I think when the tanks shoot it gives vision and that is why they priortize the tanks area. ALso I know these are mostly vods, but burrowing lings is useful for making control groups. As burrowed/ unburrowed lings are considered different units when double clicking for 12 at a time.
When I was a kid, I'd burrow all my lings on one spot. You see, a burrowed Ling in a considered a different unit than an unburrowed ling. So I would: double click > unburrow > attack move > repeat, to send a full 360 lings at my opponent all at once.
The game unlocks upgrades as you unlock the normal tech requirements for them. You unlock +2 and +3 on the same mission for Terran because both are behind the science facility. You unlock +2 early here because you unlock lair tech early. When you get your first hive tech is when you get +3.
The biggest slog will be all of the ZvZ in Episode 6 where the enemy has guardians. Outranges spores, kills lings in 2 shots, kills drones in 2 shots so you can't even sneak up underneath them.
16:45 Ephemeral: short-lived, transitory, living only one day. Taking out the enemy's production capacity does, in fact, make their units ephemeral: being able to produce tanks becomes a transitory state between game start and eventual ignominious defeat at the hands of hundreds of spiny insectile doggos, by which point siege tanks will be nothing but a fading memory.
I love the content you make where you don't have to feel like you have to perform perfectly or struggle against really tough tides, and I know you've got a lot of similar sentiments after Brutal+ but I just wanna reinforce that a lot of people here prefer you playing and having fun instead of doing something technically impressive but without being able to commentate anything. Sorry if this series gets way less views because it's Sc1 >_>
The tanks not having upgrades did a lot here, having at least +1 carapace prevents lings from being one shot by +0 tanks. Unfortunately, +1 tanks always one shot lings, so that could pose a bit of a problem in the BW missions (only one more vT macro mission in vanilla SC1, so it shouldn't matter too much.)
The calculus of StarCraft: For every defensive line that doesn't involve air units, there is an amount of zergling which can overwhelm said defensive line.
I remember doing this mission zergling only a couple of years ago, and I remember throwing like 160 supply of zerglings up at the top most base and just *not* penetrating. (Only 10 minutes into the video when I type this :D)
I like the more natural placement of resources in the campaigns. I think it more silly for them to be always in this perfect placements everywhere instead.
Yeah, this is the kind of bloodbath that I've expected. I remember this as the mission in which you mass mutas and the amount of tanks is pretty hillarious
I love these low-effort thumbnails. It might have to do with me loving all your content, but these thumbnails are the ones getting a shoutout right now
Good content. Yesterday I played terran campaign mission 5 (the one you used barracks instead of dropships in marines only) and barely managed to reach 60 APM, so seeing you casually reaching above 150 is insane :)
The lings were going to the wrong ramp because on their way to the CORRECT one, the tanks there on the ridge were hitting them and drawing agro since they were on attack-move command. Oh Starcraft 1.
16:00 "That's not where I told you to go" Well it actually kinda is, bc you attack-commanded the lings up to the top-right, and when a unit is on an attack command, they will take detours to fight anything they encounter on the way, whether that "encounter" consist of an enemy coming into their own fighting range or, as in this case, the enemy attacks them. So since all the tanks are firing on the lings, the tanks become the target of the lings' aggro on their attack command, so really what you meant to do there was move-command the lings to the top-right (which would come with its own downside that the lings will ignore absolutely everything in their way, even enemies that they can actually engage with, so your only options in a case like this are to attack-command and have all your lings end up getting distracted and running into the meat grinder, move-command and run the risk of your lings encountering firebats or something that they lack the mental capacity to deal with because move command, or micro your units through the meat grinder, which is probably the worst option of all because zergling).
Haven't seen the video yet but I bet Grant will have to take the third base that is in the enemy base just to feed his ling army. The mineral patches on the third mission are kinda far from infinite.
I know it's probably not worth the money for what you're doing, but when I played Starcraft 1 I'd always use Burrow to make control groups. Select 12, assign hotkey, burrow, double click to get 12 more, burrow, repeat
Also I was wondering, if you could find it would you ever do a starcraft one trick map? I know it had fancy weird bugs such as infinite cloaking zerglings. Some are hard to pull off though
Is it weird that I like the odd sawing noise the game makes when you click on an egg sometimes? Its just a satisfying noise. Like someone sawing through plastic.
Would it be more effective to bust terran defenses by just move commanding your zerglings to various areas in their base? Just so your zerglings don’t get stopped by each other at any chokes and then spread out to attack random things and drawing tank fire to cause friendly fire damage.
You can mix move command so that the lings get a better surround, since it takes a small fraction of a second to move past a target. The thing about using only move commands is random firebats getting a lot of extra shots
@@hiei49 I should’ve specified, I meant during the initial move-out. It’s specific to tank-heavy bases, which I’m sure he’ll have to deal with like once or twice more before the end so it’s whatever. XD SC1 is just hard to control.
Wouldn't be better do the challenge in mass recall because you don't have the issue of using 5 million control groups, also the enemies are stronger too so it wouldn't be to easy

Hi Grant. Your thumbnail is bad and you should feel bad. Enjoy your vacation (though it's probably over already). Take it easy and have fun creating new content!
You're just complaining about the bad pathing, instead of adjusting to it. Get your units into better pre-position before giving the mass attack moves, so this sort of "choke-points beneath siege tanks on cliffs" doesn't need to happen. No need to play worse than the AI ;P

This is great I love you doing this Carpenter style :) The no build mission at mission 4 is going to be crazy hard. you only get like 4 lings.

I was inspired to try this... I forsee a mission that cannot be done zerglings only. When you need to kill the feral zerg.
SC1 zerglings look like the human arms and it's so bizarre

So what's the plan if the enemy lifts off a CC at any point?
they never do. I have never seen that happening in any mission.
I have to admit that i took that top right base intentionally, but I was doing this same challenge

Kinda wonder how you'll do the Culling with Zerglings when you start with none and have to destroy and build a new base
