It's good to be a day tripper. Drinking all kinds of beer, eating any kind of foods and traveling all over Texas. It influenced me to travel all over the country and around the world as well.
Great video. My family has been here since the 1880s even though I'm 48 years old I'm one of the old-timers here. Glad you visited. I graduated high school here in 1993, my dad did in 1958, my grandfather did in 1931. .. And so on. Many people have moved here, it's different than it was years ago. My dad had nine in his graduating class and I had 28 in mine.
This is such an underrated channel. It's so high quality, upbeat, and perfectly paced. The amount of subs is almost criminal for a channel like this. Maybe you should consider doing a special with Mike Chen/Strictly Dumpling? He's a food blogger/youtuber who lives in Dallas with a large following. I really think you guys should get more exposure!
Nothing, nothing negative about the revived Stage Coach. However, you’re fortunate to have gone there back when. Truly a “take the exit” or “Day tripping” destination. Quaint, no menus, daily specials verbally presented. Tenured waitstaff. Great food, great price.
A nice, special touch for the ending of the show, would've been to visit Salado Cemetery and put a rose on the gravesite of country singer, HOLLY DUNN. 🌹
I know you can’t talk about Salado without talking about Stagecoach Inn, but man their menu switch leaves something to be desired. They used to have a multi-course meal that was excellent! I just don’t dig the new chef’s taste. Those hushpuppies are still great though!
Today I learned the locals pronounce it "Sa-lay-do" and not "Sa-lah-do" which as a student of Spanish, I've always pronounced it. I drive by on I-35 all the time. Guess I'm going to have to stop in the Inn (get it?) and have lunch sometime. That looked really, really good.
I was parked at HEB waiting for my curbside order watching the last half of this video (cause I wasn't able to stay home and finish it on PBS).. I SWEAR I wasn't ready for Chet as a mermaid. Holy 💩, I literally laughed till I cried. Looked absolutely crazy by the time my order got loaded 🤪😭. Thanks for the laugh today, I need that!!!
Chet as a mermaid is a little disturbing. Good to see Salado doing well. I was a guest with my parents at the Stagecoach Inn many times in the late 70s and 80s.
It's like Llano the city vs the Llano Estacado! You say them very different. The folks who live in a town get to decide how to say it. That's my thoughts. The name of a town is much deeper than its language of origin.
The Salado of today isn’t even close to the Salado of the 70’s. The creek use to flow really good. Now it’s just a trickle. They use to have an Art Fair at Pace Park. Thousands of people showed up everyday. Now, nothing. Everybody would meet up at Dairy Queen. That was the place to be after football games. Dairy Queen and the truck stop, I should add. Salado had less than 1,000 people when we moved there. Now it’s just becoming a city like Round Rock and Georgetown did. One of the buildings downtown was a saloon and, before businesses bought. The most fun I had was going to C.B. Hodge Livestock after school. My dad was the bookkeeper there. I got to walk around the back with the cattle. To me, it was a blast! It’s not the same Salado as it once was but it’s still a great little town!

Dear The Daytripper,
Thank you for what you and your team does.

Crazy to see a random video of my home town pop up in my UA-cam feed. Hope you had a good time partner.

It was a different breed back then. A throw back of the best kind.
As someone who lives in Salado Texas there's still plenty of Indian artifacts if you know where to look
Love to read your columns and glad to see your channel
🤠
Ngl it’s kinda wild seeing this video randomly pop up on my recommended page and it’s all about the next town over from me. Small world.
Indeed. But UA-cam knows where you live. Kinda crazy.
Salado is a favorite stop on our epic motorcycle rides. Great episode!
The Shed is excellent too, just down the street from Barrow Brewing
I live in salado!
Me too!
I can only imagine the thoughts of the people seeing Chet cruising to the creek dressed as a mermaid😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Must have been the shrooms…

HEB needs to sponsor y'all BTW. I do not know a more "Texas" combo.
Yes, a lot of shops closed during the construction phase 😢
Hell yeah brother

Thanks!
My other grandparents live there!
There's a show called " Texas eats " and I saw it on UA-cam. Did you heard about it?

Great city.
Please pronounce the name correctly it's not sa lay do it is sa lah do
Who says it that way?
@@TheDaytripper everyone that understands it's a Spanish word . I grew up in San Antonio very close to Salado creek .
@@TheDaytripper it's just the white people who butchered a Spanish word trying to make it their own .
@@TheDaytripper it means salty in Spanish
