I liked the "Soap" moniker specifically because it was unorthodox for the setting, but made sense if you thought about it "Soap" being the nick name of a "Wash out" who failed his first time trying to join the SAS. It wasn't even heavily hinted at in the story or anything, it was just an optional bit of headcanon that fleshed out an inherently voiceless and faceless protag.
The remastered version of the first _Modern Warfare_ was one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. It was a nostalgia bomb because I remembered almost everything about it, but seeing everything in a new light with more realistic gameplays mechanics and higher-quality textures made it feel brand new. For anyone who hasn't played _Modern Warfare Remastered,_ I strongly recommend it. Most people I've talked to hate _Ghosts,_ but I don't mind it. It's by no means one of my favorite _Call of Duty_ games, but it's still memorable and enjoyable for me. Yes, the "covert-special-operations-team" trope is done to death (pun intended), but I still think the individual levels are fun, especially the space mission. I actually like _Ghosts_ more than _Modern Warfare 2_ and _Modern Warfare 3._
Don't you think its abit unfair for people to hate COD because other publishers or devs try to copy it and for critics to entertain that view? COD became popular because it originally broke away from what the crowd was doing. There's nothing stopping other devs from trying to come up with their own ideas. The games should be judged on their own merits.
Except the success of COD means other devs are presured to copy it. There are games like Turok, Hitma Absolution etc that were changed drastically as a result
Just stumbled upon this 7 years later and this video really holds up well! I feel like you’d have refreshing takes on the newer releases too. Would love to see you return from your hiatus. Nonetheless, your old videos are gems and deserve more recognition!
I really like how you analyze everything instead of simply jumping on the "Infinite Warfare sucks" train. It's refreshing to see everything from your kind of perspective. Also, have you ever considered making playthrough type videos, or something similar to them?
It's been tempting, and I have toyed around with the idea, but the only way I'd be able to do this is with a buddy of mine because I work best from a script or with a friend. Playthroughs normally rely on an individual's personality, and I don't find myself that interesting :p
I loved the entirety of the Modern Warfare trilogy Modern Warfare 3 well maybe not being as good was almost just as good as the other two in terms of story
Good analysis and little retrospective from the point of view of a fan. I am similar in what I have enjoyed out of CoD. Though in addition to the single player I liked the co-op spec ops. I remember my biggest qualm with the "No Russian" mission was why you just didn't shoot Makarov. As far as you knew, he was the head of the snake. No reason a soldier wouldn't just sacrifice his life and just take the dude out right then and there.
personally i think it was after MW3 where it went to shit i mean ghosts was only good for a cool story then they attempted to bring it back with advanced warfare which was good only for the multiplayer character customisation they can't put out a good title now and i feel sorry for them because they had some nice title before black ops
I feel Advanced Warfare actually had a good story and mechancis that improved on the formula. That should have been the new standard if players didn't have nostalgia goggles
never got beyond the ship level (or the one after that) of COD4. it felt like a _"do what the game wants you to do"_ instead of _"here, go and kill. how you do that is you choice"_ ... and now you tell me COD4 is a highlight of the series and things got even worse?
I played CoD originally for the campaign. Waaaaaay back when the first demo was released for the PC for the very first game. It really blew its competition (Medal of Honor) out of the water but even from the very start it took more inspiration from war cinema than history. Battlefield never had a campaign, though? I mean, I don't remember one in 1942 or Vietnam and I don't remember one in B2 - but I could be wrong I only played Project Reality for the most part.
Great analysis. Always excited to see one of your videos come out. Personally I haven't bought any of the games after the MW trilogy, though I have played through all of them thanks to friends. MW2 to this day is still one of my all-time favorite games, but Infinity Ward's games from MW3 forward felt hollow, and something about Treyarch's design philosophy (possibly that same absurdity you seem to enjoy) has always grated my nerves. Considering how much I loved Titanfall despite its various flaws, I think the core of the crew behind the gameplay and design I loved so much is probably among those that left for Respawn. Here's hoping Titanfall 2 continues that trend and fixes some of the issues from the first.
The game is above average like when you go over to a friends house that is only a casual and only has sports games and a call of duty game you would choose call of duty
"...doing something heroic to bring someone to justice..." Welp, at least Asad had WMD's. That said, why couldn't they just make the airport shooters wear balaclavas or something? The bit about the security cams is spot on, it makes no goddamn sense and it shows how much more infantile the series would become. I was a major fanboy of Call of Duty - until MW3 - I honestly cannot begin to recollect in my memory where MW2 begins and MW3 ends. It just seemed like the same game to me and an underwhelming one at that.
Honestly, I believe game industry executives are to blame. Try watching Jimquisiton: Game executives are fucking idiots. It gives examples of things they thought would be popular and not. Such as EA's CEO thinking a WWI setting wouldn't sell, or Square Enix thinking having a female lead in Life is Strange is a terrible idea.
I'd like to think shareholders are more to blame, since the CEO has to answer to them otherwise they'll lose their job. Look at John Riccitiello, he's now the CEO of Unity Technologies and the company has been very user friendly for the past two years.
Can you really blame the CoD creators for the other companies trying to copy them to grab a portion of their audiences? Isn't that like saying for exemple, that the Deadpool movie is to be blamed for any other super hero movie that tries to be edgy and fail?
The last COD campaign I actually finished was Ghosts. I think Ghosts just ruined cod campaigns for me. I've just become uninterested. I do play BO3 multiplayer and go back to some of the older CODS multiplayer from time to time. I'm not really interested in playing Infinite Warfare campaign or multiplayer though.
"We destroy our enemies when we make friends with them." This line uttered in MW3 is one of the most cringe inducing and poorly written bits of dialog I have ever heard in a game. I had to bring it up, haha Just seeing it in the subtitles brought back this wave of disgust (Also, great video!)
Lol???? the hate started with the Advanced movement system.... even Ghosts, which was hated tremendously, was still purchased and play frequently. The decline started with COD Advanced Warfare. After 3 years of the same bullshit, we finally said no more. But until then, there were a few haters here and there, but COD was still loved and played by millions.
Why would you want to revisit one of the most destructive video games of all time? No really. As soon as Call of Duty hit the shelves alongside Uncharted, the industry started dying.
I have played spec ops' Find the Girl, but why keep something essential locked behind optional content? I'm all for stories being in optional content, but if it's essential then it rubs me the wrong way.
The nuclear capabilities of weapons has grown a lot in the last fifty years, so we don't have any real basis since only two weapons, the first of it's kind, were dropped.
I cant remember ONE name of either advanced warfare or black ops 3 compaigns. I remember most from all the others also black ops 3 campaign is THE WORST game I have ever experienced.
this was hot
like you

