This song is so heartwarming, and in a lot of ways it sums up what "Steven Universe" was all about.
All of the Crystal Gems were misfits in some way or another. Steven was a half-human hybrid. Amethyst was short and "overcooked" for her gem type. Pearl was a servant who trained herself to become a warrior. And Garnet was a fusion between two types of gems who loved each other. All of them would be considered defective freaks by Homeworld's standards, but they rejected Homeworld's messed-up ways of doing things and constantly proved they had their own set of strengths.
Earlier in this episode, Steven being half-human is what allowed him to save his family, and in this song, Garnet kicks Jasper's backside with the strength of Ruby and Sapphire's relationship, and it's beautiful.

Rebecca Sugar is a genius. They wrote an incredibly catchy song with lyrics that fit within the context of the episode, but also become an allegory for same-sex relationships and homophobia.
They're truly one of the best cartoon writers in the world.
I also like how the song explains what fusions are. "I am even more than the two of them. Everything they care about is what I am. I am their fury. I am their patience. I am a conversation." Those lyrics are a perfect encapsulation of what a fusion is exactly.

This is my favourite song in the entire Steven Universe soundtrack. It's inspirational, powerful, and really stunning musically. It reminds me that I'm stronger than anything that stands in my way, and no matter what, I can persevere.
