@ interesting, I would think it would depend on your clients style. If they are into ultra modern, I can see how that might be true. My clients here in Northern California still are very much interested in plants. To each their own.
There is a clear difference between a landscape architects design vs a landscape designers. Plus, the LA can save the client from needing to engage an engineer in general. Please use landscape architects.

New generation of designers don’t focus on plants anymore, it’s where the industry is headed
