How much gold did we get with this .. MAGNET!?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 січ 2023
- A large gold mining operation in the Quesnel area of British Columbia, run by my buddy Tyler, uses a magnet in their clean up sluice to prevent the magnetic black sands from plugging the sluice. Tyler gave me a sample of these black sands removed with the magnet to see how much gold got caught up with the black sands. Check out these results.
And as a side note, Tyler usually goes through these black sands to recover the gold. It is not lost. And NO! gold is not magnetic.

Sunday with Dan!
This black sand is exceptionally rich !!! Great for this demonstration !!! But no dought , this machine is a must have , for all sand separators, out of the rifles !!! 5 gallon bucket weighs about 100 lbs , black sand !!! The wheel separator works well too !!!
I love all of the equipment explanations you’ve done over the years. I know a helluva lot more about mining, panning, and fine gold reclamation because of you, pal. Keep up the amazing work, Dan. 🙂👍
Glad you like them!
Snap.. And I live in the uk where ur never guna find any gold 😂
@@johnheckles8239 , that's not true. You just have to go to a jewelry store to get some. :P
Don't feel alone. I live in Florida, and so live in an area with no natural gold, too.
@@tinamathews3379 yeah but look on the bright side ....that's still far preferable than moving to modern day California lol
@@tinamathews3379 yeah.. But.. You live in Florida.. So can drown your tears in sunshine.. We only get that for 1 month per year 😂😒😔 lol
Just panned 2 gem and gold and one Christmas pay dirt bags. Some were sick for Christmas so we just got around to it. So much fun finding that golden smile and all the gemmy treasures!
Well done, you're re-invented the CleanGold sluice system.
That one uses a line of magnets to trap black sand, which then is used to trap gold. It does this astonishingly well, even better than the old mercury amalgamation method and is being touted as a way to stop people using mercury quite so much.
Actually, this device is a much scaled down replica of the electro-magnetic ore separator used in iron mining since before 1900. Exact same concept of alternating polarity magnets in the core of a spinning drum. Of course, in this case, the prize is in what was "waste" in the ore separator.
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota
good morning
3d printing adds a lot of possibilities to prospecting. I hope to see more of it!
I love seeing the snow. I miss seeing snow in the winter. I haven't been where it snowed since 2004. I enjoy learning so much from you. Thanks!
Great video, Dan! Thanks for doing what you do✌️
Another great video, Dan! Congratulations again on reaching 1,000,000 subscribers! You deserve it! 👏
Thank you very much!
@Dan Hurd you are very welcome!
You're the man Dan. Love everything you do. This gold panning journey ive been on is 100% because of you. I have so much fun, I just wanted to thanks you. And congrats on a mill 👍
That is awesome! and Thanks
I’m a big fan of your videos. I love to see a video on how you do your research in finding gold or even other precious gems in BC. Thanks for the videos take care.
i joined this channel a little while ago and it has been nothing but amazing and relaxing to watch please keep up the great work!
we have tons of black sand here but not much gold. this machine will be a great addition to our gold equipment. making clean up a lot faster.
That's a neat machine Dan. Thanks for the demonstration.
Thank you for your videos I’ve been doing metal detecting for years now and I’ve recently moved to Scotland where there is hundreds of rivers by watching your videos I’ve decided to take up gold panning thanks for the tips 😊
Thanks Dan from NSW Australia, really interesting piece, keep them coming.
Watching you do that dry mag separator that is just like so cool I built one it's not that efficient but that original video inspired me
Good video Dan, thanks for the useful information. Now I know a little bit more about black sands
Hello Dan,
I have yet to find one of your videos that is not interesting to watch, Thank you.
I grew up near the San Bernardino mountains of southern Calif.
Those Mts. have a fair number of gold deposits which have been claimed since the mid 1870's.
There are still a few mountain streams where people can go to pan for gold.
I took my kids up there one time in the 1970's.
showed them how and we actually found little tiny nuggets rather than flakes.
What a fun time we had.
The Kids are grown now.
Some of them followed me to Kansas where the gold here is in the form of hard red winter wheat.
I found your channel many months ago and through you found Brad at MBMM.
I love watching him as he takes the gold from the mines through the crushers, into the smelters and finally ending with the buttons.
Yesterday I found Andy working a claim that you helped him with.
It had to be an older video as your beard was shorter and well manicured.
Gold prospecting has always held some interest for me.
I thank you and the folks you mingle with to bring us the great videos.
