Too much Reva scenes in a show that was supposed to about Kenobi. They should've introduced her in Andor. Also, Reva surviving two lightsaber stabs (especially as a padawan) by Anakin is stupid. She didn't even receive any permanent injuries (which she should have after getting her stomach incinerated twice). Obi-Wan spending this much time with Leia and meeting Luke is borderline lore breaking, Qui-Gon having the ability to appear as a force ghost instead of just being able to speak to someone is lore breaking. Leia chase scenes were goofy. Obi-Wan being anywhere near Vader's power level 10 years after ROTS while not training at all and barely being able to use the force in episode 2 is laughable, let alone being strong enough to beat him without receiving any significant injuries. During this time period, we are talking about peak Vader, who has insanely ridiculous feats in the new canon comics. Obi-Wan being able to clown on him with rock throws was insulting, since Vader should be able to easily send those back at him. It was a good looking fight, but it's nowhere near the "rematch of the century", their ROTS fight was still miles better.
Kenobi deciding that Luke shouldn't be trained, right after letting Darth Vader live (which was also stupid) and knowing that he is Anakin is pathetic. Obviously these needs to happen because of the existing lore but its a shame that they wrote themselves in situations like this just for easy views through nostalgia baits. This show has barely produced anything new that people will remember in a few weeks. All the good moments came from either Vader being badass or callbacks to the prequels.

Vader should have never met obi wan in this, if anything it should have been a dark force user as the villain or a rogue jedi or even a bounty hunter as the main villain, leia should never been in the show either.

Vader's feats in the comics are almost too much. Nobody would buy it in live action. Alot of casuals will always think Vader is badass, but only in design because they still think about his clunky movements in the original trilogy

Now, how ppl felt about that I think is up to everyone individually but honestly as a fan of the prequels and grew up with that as my introduction to Star Wars, while not perfect, I really enjoyed this show and actually kind of felt that passion for Star Wars again which I hadn’t felt for years.

Power scaling makes sense. Vader is only 80 percent of the emperor. His suit and his injuries from Mustafar have crippled his force capabilities.
Not to mention obi Wan is a powerful force wielder and duelist and always has been. Him unleashing that onslaught was him giving into his full potential.

    • @arpadszabo661

@@arpadszabo661 he didn't have natural gift ability. He had to work ten times as hard as a typical jedi but by the time and even concluding the clone wars He was considered on par with the likes of Mace and Yoda.
The original scripts for Return of the Jedi Obi Wan and Yoda were suppose to appear and fight the emperor with Luke. OBI Wan transcending into the force that is a great feat in itself. He is a very powerful jedi.
He is not just a great duelist he doesn't get as much credit as a force user. That being said he didn't defeat Anakin because of his force ability. Anakin is still stronger. Similar to SS3 Goku being weaker than Kid Buu yet Goku was able to defeat Kid Buu with the spirit bomb and ample time giving by Vegeta. Not always the most powerful that wins in the fight Obi Wan has out witted and beaten Vader with patience and other means.

I would like Disney to not make the episodes longer than 25 minutes anymore. Almost all the shows suffer from dragging pacing, which thin out the plot. Also, the TV show is like Dragon Ball Super - it suffers from a lack of real tension. You can either watch it or not, but you will know the outcome. As for changing cannon, well, that happened since ESB and especially, with the prequels. For example, for me, a 22 years old Vader in the suit still feels more tragic and shocking than a Vader closer to Sebastian Shaw's age in ROTJ, thus more middle aged when he became a father. In the Kenobi series, a conflicted, greener Vader still has that trait of a young man with his full life ahead not fully accepting that those days are over and he is what he became. It is just sad...
Then, I do not have a problem with Reva - she was a plot device, a tool, and she was overcompensating and all over the place (yes, this type of person is annoying in real life as well) as a baddy, for her own agenda, as she did not belong alongside Vader (check her facial expressions in ep. 3, when Vader killed the child from the village). I would have loved to see how Inquisitors came to be from her perspective, but alas, the hate boner triangle of Obi Wan-Vader-Reva made Inquisitors a little more than Radler Sith henchmen and the show more entertaining (for me). Also, it showed how diverse are traumas and how differently are processed by different Force users, breaking the simplicity of the emotionally-driven Sith and stoic, selfless Jedi paradigm. Maybe too much stuff for people wanting the space western of old, but for me, the show worked as it is.

Like It didnt ruin obi wans character like in boba or the ot characters in the sequels, however it just wasnt well written in a LOT of areas. By the last 2 epsiodes it FINALLY reached the quality we were expecting since episode one. Obi wan, vader, and all the original characters i feel were handled well, whislt all the new characters: roken, reva etc just didnt really hit or were written badly. Overall id say this is an improvement for disney star wars taking into account their past work, but still got a ways to go.

