I know I'm not the best vlogger, but I decided to do one vlog a week on my channel in addition to the art video. I'm going to try and see how it goes. If you don't like me talking, just watch the Friday uploads :')
Totally agree. I would take a step further to say that it's not fair to lump groups of people based ANYTHING into a box (religion, race, gender, occupation, etc) - we are all individuals who just want to live their lives and be happy without being labeled something because of one person/small group of people.
Omg Holly!!! Didn't know you watched Jamie!!! I agree with your comment a lot. It seems very childish, like when we would all get detention for one person talking or something.
Agreed, the issues pointed out in this video hit the nail on the head. UA-cam is so diverse and you can't tar all youtubers with the same brush. You wouldn't compare a cookery channel to a conspiracy channel, the same way you wouldn't compare any of our art channels to a gaming channel. "Find your niche" is the first thing you're told when setting up your own channel and that's what makes youtubers so diverse and wonderful :) It's time the media understood this!
A friend of mine applied for an apartment and when they asked what her occupation was, she said: I'm a UA-camr. They didn't really understand until she went in depth in explaining how the whole thing worked. The lack of understanding from non-youtubers is slowly disappearing but it is still there, I think time and the effort that UA-camrs put will be what closes that gap.
The vibe I've gotten is that unless you're one of the giant youtubers, you're sort of seen as some kid messing around with a camera? Honestly, even then the world doesn't put much stock into what we all do, or at least the older generation doesn't. I think it's mainly due to a lack of understanding of the work that actually goes into these videos. Like in my very small experience, it takes so much time getting ideas together, actually making those ideas happen, and then going back to make it into something that's cohesive and entertaining to watch. But maybe one day everyone will get that we aren't one giant group of hooligan trolling the internet, haha. :D
EXACTLY! I'm a very small UA-camr and the first thing people always ask me is how many subscribers I have just because I don't have a lot does not mean I don't love it or take it seriously! I toatally understand what your talking about!
I get what your saying! But what bugs me about people asking is that they assume I'm going to be some famous UA-camr when that's not true. I doubt I will ever be famous and I'm fine with that! But I also think that some UA-camrs (like Jamie ) deserve "fame." But yea, I guess I was saying that I don't like it when people expect me to be "famous" just because I have a channel! I toatally understand your point of few though! And that is also often true!
I think you're right! And even though youtube is growing in popularity, it's nowhere near as prominent as celebrity culture. So it's really difficult to compare the two. (I doubt that people will change when it comes to looking down on youtuber's who make videos for a living. I mean, I still meet people who look down on artists in general unfortunately.)
Great video, I think it was really important for you to talk about this. It really seems like UA-cam is exploding and going through a major shit storm right now bleegh. And I'm really sorry you had to encounter such a person, I'm really happy that you were level-headed and didn't go through with anything. One sort of logistical thing I thought I might mention, maybe lower the volume a bit on the background music? Idk if it's just me but sometimes I find it slightly distracting from what you're saying haha
It was very important you came forward with this, because us viewers are most of times influenced by media but also by you guys we watch every day. And it's great to see the positive influence you have on us and the beautiful message you carry. Hopefully we can all see the positive and weed out the negative!
im sorry about what is happening Jamie its so annoying when things dont get through the right way or people saying things that are misunderstood just know that the people who watch you love you and Tom and if people want to be rude to you and him then we will solve it peacfully like Mama Jamie has tought us❤💙💚💛💜💓💕💖💗💘💝💞💟
Totally agree with all you said. You've placed the perfect words to this topic. Loving the vlogs along with your art. I love seeing your face and hearing your opinion.
I feel like we need to give the generalisation thing time because I feel as if this happened with film stars in the '10s and '20s. But yeah, I feel you! Calling people out is taking a step in the right direction.
Eloquently explained, precise and to the point. We need not generalise when we have content creators such as Jamie and countless others to watch and enjoy. It saddens me to see such ignorance towards these issues, however, thousands of channels continue to thrive despite the odds against them, and that gives me hope. Standing up to say "I am here and this is what I can do" takes a huge amount of determination not to mention the added pressure to deliver consistently to an audience of which the majority are wonderfully supportive but a handful are unscrupulous and therefore makes it ever harder to keep moving forward. I am massively appreciative of the content Jamie makes and am looking forward to what she will create next.
