Whenever I'm running errands in a garbage outfit I find myself thinking "sometimes you don't want to be the most fuckable person in the grocery store"

There's a distopian police branding system because the AI control system for a nuclear power plant (powered by card games) became self-aware and annihilated all humans expect for 4 who turned themselves into androids to time travel and prevent this from happening by blowing up the nuclear plant early obviously. Also the brandings are GPS trackers.
to be fair the police state stuff is pretty much confined to 5d's and the arc v dimension based off it. yugioh usually trends more towards a corporate dystopia-when-you-think-about-it for its various universes.

They joke about hair, but when I got a haircut in high school (went from long to a short bob) my good friend LITERALLY AVOIDED ME for a solid 10 minutes because he thought I was some rando that came over to our friend group. He didn’t realize it was me until I looked at and spoke with him directly. This is a guy I’d known for multiple years and had even briefly dated by that point. It still makes me laugh when I think about it LOL

Okay so... the prison branding in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5-D's and then the Julia's joke about being corporate sponsored by McDonald's brings me to an EXCELLENT but extremely depressing book I'm reading called Chain-Gang All-Stars, by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. The whole premise is that America's privatized prison system introduces a televised sport in which prisoners can sign up to earn their freedom by surviving for three years while being pitted against other prisoners in death matches. Sure enough, prisoners who survive long enough can gain corporate sponsors who will give you "Blood Points" to earn weapons or information about your opponents, so you literally have people wearing or getting tattoos of the logos of (sometimes barely disguised) companies like LifeDepot, WholeMarket, and Horizon Wireless. Again, excellent but depressing book. Highly recommend it.

This is an appreciation post for the editing of not just this episode but pretty much every 2024 episode. It has been fantastic. Love all the transition animations, and extra things like the explanation of Death Note for non-anime fans. I haven't seen people acknowledge them, but they are awesome!
as someone whose outfits are always hype: it's because i wear the exact same clothes every day when i'm home. all outfit energy is allocated to leaving the house. it's a facade.

I love when a pair of episodes or a stream and episode are very obviously connected and recorded same day, and you get a lot of the same vibes and similar jokes and stuff. I can't find this one's pair but I remember the heavy wind and "thinking somebody was breaking in at night from the wind" stories and the same vibes of "what is happening today" "even less than one shared brain cell." It's very funny to me, like with the episode pair where Julia thought it was the pokemon episode in the intro, and then the actual pokemon episode edit: actually wait, has that pokemon episode even come out yet?

This is an appreciation post for the editing of not just this episode but pretty much every 2024 episode. It has been fantastic. Love all the transition animations, and extra things like the explanation of Death Note for non-anime fans. I haven't seen people acknowledge them, but they are awesome!

Karina's gadget makes me think of the game Fashion Police Squad, which is basically a Doom-clone but instead of killing demons you're giving people better outfits.

I love the duality of Julia, where sometimes she goes above and beyond on something, and then other times she does her best to not have to draw much. Epic pieces every time though.

I love when a pair of episodes or a stream and episode are very obviously connected and recorded same day, and you get a lot of the same vibes and similar jokes and stuff. I can't find this one's pair but I remember the heavy wind and "thinking somebody was breaking in at night from the wind" stories and the same vibes of "what is happening today" "even less than one shared brain cell." It's very funny to me, like with the episode pair where Julia thought it was the pokemon episode in the intro, and then the actual pokemon episode
edit: actually wait, has that pokemon episode even come out yet?