The people who are overly angry at this show, IMO, understand less about Star Wars then even the writers of this show do. This is not Vader from A New Hope. He's still ruled by his anger, hate, and pride. He's not the master that knows how to keep those in check but also knows how to use them when needed. At this point he's more worried about revenge than the Empire's plans and agendas. That's why he made the mistakes he made. Disney has screwed up Star Wars A LOT, but they consistently get Vader right
I'd also like to address something else that people have talked about regarding Obi Wan picturing Leia and Luke for motivation. Those who are mad because he didn't flash back to the prequels show that they, again, understand Star Wars even less than the writers of the show. Why would Obi Wan flashback for motivation? Jedi can't have attachments and most importantly, Jedi do not mourn or miss the dead. Yoda has explained this concept so many times that it's gospel and anyone saying that's what he should've thought about just don't get it. He thought about Leia and Luke because they were the future. Their only chance at defeating the Sith and saving the galaxy. He thought about Leia and Luke because that's who and what he needed to fight for at that moment. He didn't need to fight for Anakin or Qui Gon or other dead people. They're one with the Force. Hell if anything, thinking of Anakin would've left him being more merciful than he was. Also, he left Vader because killing unarmed or helpless opponents is not the Jedi way.
The Reeva complaints and other such nonsense I agree with. Disney got Vader right though, as they always do, and this fight was absolutely amazing. Come on people.

I don't think Reeva was a diversity hire. Mind you Star Wars has always been inclusive similar to the X Men the themes are anti fascists, anti racists the bad guys the imperials and the first order were definitely inspired by the rise of nazism and the Nazis. That being said Disney has pondered to the Asian markets in the New trilogy including being racist themselves with making Finn character minimized on the poster. Also Lucas was an inclusive guy before Disney bought Star Wars. And Star Wars since empire has always been commercialized bro. They used setting and new species to promote toys. Shit their toys have almost made them more money then there movies.
That being said I do like your review but those things bothered me slightly. Adding a black actress as a lead or an pivotal character isn't woke or is a diversity clout. Star Wars has a black fan base they don't need black characters to sell to a black audience. What j don't like about Disney is when they force things but don't give character development like have a gay couple kiss in the background now that is what your talking about. She was a fleshed out character whether you liked her or not doesn't matter.

I really enjoyed this show, prequel Obi-Wan is my favorite character in all of Star Wars so I was glad to see him back and better imo. I thought they messed up with the 3rd Sister but honestly she wasn't my focus so it doesn't change how I feel about the show although it did bother me a lot cause I really wanted them to get one lead black character right in Star Wars but they failed again lol
Other than that I feel like y'all old Star Wars fans are way too hung up on canon and the original trilogy in general. I don't think the retcons and plotholes change anything important at all. It's like being mad that Dragon Ball Super changed the Potara earrings so that they last an hour instead of forever, it really doesn't matter if they can separated by other means anyways and it really doesn't matter when Vader and Obi-Wan last met or if Leia knew Obi-Wan before or not

Even if this show was in a vacuum, separated from the rest of the SW universe, it had too many failings to stand on its own.
The consistent and omnipresent plot holes mattered because they shatter immersion and break the stakes of most scenes.
The stakes where already at an all time low, because we know almost every character on screen survives intact, so to fail to bring in any other source of tension was crippling for me.
What had me so puzzled was how the show presented reeva's character. Her motivation the entire show is to kill Vader, because he took her family - so she climbs to the top of an organization dedicated to the genocide of people (and kids) like her....and then the show has the balls to give her a pass on this by the end because she doesn't do one more child murder. I didn't even understand why she would want to kill Luke to begin with, but this just passes by as if it's obvious.

@@jordanryan2497 I agree with the last paragraph, that was my issue with her, she didn’t make any sense anymore after that reveal in episode 5. I guess she wanted to kill Luke to get back at Vader but I still think it’s a stretch for her to realize that “the boy” that Leia’s father mentioned was Vader’s kid and I don’t think they revealed that she figured it out either
The thing about the retcons/plot holes is that they were centered around things that are brought up once in the original trilogy and were easily explained to fit into the plot in the show anyways. It’s the same with the prequels and all that they added and may contradicted to the canon of the original trilogy including what we originally thought was the last time Obi-Wan and Vader fought. The only difference between the prequels and this show is one came out during y’all’s childhood and one came out during y’all’s adulthood because none of them were originally part of the canon
I thought the show did a good job with creating tension, I know Obi-Wan survives in moments like episode 2, 3, 5, and 6 I was still wondering how he’d make it out of those situations

The plot holes and retcons show that the material is actually not being respected and is being treated lol a product. The OT fans and people that are hung up on canon are right to demand that a story that is supposed to fit between the OT and Prequels respects those periods and adds to it, not take away.

@@NiyiDaNinja I would disagree. Obi-Wan looks worse now since he could’ve killed Darth Vader again but let him go but later demands for Luke to kill him in ROTJ. What made him change his mind? More deaths that he allows? Obi-Wan also failed at his one and only job of keeping Luke safe. And Darth Vader looks more incompetent by leaving Reva alive and letting the ship with Leia on it get away because he’s “so focused on Kenobi”

I thought Leia was adorable. Obi Wan was great! Vader was like the Star Wars boogeyman and I love that. Reva was an interesting character and I hope to see more of her. Also just more of the Inquisitors in general. I think this show would have been perfect as a movie.
PS: I didn’t mind the Disney Star Wars trilogy
