I loved the Seth Troxler podcast - he was so freespirited, a huge charachter, cool, he natrually got big by chance and talent combined his love for music/DJing, a true storyteller. It made me really think about then vs now. Maybe I am showing my age (probably actually younger than Seth Troxler and Josh Baker lol) but I find this episode showed how making it is such a robotic process now and we lose some of the 'rockstars' (which Seth talked about last episode) in the process. Talking about business models, breaking America/stopping playing UK places, doing fitness stuff to resonate with followers, marketting strategy, reading books on how to become big - just seems so forced, more of a business now and this stuff is so so far from what the essense of dance music is about IMO. Can you imagine a Juan Atkins or someone talking about how to get more followers and likes and attenion through a brand ? lol. It is almost as if the way to make it now is to pay for sponsors, pay for fake followers (they all do it), tap in to young market where everyone films and spreads content, create instagram hooks, have your own camerman, wear certain clothes that attract attention etc. Just seems so fake to me and thhis is sort how pop starts are made and I think the next steps will be DJs will prob only be good looking girls and guys and seen as more of a Brand. Interesting podcast but made me think it is more about money than music now.
Interesting and well considered take! I would have loved to of experienced the come up in the era Seth came from. What id say here though is it feels your questioning my love and dedication to the game. I’ve worked tirelessly on my craft for the last 13 years and reckon I’ve worked harder than most. Social media is not just an outlet for music either. I post fitness stuff etc because I enjoy it. I also run multiple businesses. It’s not just about being a Dj.
@@joshbakermusic no questioning your work ethic and route to where you are. Hard work is always admirable and anyone who has released tunes works tirelessly on their craft. Just different times but there is no denying there was a lot of business chat in this podcast which made me think about how business orientated the underground dance scene is now and how it is more about increasing followers and brand Times are changing of course but I feel it has lost its sparkle a bit
@@nB90GGF respect and yeah I don’t disagree it’s lost some of its sparkle but I don’t think it’s too different to most things in life. We’ll probably look at the situation now in 20 years and refer to this as the good times.
I can tell you watched both pods top to bottom and can really see where you are coming from. IMO in every artistic category social media and the internet has changed everything. I am very analytical person when it comes to content.. it def sounds like a robotic process when I talk about it because I fucking love it but my content isn’t any so robotic it’s 100% raw (if that makes sense) 🤣.. I think in todays world where competition is so much bigger with the ability to release and promote music is seamless.. building more of that presence online and having other business the way Josh does is fucking genius. From face value I can see why you may think it takes away from the essence of music and I can also see it from my side. But in the end thanks for your support on the pod legend🍻
Yeah it's good to see. Having said rhat... He was absolutely off his head on Tussi or something similar when I saw him at space after his EastEnderz set 🤣🤣
Yeeee
Who’s that b2b tho 👀
