In an expression of solidarity the Russian Red Army Choir sang GOD BLESS AMERICA at a commemorating scene the tenth anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, at the Quebec City Military Tattoo 2011, a major event of the Quebec City International Festival of Military Bands. I was very touched when the Red Army Choir interpreted this Beautiful USA Patriotic Song especially in English .And now,they have lost many loved ones.And we, (Québec City Can.) will never forget their Outstanding Military Tattoos, Parade and Concerts.

It's not up to the leader, we're a democracy. It's up to us. My generation is ready for change so our future is bright, but we can't grow if they won't grow with us. It's usually preferable to say which ensemble is performing as there are two choirs which can call themselves the "Red Army Choir", the Alexandrov Ensemble and the MVD Ensemble. This performance was from the Alexandrov Ensemble, the choir which unfortunately lost many of its members in the recent plane crash (the solist which sang in this performance was amongs the dead, may he and his colleagues rest in peace).
Il est habituellement préférable d'indentifier l'ensemble car deux choeurs sont autorisés à s'appeler "Choeur de l'Armée Rouge", l'ensemble Alexandrov et l'Ensemble MVD. Dans ce cas-ci, il s'agissait de l'ensemble Alexandrov, le choeur qui a malencontreusement perdu beaucoup de ses membres lors du récent accident d'avion (le soliste qui a chanté est parmi, les morts, puisse-t'il et ses collègues reposer en paix).

Did it have to be an "American policeman " who represented our people at this pageant? It is especially troubling in an era when the local police are being militarized.
Also, has everyone forgotten that a basic founding principle of our democracy is a policy of separation between "church" and "state" ? Historically, this has been one of the fundamental ways we have differed from the old feudal system. Those millions of patriotic Americans who are not persuaded by any church dogma deserve respect as well as all those who, in practice, subscribe to some "higher power." "God Bless America" is actually not acceptable to many of us as an anthem.

Since I was a kid, I have wanted to see Russia. I never thought it would actualIy happen. 5yrs ago my mom made it happen. We went for on a tour for two weeks. My mom fell in love with Russia. I did as well although I had known I would love it. My mom loves Russia so much she has taken me there 5 times and now planning for a 6th if my health holds. Russia is a beautiful country. The Russian people are very respectful and compassionate. They are the largest reason our trips, and even more important, my mother and my relationship has never been as close and loving as we are now. Thank you Russia! RUSSIA WILL ALWAYS BE MY NUMBER ONE FAVORITE PLACE! THANK YOU RUSSIA FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE FOR AND CONTINUE TO FOR US!!

I was in Québec at that performance and I will never forget this choir passage in the city. (they sold out of tickets very quickly) It was heart warming and exceptionally appreciated by Québécois. C'est un des plus grand orchestre/chorale du monde. J'espère que le groupe va se remettre et continuer à chanter pour le plaisir des gens. Canadians have no rancour against Russians (except those crazy Ukrainian born immigrants) and I hope they comeback to visit our country and sing for us.

I remember the year 1978 when Johnny Cash performed 4 concerts in Prague. He bought in Prague only one thing - the LP disc having got a record of Red Army Choir named by Alexander Alexandrov. Such a great singer of country music surely knew why he decided for such a souvenir.
Seems a little more appropriate now. But one of the best versions I've ever heard.

Could that be true? That may be the reason for its popularity among the Red Army Choir. Oddly there is another famous Russian composition by Tchaikovsky: "1812 Overture" always played on the 4th of July celebrating the American Independence all over the USA. Odd... truly odd!
