Hi, thanks for so graciously taking on my request!
The main thing about promoting Theatre of Tragedy is that they basically invented this vocal combination that you especially hear in Der Tanz Der Schatten, so this video with the original vocal lineup is an important artefact of the history of metal in my opinion. They started doing this in 1994, nearly ten years before Epica did similar things.
There were other bands as well, and there was one person replying to my previous comment saying that the Swedish band _Draconian_ was also doing this very early -- I think they formed in 1996. Draconian is a great band, but unfortunately I only recently got into them. In my view, the female singers in Draconian have not really aimed for a "classical" technique, while Liv Kristine in Theatre of Tragedy did somewhat aim for this in certain songs (although she is not classically trained as far as I know).
What really sets Theatre of Tragedy apart from other bands that I have come across is that the two voices are performing different roles -- many of their songs are made into small "plays", with intricate inter-weaving of the two vocal lines. Their use of Elizabethan-era English (as in Shakespeare or the King James Bible) and other unusual forms of English marks them as extra idiosynchratic. It may not be to everyone's taste, but for people like myself with an interest both in languages and in metal, you can imagine it made them very appealing.
It's difficult to find high-quality live clips of bands from the 1990's or early 2000's, unless they were very prominent and could therefore be recorded with the very best tech at the time. I suspect this recording has passed through an analog format, and been digitized. That can often lead to some pitchiness, and might explain what you mentioned during the second song. Of course, audio quality on actual albums was much better even back then, and especially the 2nd and 3rd album by this band remain favourites to listen to for me even nearly 30 years later.

I didn't realize that was Liv, I really loved her in Leaves Eyes. I have 3 songs I recorded when I saw them several years ago on my channel.
Even though I didn't really get this, I really appreciate your request. Thanks a lot for watching.

Hell yeah Theatre of Tragedy. They sort of pioneered what became symphonic metal. Later on they transitioned more into industrial synth metal. You can already hear some of that here. Apparently they were a big influence on Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish. One of my favorite tracks is And When He Falleth

Thanks for watching. I could see what they were doing, it just didn't click for me. I'm going to get the that one. While watching, I didn't realize it was Liv from Leaves Eyes, I really liked her with them. There's 3 songs I videoed at a show around 10 years ago on my channel.

Theatre of Tragedy was a goth metal band, not symphonic metal or sympho power metal. There is a big difference between TOT on one side and Nightwish or Epica on the other.

at that time this was called gothic rock/metal?, late 80s overflowed us with hair bands so to counter that many niche genres surfaced, black metal, grunge and gothic for example,
(i don't know any other connection to gothic stuff other that Paradise Lost released album called Gothic '91 and this was pretty much the beginning of new genre)
Gothic rock/metal? was pretty mainstream in heavy music up to 1998 (Tiamat, Sisters of Mercy, Paradise Lost aso) or so when it was replaced/improved to symphonic metal by Therion, Nightwish and Within Temptation (WT first album Enter is pretty much gothic rock and second one already symphonic metal)

Yeah, I remember it being a thing but my musical evolution hadn't gotten there yet.
      Thanks for watching.