22:20 But thats exactly what I want from CoD...
Fantastic video. You deserve way more subscribers. At the very least, you've earned one more :)
who cares
Apparently you do lol

World at War and Black Ops 1 are amazing.
I loved the entirety of the Modern Warfare trilogy Modern Warfare 3 well maybe not being as good was almost just as good as the other two in terms of story

Who played COD or BATTLEFIELD for its campaign?
✋

Good video. Glad to see passionate players making videos about Call of Duty...especially as long as 30 minutes. (Don't worry I watched all of it)
Great analysis. Always excited to see one of your videos come out.

Just looked up who wrote it. It's the same guy behind Million Dollar Baby, Casino Royale, and wrote and directed Crash...fuck me what happened!??
You have gotta be fucking joking hahahaha
This was so awesome
Oh lawd. Half an hour of your sweet sweet voice dissecting one of the most divisive video game franchises ever? Aw yiss.
Some good shit this. Would've loved to hear an analysis on the Black Ops games as well.
Lol???? the hate started with the Advanced movement system.... even Ghosts, which was hated tremendously, was still purchased and play frequently. The decline started with COD Advanced Warfare. Honestly. Most of the community are no better then Activision. Giving AW shit yet Sledgehammer actually innovated
*people give
great video m8
17:23
Nice ost you got there.
I really enjoy your analysis and was wondering if you are going to do similar analysis on cod aw and blops3
Why would you want to revisit one of the most destructive video games of all time?
No really. As soon as Call of Duty hit the shelves alongside Uncharted, the industry started dying.
My real name is Hudson
Storm the Burger King!
Ghosts was awsome
if u play spec ops u will know how the president's daughter got to berlin
I have played spec ops' Find the Girl, but why keep something essential locked behind optional content? I'm all for stories being in optional content, but if it's essential then it rubs me the wrong way.
Good video
How could you say surviving a nuke is impossible when there a still survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki ????
The nuclear capabilities of weapons has grown a lot in the last fifty years, so we don't have any real basis since only two weapons, the first of it's kind, were dropped.
+LHudson well u still can't say it's impossible to survive. It's not a big issue just saying
I have cod 2
You sound like William from The Inbetweeners :P
I get that a lot, cheers :p
Don't hack me
I cant remember ONE name of either advanced warfare or black ops 3 compaigns. I remember most from all the others also black ops 3 campaign is THE WORST game I have ever experienced.
:'( so sad
Hard to find a reasonably priced CoD 2.. Hahahahahahah lmao lol I found a like new set on amazon.com for 5 bucks
I was following you up until the point where you said Black Ops 3 was good
It's a silly game, but it is aware that it is silly and that matters a lot to jaded creeps like me :p
