Are we misunderstanding what DevOps truly is? In this video, we dive into one of the most debated topics in tech: the DevOps Engineer role. Is it a necessary evolution in the industry, or has it strayed from the core principles of DevOps? Let's explore why this role is so controversial and what it reveals about the future of modern software development.
🔍 What You'll Learn in This Video:
1️⃣ What is DevOps Really?
• The origins of DevOps as a culture and philosophy, not just a job title.
• How DevOps bridges the gap between Development and Operations to foster collaboration, automation, and efficiency.
• Why DevOps is all about shared responsibility and breaking down silos.
2️⃣ The Rise of the DevOps Engineer Role:
• How the need for faster software delivery cycles and complex cloud environments created the demand for a dedicated role.
• What companies expect from a DevOps Engineer-spanning skills like CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and monitoring.
3️⃣ The Key Responsibilities of a DevOps Engineer:
• Building and managing CI/CD pipelines to automate testing and deployments.
• Using tools like Terraform and CloudFormation for Infrastructure as Code to create scalable, repeatable infrastructure.
• Monitoring production systems with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch to ensure reliability.
• Integrating security into workflows through automation and best practices.
4️⃣ The Controversy Around the Role:
• Is the title "DevOps Engineer" missing the point of what DevOps was meant to be?
• Why some industry experts believe DevOps should be a team-wide responsibility, not a specialized role.
• The risk of companies using the DevOps Engineer as a "quick fix" instead of adopting true DevOps culture.
5️⃣ Pros and Cons of the DevOps Engineer Role:
• Pros: Versatility, end-to-end responsibility, and the ability to bridge software and infrastructure.
• Cons: Risk of burnout, overwhelming expectations, and potential dilution of the DevOps philosophy.
6️⃣ Alternatives to the DevOps Engineer Role:
• How companies like Netflix and Google adopt a holistic DevOps culture with roles like Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) and automation specialists.
• Why embedding DevOps practices across all teams might be the future of the industry.
🚀 Key Takeaways:
• DevOps isn’t just about tools or job titles-it’s a mindset focused on collaboration, automation, and continuous improvement.
• While the DevOps Engineer role plays a critical part in many organizations, it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution.
• If you’re aiming to become a DevOps Engineer, focus on building technical skills while also understanding the cultural principles behind DevOps.

Hi Rahul,
I have gone through all your playlists, including Ansible, Terraform, and AWS, to prepare for interviews. These videos helped me a lot, and I wanted to express my gratitude. I searched for your email ID but couldn’t find it. I am so happy to share that I have received three offers. My previous package was 3 LPA, and now it has increased to 14 LPA.
Once again thank you so much rahul

Excellent Rahul, Brilliant explanation, Thank you ...from Bhopal
Very helpful....It helps to grasp the whole DevOps in a nutshell.
Thanks for the stopping by
These days, many bangalore based companies started hiring SDEs for cloud and K8s roles. What's your take on this? What's the future of Devops Engineers if developers take-up Devops responsibilities?
A developer unknowingly does perform the duties of devops by contributing to deployment, pipelines etc.. so it will always be that developer will transition into devops
Nice video thanks, docker containerisation, orchestration, auto scaling like aws ecs tasks, alerts including cpu, memory utilisation , webhook..can be considered
Sure I will do my best
Such amazing, crisp and to the point overview.
Glad to hear the +ve feedback
Nice video bro, keep doing more videos. Hope Very soon you will reach 1L subscribers 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Hi Rahul...Thanks for sharing information
You are welcome
Your explanation is the best
We've some queries like Devops future how many years but every day new technologies comming but basics is more important
Could you assist these
Technology are just a wrapper on topic of the basics so you should always focus on basic first rather then only worshiping single technology
Nice information keep it up
devops has lot of critical deployment cycles and code configurations is difficult to maintain
hi rahul did u make any demos on Aws pinpoint
Not yet
Yeah it is that is devops roles are always advisable to be taken later once you have decent experience
Hii sir in last two days I completed AWS course if any job for update for fresher please make a video
I will try my best
have you also attended the aws re:invent program for aws cloud practitioner
Thank you for making this video. You looks like Sundar Pichai 😊
