As another has noted older Dauphines had the engine fresh air intake in the trunk up front which ran to the back. The air filter stayed clean longer especially in dusty areas because most of it would settle out before it got to the intake. The engine fan and water pump are driven off of the camshaft which extends beyond the engine case at the radiator end just for this purpose. If you are having excess play the key way on the pulley could be worn, or the camshaft drive could be worn. Not something that should be ignored. Just a heads up. You've made a lot of great progress on this car!
I had a couple of Dauphines any years ago and the bodies were shot and ended up using the engine as a power source. A great little engine. If my memory is correct, the air cleaner on mine was an oil bath cleaner with a snout, which could easily have been pointed forward as you suggested. Thanks for all your content, I love it.
Mark, in common with the 2CV that has multiple joints in the exhaust system; the usual fix is to use fibreglass ribbon (exhaust wrap) smeared in sealing paste and then wrapped around the joint before putting on the clamp. It will last a lot longer than just applying paste on its own.
I remember as a kid how heavily Renault promoted the Dauphine in the early 1960s and then seemingly disappeared from the automotive landscape. Still an interesting car...........so French. Nice video.
Great Video! Nice french car! The wheels-nuts look like the same on my Citroën Dyane 1967 (luxury 2CV). GREAT that you have even since 1966 disc brakes (like the super DS19 of 1955) Wow! But drum brakes are also fine if good adjusted (my Dyane). Super that you found the problem with the belt tightener. Yes, sometimes some "silly" things can take you some days. I had in 2007 a normal and super (combined) 8mm movie projector (Heurtier - wonderful machine) for an old family friend. The image jittered and it made me mad to find the problem. Finally it was the gripper that went to far into the perfo.hole on the film. There was a set screw, but it was sufficient to "bend"push slighly the plate where the set-screw was fixed with the thumb. Took me 3 days (= 15 hours) but also with some cleaning and regreasing. Thank you for the great videos - keep up the good work! Cordial greetings from a watchmaker! Géréon
Dauphines have a special attraction to me, I grew up in the country and someone had abandoned a light blue Dauphine at the end of our road where it met the bayou, played in it when I was little and imagined it was mine
There seems to be a consistent theme with most of your cars where you get them looking really nice and then you open the door to see an unfinished interior.. I dont know how you can stand it.. it would drive me nuts..
PS: If the cooling work, perhaps you can let the inlet of the carb. like it is. Finally a bit heat helps the carb. esp. in winter times. Okay, I know not so relevant for a historic car. And to have some little white stuff on the battery connectors are "normal". I use vaseline as protection. On the + plus more common than on the - minus pole.
Why are you so enthralled with a Renault when a similar FIAT 850 spider is so much higher tech and reliable and fun to drive, there were so many more sold here in the USA.
Many Dauphines had a tall round oil bath air cleaner about where your expansion tank is. It was connected to the carb with a hose the same size as the carb intake. Another hose brought fresh air in from the front side of the firewall, the area behind the back seat.
4 wheel disc brakes and 3 lug nuts? I'd be aftaid the wheel would brake off on a hard stop. You know, the Yugo had 3 lugs per wheel. And the wheels broke off.

I learned to drive stick in my grandfather’s Dauphine. Those backdoors were so small.

Stella is so cute! Star of show.
yes xD
Almost everyone is here to see Stella the Shop Dog...the two strokes are just a bonus🤣🤣
She should be fine on the trip as long as you don't _Renault_ of gas
I never knew about this car until you showed it here, really didn't like it at first but I think this weird French machine is growing on me.....
Had a R12 and it was a blast
Well done, nice Dauphine

I had a 61 Gordini when I was a teen. It had a stock cool air tube for the carb that ran all the way to the front hood. I'm a 73 year old fart know.
What are the chances of seeing a Singer and a Dauphine side by side. Is the valve cover a Gordini part?
Poor Stella! What a heart breaker, but very adaptable too. Nice work!
I like that Renault dolphin I see now the older ones had a hub & rim
That "play" in there was bobbling the whole tensioner/pulley. It sure looks rickety. Be careful.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the carb air intake!

Never had a fan blade so close the radiator!
Ah la Dauphine!
Electric fan with a switch? Still in 6v?
Drives better with 2 bags of sands in the belly.

Wouldn't inlet air be cooler direct from a side port than the radiator?
Yes, but I think it is in front of the shroud
Oh god, socks and slips, what are you, 15 years old?
Would it not make sense to heat wrap the exhaust manifold?
I am working on a 1969 Subaru 360 van and the wiring is messed up I wonder if you have a wiring diagram for the charging system?