I'm wondering if it'd be possible to add another hopper to that with a narrower opening which maybe taps into the motor to shake it so you don't have to constantly slowly feed small scoop after small scoop..
My friend jesse who's been mining gold for over 40 years told me that in Blackhawk Colorado they have found 13 different colored peices of gold.
Coulter Is awsome. Makes cool products. Right on. Great video
Suggestion - Re some of the output spilling on the table. Why not use quart jars and adjust height of top of jar up a bit so the blue neck outputs are farther in each jar. It seems like they would have less chance of bouncing out on their way to bottom of jar. You could also use a canning ring to hold a paper coffee filter around top of jar with center area cut out. In other words, just using the paper like an additional funnel for anything that tried to bounce.
Thank you for the videos! It gives me joy seeing the gold shinnies and knowing that winter won't last forever!
Glad you enjoy it!
That tool is pretty amazing and you do a great job explaining Thanks for sharing
Dan,
Thank you, a great adventure.
Happy New Year to the Hurd Clan!
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Interesting video and how the gold gets caught up in the magnetic material and I have previously seen the minimagnet machine and it sure does a great job of seperating both cheers Dan.
Wow. 3.6 grams!!!! That is impressive. Thanks for the video!! I guess there is plenty to do even in the winter when the river is too snowed in. Have a great day, happy new year and HUGS
I like this video I always watch the video and this is the 2nd video with the same tool, it always provides useful knowledge. the tools shown are really advanced and very practical. i love you Dan Hurd Keep spirit
Great job all around fam. Keep on having fun getting that au and living the dream. Gold Squad Out!!!
Love your energy Sir. Keep doing what you are passionate about.
I appreciate that

Been following you a long time Dan. Very interesting stuff you put up on your videos.
Another great video Dan, you get to work in some stunning locations.
Thanks 👍
The part you explain different materials under microscope is very valuable.
Thank you
Please include other sample occasionally
Happy new year brother, stay golden.
Great explanation on things, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Congratulations Dan👍👋
Hi Dan! Great news! I *DID* enjoy this video. You also earned my subscription a long time ago. Great to see you back on the GOO-OH-OH-OH-OOOLD!!!!
Well done dan while we sweat 😓 in the heat of the Australian summer you’re freezing over in bc glad you saved videos for us!
Never boring at your house Dan! Neat gadget! 🤩 Thanks for another lesson! 😁

every time Dan I watch a video of yours I learn something thanks DanThank you
My bunny of more than 3 years died very prematurely, at the 5th of january. Your videos helped me alot, and i just want to say thank you
I never knew there was such a machine! Awesome
Beauty. Good day, eh! I'm Always glad to see another one of your great videos. This is some very good info for newbies like myself. Enjoy that beautiful snow in the Great White North. I wish we had more down here. Thanks again for this one.
Hello Dan, very good video, I finally made it to the Philippines but I have not done any panning here yet.Soon I will and show how I do.
Nice job Dan
i really like Tylers cleanup sluice he really knows how to build stuff.
Love my mining magnets tool .love the videos stay warm
I love when you use gadgets and devices like this, the gold drop, the gold hog etc! I'd love to see more videos like these!
More to come!
@@Danhurd what a fast response! I wasn't even finished with the video and you responded! Also, thanks for saying more is to come :)
Wow! You never cease to amaze me with everything you do! I can only imagine the work and planning that goes into EVERYTHING you do. I used a sheet of white paper with a magnet underneath it to separate the magnetic particles from the black sand and stuff I had saved. THAT was sooooo time-consuming. Found 2 or 3 micro fly poo flecks of gold in the maybe cup full i had to go thru. But I loved looking thru it. This looks way faster, lol
Thank you for sharing this.
Placing different sizes of flat washers in the chute outlet (before sorting unit) allows you to control the rate at which the machine takes in material, allowing for easier use.
Awesome video here Dan. Definitely a very educational video at home since you are snowed in. Lol. Haven't seen you using the black sands separator magnet. Lol
Good job Dan,
I appreciate your time Sir.
You bet
I just checked the math on the difference between pyrite and gold for their mass density. They are 19.3g per cc for gold, and a mere ~5g per cc for pyrite. With this knowledge it's quite easy to see how that tiny amount of pyrite doesn't effect the total in any significant way when Dealing with such a small amount.
Now, if you had a ton of mixed material like that than yeah, I would try to remove the pyrite.
