Saku was the best ground fighter ever. period. if he got his opponent to the ground, its pretty much over. but with that aside, anderson silva is the greatest MMA fighter of all time. most well rounded. a prime anderson vs a prime saku would be interesting to watch. of course i think anderson would win but saku would give him a hard time. if you think about it, saku was really a true welterweight who fought middleweights and light heavyweights. even heavyweights at time.

Yes but we have seen him stop a black belt bjj guy (Lutter who trained under Machado) from submitting him. So even if a master submission wrestler took him down, that doesn't mean they could submit Anderson. His game is now of elite bjj instead of mediocre bjj as was the case when he fought in Pride. I have no doubt that he could avoid getting submitted, especially by triangle choke. Triangle choke losses are rare in mma amongst those who are very competent in bjj as Anderson is now.
there was an another post I made which apparently did not take. To finish: How did Okami fare against silva's tdd? He took him down with ease back in 06. But this was not the case in their 2nd match. Okami could not do it even against the cage so he had to play the standup game. And Chael, one of the best TD artists in the biz, got 4 out of his 7 TD attempts stuffed by Silva. And I believe Silva wanted that fight to go to the ground due to Chael's disparaging comments about Nog bro's bjj.

He's only recently started fighting at 185 in his last few fights in the UFC as he's gotten older. Learn your history kid. 2nd fight Wandy slammed a much lighter Sakuraba to get out of a choke that Saku had sunk. it broke Saku's collarbone and the fight was stopped after the round was over. Saku is also a UFC tournament Champion btw.

I think it had to do with wand's MT skills. MT is not only offense but defense. Do you really think Silva would even get dropped like that by Sak? @lalamango1 When it comes to bjj there's the Gracie's and then there's everyone else.While the Machado's were Gracie trained, they don't prescribe to the same standard as actual Gracie Barra Schools. Lutter's skills are nowhere near the level of Sakuraba being the only man to submit Gracie's in MMA. The only other man who's subbed Gracie's in any sort of competition was Wallid Ishmail in BJJ comp, who was Carlson Gracie trained.

@lalamango1 When it comes to bjj there's the Gracie's and then there's everyone else.While the Machado's were Gracie trained, they don't prescribe to the same standard as actual Gracie Barra Schools. Lutter's skills are nowhere near the level of Sakuraba being the only man to submit Gracie's in MMA. The only other man who's subbed Gracie's in any sort of competition was Wallid Ishmail in BJJ comp, who was Carlson Gracie trained.

Anderson very well could win the fight if he's able to keep it standing. But Sakuraba's takedowns in prime were better than Sonnen and Hendo and his submission ability was always lightyears ahead of theirs. SIlva hasn't fought a submission wrestler since his losses to Chonan and Takase, both Saku training partners.
