Thanks!
I find that I do a hybrid: move head and arm a little each. Definitely need to practice more, though!
Gotta say I love this channel with these master classes. It significantly improve my techniques. Everything seems to be basic, but it’s the foundation to success. Great video !
*This guy has good intentions, I'm sure he cares about self defense, but I don't think this guy has ever actually been in a gunfight. If you try these techniques, YOU WILL DIE. There is much more to retention shooting than this. If you want to know retention shooting methods that are actually realistic, lookup Craig Douglas's retention shooting on UA-cam.*
Was taught this at the United States Indian Police Academy. Wasn’t explained to us this in depth, but I know how effective it is. Thanks for making this video. It has refined my technique and made me more effective!

@@Coffee1776still a lot to learn from these old guys, but Hackathorn is more of a competitive shooter for sure. Just take what works and put it in your toolbox, throw out the rest. I love Craig Douglas too, good recommendation 👍
Learning a lot from these vids, thank you, good stuff!!!

Practice a technique called "You Control Time & Space". You can move while seeing/deciding/drawingweapon. Give yourself space.
Give yourself time. Don't be a flatfoot if you can help it.
And remember to say "Yo homie" before you fire.
IS THAT MY BRIEFCASE???
Especially if they’re from West Virginia or Montana
I always appreciate Bill, Mas and your experience/ advise but I was wondering why Uniformed LEO’s do not use a belt pistol retention lanyard/system? I can see con for concealed and would not advocate it, but for uniformed I could see advantages of not losing a weapon when grappling.
Shooting from retention is a must at very close range. One thing to add might be that porting and compensated pistols aren't the best for EDC for the possibility of stippling your own face from the position.
Thanks for all of your great classes Ken!

Is it safe to use the 'Retention Shooting Drill' with a revolver? Just wondering.🤔
I have been doing it wrong, thank you for setting me straight.
I'd consider not putting your support hand palm against your chest, have your palm outwards but on you sternum so strikes are at the ready
Thank you for good info, best regards.
Kudos to you, Mr. Ken nice information crack shot
Great presentation. Thank you Ken.
Well the loss of blood from a shot to the groin will kill in about 45 seconds.
Thank you, Ken and Bill.
I have a related question: In considering “adequate” defensive aiming at close ranges (
Hector Grant Taylor.
Ken is a machine!

Oh yeah 👍
Wise. Thank you

If blood loss is the goal...the AAA is an excellent shot.
Thank you sir. Beautiful pistol.
Although Ken is now retired, it's great to see that he's still bringing his knowledge and training drills to the masses via digital platform.
Wish he made a DVD with all his drills!
Good stuff!

sorry but too much twisting. simply draw gun, pin arm to hip, fire where looking, lean back a bit for elevation. time is of the essence, and a little practice will teach you.--courtesy Ed McGivern
KEN. .....MAYBE KNOWS GUNS ... BUT HIS OLD WHITE GUY POLITICS MAKES HIM LOOK STUPID .... HE NEEDS TO STAY OUTTA THAT TOPIC
Perfect video Ken. Congrats.
Great tips. Thanks Ken.

Thanks for sharing.
Great video sir!
Mike Horne and Mike Harries had a better drill
Another tacticool skill unlikely to be used in real combat. Creating space like moving backwards or side stepping
is more practical.
This technique was perfected by Fairbairn & Sykes during WW2, it is still taught today because it works.
Yes, moving backwards is always a great idea 🤔 Sometimes you dont have time to step offline or seek cover. This is a valuable technique widely utilized throughout the world. Once you realize how easily you can be disarmed at close range, you will understand the value of retention shooting.
Why must people try to out expert the experts? LOL Hey Joe - seen a lot of urban combat? This technique in invaluable. When your back is against the wall, and two thugs are closing in on you - I wonder how you "create space?" Learning to do it ALL is key.
Most people have no clue that human PIEV time (perceive/think/feel/react) to the unexpected) ranges 1.5 to 2.5 seconds, longer if distracted, so if someone decides to charge you from 10ft or less, there’s a very good chance you might not even get to your weapon, let alone get a round off. So as he says, you may have to push or hold off your assailant with the free hand to make room for your hole puncher.
