I wonder if the default setting was intentionally set by the manufacturer to prevent such?

Good morning, I've purchased the mini dsp and umik 1. Watched all your videos multiple times. Yet I've hooked up and set up everything as you instructed and when getting to the point of level matching the subs, I can't get the sub signal to output noise to for level adjustment? I am using the new device console which was a curve ball. The high, and low bypass in device console crossover section is confusing me. Can you help, 🙏
Thanks Brad! - I have four subs and the MiniDSP 2x4 HD and and the UMIK-1 out of the box, but not tried or connected yet. I've been sorting through numerous UA-cam videos and seeing new releases of the various software. I found this particular video went too fast for me to follow. - Ideally, I'd like to see a guidance video that I could follow along with WHILE I set up the unit and the S/W with pauses at the appropriate times that I can make settings, then measurements, move on to the next step, then draw some conclusions.
I would imagine we can still fallow along with the old DPS videos with the new software so long as we know where to click on the new interface right? The software just got a face lift for the most part. I have the minidsp coming in today and ordered a second Rythmik LV12M yesterday and plan on using your dsp videos to set them up. Really hoping you will be doing a new tutorial using the new device console if you haven't already. Your other videos have helped in many ways, but for some reason I am struggling hardcore trying to get everything in my home theater working correctly. Basically a complete noob to home theater. Spent the last six months diving pretty deep into it and now all I have left to do is get it to sound the way I know it can.
I had the 2x4 but the tutorials were not great. I recently ordered the 2x4 HD and was looking forward to using your HD tutorial. So you have another fan looking forward to your updated version. Until then Ill do my best with your original excellent tutorial. Thanks!
Thanks, Greg! The current series should work for you just fine as long as you don't mind kind of hunting for the some of the settings vs. where they are in the original series. I actually find the device console much easier and more intuitive to use, so I can't wait to make a new tutorial using it.
Looking forward to the new series. After I updated to device console, I can't get the same results with REW and uploading the biquads file. Not sure if there is something I'm doing wrong or what.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I really love the updated interface, even with a few of its shortcomings. Hopefully they can fix those with future updates. I’ve actually implemented some different methods for subwoofer alignment and calibration over the past few years using REW data instead of just “eye-balling it”, so it’ll be nice to update the guide for those that want to try those methods. I also have been working hard wt making the tutorials more cohesive and easy to follow, with clear distinctions of what step you’re on in the tutorial at all times (without looking at the timestamps). So just some quality of life improvements all around.
This may seem like a simple question but can I unplug the USB from my MiniDSP after config? Had to stretch cords across my room since I dont have a laptop and do NOT want to keep it like this.
You can definitely unplug the USB cable once you’re done. This is something I forgot to mention in this guide but it will be corrected in my upcoming updated miniDSP tutorial. Sorry about that.
I now have the new Device Console and usb update cant get it update firmware to 1.50 so it wont connect. Do I have to get rid of old console that still works?
It is! Just been busy with work outside of UA-cam. Once I get caught up I will be back to making videos on a regular basis and the new tutorial is at the top of the priority list.
Good to know, I just started going through the old videos to redo my subs configuration, and I have a few comments on the old series. I would assume that users even though some are tech savvy, most could use a thorough instruction on the inputs of every step, the reason is that, although the default input in your screen and software might be set at certain inputs it could be totally different for another user. Case in point, while following the guide today, I had weird measurements during the level alignment of my subs then I noticed that the generator was set to "-12.00 dBFS" instead of "-20.00 dBFS". Had it been mentioned in the video would have made things easier and so forth.@@HomeTheaterGamer
Ugh! I just updated my firmware and now device console doesn't recognize my MiniDSP. Windows does and I tried reinstalling and everything but no luck. My MiniDSP says it's 1.5 and everything. It's just that the console can't see it. Any ideas??
Still in the works and definitely NOT canceled. Unfortunately life happened, and I ended up with a TON of freelance work starting in January which took up most of my time. I'm happy with the money I made, but I'm not happy with how my channel has suffered because of it. Due to that, I have a few videos left to edit for a client before turning my full attention back to my channel. I have 3 videos I've shot for this channel that I need to edit, which will give me ample time to shoot and edit the updated miniDSP tutorial. I also have an Audyssey MultEQ-X tutorial in the works along with some others. Lots of awesome stuff coming. Thanks for sticking around. I really appreciate it.
Try doing a full hard reset using the reset pin on the device itself (you’ll need a paper clip or something). I recently ran into the same issue with a client and that worked for him. As for your earlier settings, unfortunately if you didn’t back them up manually prior to updating then they are probably gone for good. That definitely sucks however I always recommend backing up your miniDSP profiles after you’ve completed calibration. If you have the file on your drive somewhere then you’ll be able to load it up after the update.

You know what’s weird? I had zero issues updating the firmware on my 2x4HD which is a couple years old, but I went to set up a brand new 2x4HD yesterday for a local client and I had no luck updating the firmware on it and ended up having to use the old 2x4HD interface to get everything dialed in. His 2x4HD was on firmware 1.18 I believe and would just fail the firmware update every time. So strange. The 2x4HD “user downloads” page has two files to download: the big download button on the right hand side (which has the older XMOS firmware update tool and update file to, theoretically, get you up to date for device console), then the actual device console below that. I used XMOS update tool and updated my miniDSP that way, but like I said, that method failed completely on my client’s and I could never get it to update and also didn’t have time to troubleshoot for very long as I was doing a calibration for him.