Really excited to see you vlog more. You have a wonderful personality and spoke so eloquently on this video. I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts and opinions
Vladimir Putin Disney dropped him because of his Hitler jokes. Also youtube dropped his youtube red series because of the same thing... I don't blame them though. If I had a big company that kinda depended on other companies sponsorship I wouldn't want to represent someone who is known to be controversial. By the end of the day it's all about money. Pewds still have his fans who support him so he's gonna be alright...probably.
Vladimir Putin A lot of stuff, you have to look back because the media, like WSJ or Independent, have been writing clickbait articles about Pewds for years. Everything from his wealth, to him joking about nigga, but now, they're trying to paint him as an antisemite and taking his videos out of context. Just search it up on his channels, I seriously think it also started with trolling the media with "deleting my channel at 50 million." That was in November-December and since then, they have been trying to smear him.
Roger Tully I don't blame UA-cam nor Disney. Its serious what happened back then and joking about it won't help. If I were A huge business I don't wanna be known for supporting that.
Garnet Fusion I see your point but disagree because UA-cam actually supports platforms of real racism and Disney has been "insensitive" many times in the past. They're just trying to save face, as the media tries to lynch Pewds.
You don't give yourself enough credit. You are spot on, and very talented. Also this is your channel make whatever content you want you will have far more positive comments than negative.
You are an amazing UA-camr, I was turned to your channel through your painting videos. But after seeing one I couldn't stop watching the other videos you have. You are talented, wonderful and more outgoing than you give yourself credit for.
Hearing you talk about this helped. I've been avoiding creating a channel because I was concerned about the issues within the platform. I feel a little less concerned hearing you speak on the topic.
I don't really keep up with any social drama going on but I really love your art videos and they have been inspiring me to keep up with my painting. I hope this will blow over fast and that you can remember that there are tons of us out there who will continue to support you no matter what happens :)
you've got it spot on, the community have been so supportive of one each others, calling out abusive youtubers etc, this is why I trust the teneighty magazine website. All the articles are written by past/current youtubers from the platform, so you know that articles are fair and reflective of the platform. I do rely on sites like the guardian but teneighty magazine and the community are my primary source.
completely agreed sunshine....I hate that because one youtuber lies or seems fake that means that all are or all or being dishonest who post similar content or anything like that. Labels are always annoying and unfortunately we can never escape from that. I use youtube to help myself and others feel better and take your mind off of the "real world" for a few minutes and just to relax and have fun but I'm always being bombarded with those who are hungry for "youtube fame" and subscribers it makes it not fun anymore sometimes. I'm glad you stayed the same...stay positive and remain that escape to peace for those who watch you
I totally agree! I feel like this happens to people with a larger following on other social media sites as well (eg.. instagram, twitter, tumblr etc) where if one person does one thing, it's automatically everybody's fault... Definitely not fair. I love your makeup in this video btw!! You look very cute
GREAT VIDEO! The best thing about UA-cam is that you can make SO MANY different things on your channel. For example I do art, storytelling, life hacks, crafts, and so much more. I can post what I want and am not stuck doing the same thing over and over again. What I find kind of annoying is that whenever I tell someone about my channel they always ask how many subscribers I have. I do t have a lot of subscribers but that does not mean I don't love to do it or that I don't make good videos. I am put in the box with the people who do it for the fame just because I thank my (very few) subscribers at the end of my videos. I agree that everyone in UA-cam is put in some sort of box, from famous people to people like me with barely any subscribers. You made a lot of great points in this video! I hope you have good day!
I feel like youtubers are often kept in the same group. Or even if they divide it up into different subcultures on UA-cam it's never as complex as it needs to be. Imagine other people complexly! Thank you for this video. I totally get what you're saying.
Very well spoken! UA-cam is an amazing space. Literally, from educational lessons to creative tutorials and music and short films--how can you put all youtubers in one box? I love that shirt, by the way! Lovely video :)
I agree with Jamie. that happens to lots of groups of people too. if one or a few people of that group do something wrong, the whole group gets in trouble and that's not really cool. it's same with teenagers too.