It also depends on how clean you need the gold for the end result too. I mix this back into paydirt, so having some pyrite in there does not really matter.
Great video Dan keep'em coming bud. Stay safe and be well brother. 👊😎🤙🍻
Thanks! Will do!
Great video. Thanks Dan 🍻👍
Thanks
Thanks for the show !!!!
Our pleasure!
Congrats on 1 million subscribers
Much work for that gold…. But worth it!!!! I’m delighted you have that snow and cold!!!! I’m in Texas seventy degrees with Sun!!
I enjoy your teaching us!!! I Love your vids!!
Thank you 🤗
Great vid my friend
Loving your winter hat!
A bit of a late congratulations on 1 mil, but i love that your channel actually teaches cool stuff about geology and stuff, keep it up!
amazing Dan, as usual. I will be getting one of those mining magnets. thanks
Have fun!
That's a nice amount. Some actually redo the filtered stuff in the water for anything residue that might have slipped out of the pan the first time around.
Thanks for the video, loved it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this Dan.
Hey man, you deserve every ounce of success you've gained on this channel AND MORE. Love to watch :)
Thanks a ton!
@@Danhurd yeah, twice!
@@Danhurd And every Troy ounce too!!
Great video!
That would make some nice paydirt Dan for the seasoned panner.👍⚒️🏴
Freaking awesome. Love watching ur show. Always learn something while being entertained
Colter is local to me here in Idaho and makes great stuff!! Congrats on the 1M Dan!!!
i picked up a bunch of black sand off the beach with a magnet. grass will respond to a dressing off iron plus i experiment with making weights n stuff. there already is some iron in our garden soil at all levels- brought in or naturally but not black sand (rhode island coast). after 20 years messing with this stuff i learn there is actually gold in it. maybe in the summer ill check out the 30lbs or so i have in the garage or the tons of it 1/2 a mile away on the beach. sorry for using freedom units i left 🇬🇧 before they compltely went over to metric.
It’s fun to see the 1M behind your name sir. Congratulations 🎉
👋 hello Dan, moderators, and fellow viewers.
hello
i love to see you get the gold Dan! it makes me want to get out and pan haha. at least i also have "shop-prospecting" i can do, so winter wont stop us mua ha ha ha. 🤣
good cleanup and pan !
Yes it was!
I needed to see this video, because last year, I finally tackled some remaining (rusted) concentrates from a gold mining trip years ago, removed the magnetics and have been left with what now seems to be nothing but zillions of glittery, sparkly pyrite/mica specs. Very pretty, but "ugh!"😣
Yet, I'm still hesitant to throw it all out, because ultra-fine, micro flour gold floats too, even with Jet-Dry in the pan.
Guess, I'll have to use my Blue Bowl now - hopefully that will finally bring this process to an end.
Been watching you for quite a while now.
Ive found gold in the UK that has a rust stains on it straight out of a burn or stream. We aee that here without it being accidentally produced.
Let me see if I get it ... Nothing glitters like gold, but not all gold glitters. Ya' know, I'll be worried about this all day.
I can't wait for some warm weather!
Love the video as always!!! How long did it take to separate everything out before panning it?
Maybe 20 min, but that is because I was filming.
Hi Dan! Love the content and positive energy! Had a thought.. I’ve never panned gold, but watching you tap the pan to bring the gold to the top I wondered… would a small hand help vibrator accomplish that task faster instead of tapping the pan? Just a random thought
Thank you great video. Could there be gold stuck with the magnetic material or it's not possible? Like gold stuck in iron or magnetite.
Wow, that was impressive. I would have liked to see the shortened version of you sluicing and panning the magnetics. That would show what kind of loss ratio you have. I would expect it to be very small gold and not much of it.
THANKS DAN
Great video dam thanks for sharing.
Dan phone got the best of me lol
This is fun to watch. 😀
Boy, that sure looked like a lot of extra effort but you were able to recover some extra gold. Interesting to see how much gold one might lose by other heavy materials carrying or pushing it out. However, persistence paid off in gold. Great video.
It was oy an hour. And I was having fun playing in the shop rather than watching TV.
Love the beard and the positivity.
You should do a video where you just take pure gold flakes and run them through a water sluice to see how much gold goes through.
Congrats on 1M
Thanks
Winters got a grip on us down here In Colorado as well! Luckily I have a bag of Dan Hurds Christmas Pay Dirt still 🙏🙏
Nice!!
