Igor Levit has played that for 16 hours, repeated it 840 times ...

Powerful! I just saw his interview on 60 Minutes, 1/3/21, he's so in touch with his music reaching the human soul during this COVID-19 Pandemic.

I admire his commitment to the piece, and the earnesty he brings towards it. Satie, you bastard! Bringing people to actually perform the "Vexations", together with conceiving it in the first place (and thus paving the path to minimalism), is what turns this into a real piece of art.

Satie would roll on floor laughing about the fact that someone took one of his weird jokes serious.

Last year on this, Satie's birthday, I heard this for many hours (I didn't listen straight through), but with many different players, pianos. Perhaps I'll listen to Levit's long version sometime.

I think Satie might of been having a sly smirk and chuckle over this one, as well as flipping the bird at the overblown and very lengthy Wagnerian music popular at the time!

I think this piece is designed to make the walls go askew, to bring a glimmer of hope, and then turn it into wretched agony, at which time, the walls again begin to twist...

A less minimalistic comment now: Caitlin Horrocks must be delighted to see and listen to the inventive performance of Vexations of Satie by Igor Levit. And Samuel Beckett would have been thrilled (or I should be more careful here and say, moved) had he a chance to see the theatre and music of Levit's take on the Vexations of Satie.

It sounds a little like a Daliesque Andalusian dog-thing… those films he made with Luis Buñuel? Isn't everybody paranoid enough already?

I'm thinking "but why?" I'm thinking "OMG all those trees cut down for the paper that's wasted here!" I'm thinking "why not learn a new skill (or a new piano sonata?) during those 16 hours instead of driving oneself crazy with this - well - pretty boring piece" .... I shake my head.... I'm thinking "has everyone gone mad (reading the positive reviews) or is it just me who wonders "but why?" - I don't mean to be disrespectful. I am just stating that - in my opinion - this is (was) a pure waste of time. Time that is very limited on this planet. (I do have to admit that I WOULD listen to J.S.Bach's Chaconne for solo violin over and over.... :-))

Bem, ouça um CD de "Well-Tempered Clavier" arranhado, e já o tem: não seja exigente e não incomode ninguém.
Ou tente fazer você mesmo, no piano.