The media always generalizes what isn't like them, or what they like. The stigma has been around for a long time, it's just in recent news that it has gotten this much spotlight in the public eye, and for this long. And I think it's good that you're not mentioning this particular event. It could be sensitive to some people, and just mentioning this person's name can already give the wrong idea. And I enjoy your vlogs! You are always very soothing to listen to.
I follow a bunch of UA-camr's channels with comedy, ASMR, etc. and I certainly would not think to tar them with the same brush as the person whose name you didn't mention (and I won't mention it either). I think as a group, celebrities do get lumped together a bit, but you're right--they're all individuals and they each make their own choices, good or bad.
I don't think people give independent artists of any kind the respect they deserve. I see you as an artist in every sense of the word, and as one (much less talented) artist to another, you have my utmost respect. :(
My thoughts on this topic is that the reason why youtubers get put in boxes or get generalized is because the people writing about them are not involved enough in UA-cam, as a viewer or even artist. For them it is a big unknown mass, too enorm to be understood within a day of research. Most of the time journalists don't get enough time to do the research needed or feel too early what they know is enough. I agree with you, we as an audience need to call out the idividual, who behave inappropiately. Sieve through the flock and single out the "black sheep".
hey I'm pretty new to this channel and first of all I love this channel and you X I love your personality and style of videos and of course your art! I was just wondering what sort of accent you have because it sounds really unique X :-)
I'm new to this channel and was wondering if you have a video on how to paint for beginners and paint mixing techniques? I love to paint but am not really at it so any tips would be a big help thanks 💕
I would not collab with anyone that doing any kind of foolishness. I definitely hold individuals accountable not groups. Keep having fun. Nice OTD with the little hearts :)
I don't think I come across enough mainstream media in my internet consumption, so I hadn't really noticed the generalization of UA-camrs. I totally understand your point, though, and I think media does that because UA-camrs are still not well known by just their name. They're getting bigger, of course, but there's a difference in general knowledge. It's more like a placeholder-stereotype.
I think that a lot of this clumping comes along with the fact that UA-cam is still a form of media that relatively new. A lot of the same clumping of 'social influencers' as been around since the very beginning of the star system with film stars in the earlier half of the twentieth century. When one film star was caught under the influence of alcohol or having extramarital affairs, it only fueled conservatives and opponents to the fletchling Hollywood. I think that as UA-cam grows more and more rapidly into an accepted source of mainstream media, there will be more of the differentiation that we do get with people like us who use UA-cam as a primary source of entertainment.
Similarly, the thoughts you've had in previous videos can also be attributed to youtube's status as a media source still in its developmental years, though there's not really any outgrowing the idea that you don't know your audience. In film, it wasn't until the 1960s that studios actually started targeting specific demographics. Until that point, movies had been made for just about everyone. Even when they found that the key demographic was young adults aged 16-24, the resulting movies were low budget movies exploiting genres that were found to be popular until audiences got tired of watching them. These trends are heavily present on UA-cam with all the challenge videos and the trending page. It's understandable that it will take time to learn who your audience is and hone into what you want to produce. Certain trends are bound to repeat themselves regardless. (Also, sorry, this feels very mansplainy, but I seriously just spent the last two days cramming for my film history midterm and I feel like some of it applied to this situation. )
I think it's about Pewdiepew, I don't know exactly what he did but I saw in the news that Disney dropped him and youtube might as well or something but honestly I've no clue
I personally believe it's Sam Pepper... if you don't know who that is, he assaulted a lot of females when he was relevant in UA-cam and he made really weird pranks... look him up. I don't even know how to describe him. He is awful.
I completely agree with you Jamie. I know that this is different, but it really bothers me that in Waterstones (and probably other shops) books written by youtubers are kinda just thrown in a pile with a sign saying "youtuber books" they're so much more than that. They deserve to be properly recognised for what they are not and just for being "youtuber books".
