautiful.

I studied in Taiwan for a while and at the start of my stay I heard one of my friends there call their parents in Chinese and it was so different from the Chinese she spoke with me, but eventually after a few months i caught on to the fast speaking habits and started using them myself. Now we can just talk casually!

I was just watching the first episode of Love designer and I swear I did not hear 我要. So, I played the video as the slowest speed possible and I swear every syllable is not pronounced it sounds like it is dragged into the next syllable before it's finished.
I wanted to know how to speak with a native accent when speaking my target language and then I came across this video.
This just explained my confusion when I watch Chinese dramas.😂😂😂

Spoken language is totally different from the way it is written. I believe this is normal in most languages but I didn't know this about 中文 until watching this video. 👍👍👍

Mandarin With Miss Lin if you could as a recommendation you should film a live unscripted conversation with your friends and or family if they are willing to. I feel like that would be interesting to watch
@@jordandavis6709 this is one of the BEST ways to learn, but you know, the only way is to actually go to said country.
I guess it would be possible if you just hide your camera when you have your friends over and then you just edit out whatever personal details are talked about, and you keep the parts which were just normal, random talk that nobody would mind come out. You ofcourse censor the faces aswell.
the only thing would be the voices but its hard to see if someone would care if their voice was on the internet if it was only the voice and not the face.

This really makes sense. I can easily understand my basic Mandarin teacher who enunciates each word with the correct tone, but when I’m in a restaurant I can’t understand the waiter or waitress. In English we sometimes say “ya” instead of you, and the final d before ya sounds like “ja - so we say didJ’you or ”did j’ya” instead of “did you..” we then slide j’ya into a word that follows eg. “did you eat yet” becomes simply j’eat Yet?”

In English we do something similar. My friend who's learning English pointed out that my friends and I don't pronounce the letter "t" in the word "twenty" (we pronounce it as "tweny").
There are also other examples like "don't know" -> "dunno"; "want to" -> "wanna".

As someone who grew up with learning RP english,... american pronunciation really threw me off when I listened it for the first time.. different vocabularies for the same thing(eggplant instead of Aubergine) different ways of pronouncing or saying the vowel sounds.. even right now I still have trouble understanding different accents ..

I noticed this in a Mandarin Chinese show I'm watching! The line was 我倒要看看他会怎么跑 which spoken sounded like, "Wǒ d-yào kàn-à... tāuì zěnme pǎo." and I (obviously) found this so fascinating that I saved the clip. The two similar sounding 汉字 (倒要), the two identical 汉字 and "他会" were all condensed.
What I don't really understand is why 看 was duplicated in this sentence in the first place.
(Google's translation is a little sus. In the show it was translated to "I'd like to see how he escapes." wherein the MC was was referring to a mass murderer they all had captured and he was essentially taunting the criminal because the criminal was being haughty even while being surrounded by several highly skilled people.)

As an American Chinese, I’ve noticed some native speakers speak super slow, like my mom who’s from Hunan, and my friend from QingDao. And then some of my friends from Beijing speak super fast 😂 I don’t know if this is a regional difference or personal preference.
Sometimes (often?) Chinese people swallow their initial sounds yeah i noticed; it's reflected in the writing system in fact.

@林老師 謝謝妳 I was just talking to a buddy about this the other day, I asked them if it was normal to link words together & also skip some words. I've seen someone say "我們「在是在」" instead of "我們現在是在". I've also heard people skipping the 後 in 然後 and just say ㄋㄚ, also I seen someone say "also I seen someone say "就是K" where they substituted K for 可以. 好有意思. 我要去K書

Well, actually no language is spoken "fast", it's only sounds fast for those that don't understand or know the particular language, i.e mostly students or anyone hearing it but don't know anything at all, and as well in mostly languages people connect words together, I think it's something natural, imagine people speaking word by word in a conversation, it'd sound like robots chatting lol, by the way nice video keep on this work!

exactly , as i already commented , most natives speak like this in every country . there are some people who prefer speak nicely and correctly , but most link smash words together and even have their own little accent or way of speaking that can be difficult for people to get at first
i guess it's similar to english, where people say "gonna" instead of "going to", or how some people say "y'all" instead of "you all"