I care about you! Make creative things! Go on to better things in life! ... everything is so meta these days. you're great, i enjoy you, do your thing, make vids, do other stuff, i enjoy our time together every few days, otherwise ... whatever! :)
I'm just a person whose intentions are good. Please don't let me be misunderstood. I'm here for the art and for a person that is a bit different in a good way. :)
I think the reason why UA-camrs are grouped together is because UA-cam itself is still really new. The film industry, for example, has been around for so long that it's established its own place in culture. UA-cam is still a baby, and so UA-camrs are misunderstood and therefore grouped together. Just my opinion on it.
this is so far removed from what the bigger tuber is doing at the moment, it just shows that being calm and mellow is just powerful as an eccentric 30 something yr old he's damaged he needs a better circle his family are failing him
Putting people into boxes is something we people often do to make easy shortcuts. Especially when something is little alien for us. For example I might treat baseball players as a one group of people since I don't follow the sport at all. Eventhough I know they're individuals and not clones I might think that after meeting one player that likes peanuts all the baseball players like peanuts. The same for sure applies to people who don't follow youtube and categories every content creator the same. Which is not true ofcourse and non of the youtube-fans would ever think so.
I know I'm not the best vlogger, but I decided to do one vlog a week on my channel in addition to the art video. I'm going to try and see how it goes. If you don't like me talking, just watch the Friday uploads :')
I can't wait to see the vlogs!
BananaJamana But your voice is so cute 😕
BananaJamana I love your voice. It's my number one favorite thing about you 💖💖it's so beautiful 😍
BananaJamana I love all your vids :')
I quite enjoyed listening to you speak about the topic. I would love to see more of these. :)
Nobody puts Jamie in a box! Love your content so so much! Keep it up :)
Also: Your hair looks lovely ♥
The aesthetic on this video is beautiful! Secondly, so glad you talked about this
awh chloe i didnt know you were a fan
I LOOVVEEEE Jamie! Followed her for ages :D my biggest art inspiration ^_^
Me too!
It's kinda like with religion and POC. One person does something bad and the rest are stuck with a label.
TheNightShadex yep :[
TheNightShadex Very true, it's so sad that that happens.
@ultragaze
As a Christian, I'd like to apologize on behalf of the people who make you wary of me.
~Be well.
Shining star, using your voice to acknowledge these kind of issues is great. Love you, your art, love hearing your thoughts.
Okay who else feels misunderstood a lot ? I do sometimes 🤔
Sam Mansfield im sorry that you do hopefully things will get better❤
I feel like that a lot.
Hey Sam! :)
Sam Mansfield me
Sam Mansfield me
A friend of mine applied for an apartment and when they asked what her occupation was, she said: I'm a UA-camr.

Idk if it's just me but sometimes I find it slightly distracting from what you're saying haha
okay, Putin.

I genuinely find myself drawn to what you're talking about- and what you're saying is so true!
I absolutely adored having the opportunity to hear /you/ speak from you mind outside of your art. I hope you keep putting up vlogs
Totally agree with all you said. You've placed the perfect words to this topic. Loving the vlogs along with your art. I love seeing your face and hearing your opinion.

That's true! Films in general and film stars in particular were villainized by the media through the Prohibition era.
I'm very glad to hear you talking about this, Jaime.

Really excited to see you vlog more. You have a wonderful personality and spoke so eloquently on this video. I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts and opinions
This video deserves more attention. Like omg. Spot on darlin' with this video.
I think you're talking about Pewdiepie, but just a guess, this dude is being hated by the media, right now. They want to villainize him.
Ikr, it sucks...I feel like most of it is jealousy, it seems to always be people who are doing well for themselves who are victimized
Vladimir Putin Disney dropped him because of his Hitler jokes. Also youtube dropped his youtube red series because of the same thing... I don't blame them though. I love that shirt, by the way! Lovely video :)
You could literally use the same exact video to discuss what it's like being a minority.
very true
bigp132 sadly true
Hi you're voice is so nice and I think you're so sweet because you show the art side then the Disney side
keep up the amazing videos
I agree with Jamie. that happens to lots of groups of people too. if one or a few people of that group do something wrong, the whole group gets in trouble and that's not really cool. it's same with teenagers too.
The media always generalizes what isn't like them, or what they like. The stigma has been around for a long time, it's just in recent news that it has gotten this much spotlight in the public eye, and for this long.

I love your videos your videos are unique in there own way
I love your vlogs and you have the most beautiful and relaxing voice
I love this. You would make a good public speaker (if it wasn't in front of a massive visible audience. That sounds scary.)
I don't think people give independent artists of any kind the respect they deserve. I see you as an artist in every sense of the word, and as one (much less talented) artist to another, you have my utmost respect. :(
Thank you so much for saying all of this!!
Love your shirt !!! "Guilt by association" is never a good thing. The media is so messed up.
=Maine=
Oh my gosh, I love your shirt! xxx
Also, you look particularly radiant in this video :)
You all are totally different. lumping people is never a good thing. no idea what happened, dont care. please keep posting videos I love them!
love this and you
You're a lovely person, thank you❤
My thoughts on this topic is that the reason why youtubers get put in boxes or get generalized is because the people writing about them are not involved enough in UA-cam, as a viewer or even artist. For them it is a big unknown mass, too enorm to be understood within a day of research. Most of the time journalists don't get enough time to do the research needed or feel too early what they know is enough.

Your top is adorable!!
Nice bangs! They look different☺️
Very eloquently put!
I absaloutley love that you've said this. Also (I love your lipstick in this video , what is it please?)
Jamie! I have that same dress! It's so cute!
TheSophieDoubleYou Where did you get it then?😯❤️

@bananajamana I love your voice it's my number one favorite thing about you. It's so beautiful 💕
Everyone needs to watch H3H3's video about Pewdiepie.
I know this has nothing to do with anything, but I love your eye make-up so much! Just wondering what you use...
#NotificationSquad where you at ❤❤
Ciara Slattery hey bo
i love your videos
Love your videos ❤️
(Also, sorry, this feels very mansplainy, but I seriously just spent the last two days cramming for my film history midterm and I feel like some of it applied to this situation. )
Out of topic but you look especially lovely in this video, overall!
i know this isn't the point of tge video but ive only just noticed how nice your eyebrows are!
Your hair looks different. Did you tone it or is it just the lighting? It looks gorgeous!
I don't often keep up with the news; what went on with the person who wanted "favours"?

I think Sam Pepper?
I think it's about Pewdiepew, I don't know exactly what he did but I saw in the news that Disney dropped him and youtube might as well or something but honestly I've no clue
Kim Olyslager no thats too recent
I personally believe it's Sam Pepper... if you don't know who that is, he assaulted a lot of females when he was relevant in UA-cam and he made really weird pranks... look him up. I don't even know how to describe him. He is awful.
I always like her vids before watching
Jesus Christmas, so early
I completely agree with you Jamie. I know that this is different, but it really bothers me that in Waterstones (and probably other shops) books written by youtubers are kinda just thrown in a pile with a sign saying "youtuber books" they're so much more than that. They deserve to be properly recognised for what they are not and just for being "youtuber books".
Although, being put in an area labeled that helps people looking for several books written by many UA-camrs. There are up sides and down sides to it.
Loved this!
Ahh this video is so important
I care about you! Make creative things! Go on to better things in life! ... everything is so meta these days. you're great, i enjoy you, do your thing, make vids, do other stuff, i enjoy our time together every few days, otherwise ... whatever! :)
You are great
I love my UA-camrs☺️💜
I'm just a person whose intentions are good.
Please don't let me be misunderstood.
I'm here for the art and for a person that is a bit different in a good way. :)
Love this video 💗
I think the reason why UA-camrs are grouped together is because UA-cam itself is still really new. The film industry, for example, has been around for so long that it's established its own place in culture. UA-cam is still a baby, and so UA-camrs are misunderstood and therefore grouped together. Just my opinion on it.
Cheerful words!!!!
Great video!
this is so far removed from what the bigger tuber is doing at the moment, it just shows that being calm and mellow is just powerful as an eccentric 30 something yr old he's damaged he needs a better circle his family are failing him
Putting people into boxes is something we people often do to make easy shortcuts.
You're so beautiful and I love the way your mind works! ❤😘😍
Luv this 💓✨
